 | | jessicafischerqueen: <tbon> I really like "Here There and Everywhere" and all the other songs I never heard before on <Revolver>. I agree with <Ohio> that "Some of the best Beatles stuff is never on the radio. Funny how much I like some of their simple, beautiful ballads." That said, I think this Macca track would be improved by losing the "Woos" on the backing vocal. It would be better with just Paul and his guitar I think. |

Jess & here's a song from me to you from another early Beatles tune. ; P http://youtu.be/yeSaUeSqn-Y |
|
| Oct-09-13 | | Travis Bickle: <jessicafischerqueen: Again, I had never played through all their studio records before, I'd just heard the radio hits. What a revelation. Many of of these "non radio Beatles song" would be a "career song" for anyone else. For example this psychedelic number sung by George Harrison which I never heard before. http://youtu.be/d-XiMysmcRY>... That song is from The Yellow Submarine animated film & soundtrack album. When The Beatles worked on that project they thought they were fulfilling a contractual obligation for 3 films they earlier had signed on to do. The 1st picture being A Hard Days Night & the 2nd being Help. As it turned out the psychedelic animated Yellow Submarine did not qualify as a 3rd Beatles film so that's why The Fab 4 did the Let It Be project & maybe that's why there was so much tension on the set making that film. I think Lennon & McCartney gave George a chance to do more tunes on The Yellow Submarine album as here is the companion piece from Harrison to 'It's Only a Northern Song', which was named tongue in cheek by George after The Beatles song publishing company, Northern Songs. ; PIt's All Too Much

| Oct-09-13 | | Travis Bickle: Sorry for spamming but there's 1 more anecdote I wanted to share with you. You said your favorite song on Rubber Soul, 1 of my favorite Beatles records is 'You Won' See Me'. Well when The Beatles were recording this album, McCartney was having relationship problems with his girlfriend Jane Asher. So You Won't See me & this next song are both Paul's pissed off messages to Jane Asher, that sound more gentlemanly set to music. ; P
I'm Looking Through You - (this false start on guitar was kept in for the American release of Rubber Soul but it was edited out for The British version.) http://youtu.be/wLFlwOHM0bg |

 | | jnpope: <JFQ>: Thanks for the input. I'll send a note to Daniel and see if he acts. The shocking thing is someone changed at least one thing I pointed out recently: W Fraser vs McDonnell, 1831 Not only did they get the date changed, but they added White's last move... so I know someone can modify games around here if they really want to... so I'm not sure why an update to
Zukertort vs Lipschutz, 1886 ...has been been sitting on the shelf for over a year now... *shrug* |

You're welcome. I did actually post about this late correction on the admin forum yesterday, and Daniel said the "CG.com Librarian" will give your correction "top priority." |

 | | WCC Editing Project:
<Repost> from "Da Bishop": <Robed.Bishop: <JFQ> Please pardon my intrusion here. It seems I recall reading a post awhile back that had some concerns over length, editing, etc. I know I'm not part of the project, but I wanted to do a little something to help, so I wrote the following letter. I hope you find it useful.
Dear Daniel:
At our editing meeting last night, after we finally started in on the pizza and beer, we got to talking about the editing. Somebody said as a joke, "I wonder if the admins will do any editing." After the laughter died down, a silence ensued, a silence like you've never heard. I'm telling you, Daniel, the silence in the room would have made the King of the jungle nervous. Then <<<all hell broke loose.>>> After the shouting blew over and the chairs were set back upright, we came up with a detailed plan. A letter needed to be written. I drew the short straw. We all agreed that because this is your site, of course you should have the final say before anything gets posted. We also understand that there might be technical reasons that require changes, such as space, etc., or that a young and nubile intern might feel the need to impress you and offer to fiddle with our wording and that that idea might seem appealing to you. We are certainly willing to work with you on this. Our suggestion is that you review our materials and run any changes by us before the materials are changed. It could very well be that some of the suggestions might be worthwhile, as unlikely as that seems, and that way we could make changes ourselves and then resubmit to you for approval. That way everyone is happy at the end. Because we took a vote, I have to continue. Some of our members (the heroin addicts) insisted that I include a sort of warning in the event we can't come to some agreement. I don't want to be too specific (frankly, with my hangover I can't be too specific), but boycotting in front of the CG tower isn't out of the question. We even have slogans for signs such as, "You can't rewrite history!" and "We aren't just pawns!" And I remember one chant in particular, "We'll take our fate all the way to mate!" Reading it here on paper doesn't really do it justice, but when shouted with alcohol-fueled passion, well, let me just say that it will certainly bring the crowd to its feet. There was some discussion about getting Fox News there, but that idea never really got off the ground before people started passing out. So that's where we stand - united - and we look forward to hearing from you. I know you might need some time to mull this over, and that's fine. I don't think we're going to have another meeting until we get all of the members out of jail.> heh... I like it.
I did move your short story out of the WCC forum. You never know who might see it there. Luckily here in my "personal" forum it's unlikely any admins will see it. I'm already testing Daniel's patience to the limit, as you may have noticed. Anyways great writing as usual.
We do have a shorter letter from <OhioChessFan> designed for the same function. I'm going to go with <Ohio>, but I wanted to preserve your fine satire here in my forum. |
|
| Oct-09-13 | | Robed.Bishop: <JFQ: I'm going to go with <Ohio>, but I wanted to preserve your fine satire here in my forum.> I have only two things to say about that:
1. What satire?
2. Cowards!
Sorry for posting it errantly and thank you for moving it. |

| Oct-09-13 | | Travis Bickle: Jess, I liked that Mazzy Star track! Here's a song I think you'll like. ; P http://youtu.be/2271LJruWzQ |

| Oct-09-13 | | TheFocus: <Robed.Bishop> is a fine writer. BRAVO! And I hope no one points at me and says, "<Focus> was the drunkest one at the meeting." All I can say is that I thought there was a drinking contest going on and I wanted the prize, which was more booze. That's how I remember it. What little that I can remember. |
|
| Oct-09-13 | | TheFocus: Nor did I throw the first punch.
Or chair.
No sir, that wasn't me. I dispute the video. |

| Oct-10-13 | | Karpova: <Jess: Will you please do something about this. More than one year to process a correction slip? From a noted chess historian who chooses to bless your website with his work? Not a good advert for Cg.com.> chessgames.com chessforumWhile I agree with you that this should have been corrected long ago, don't be so harsh on them. After all, there are probably thousands of correction slips waiting. Furthermore, they have to deal with people submitting dubious or outright wrong corrections and game scores, e. g. Morphy vs NN, 1858 or Alexander McDonnell LIFE Master AJ: <If you are sure of your source, the correct thing to do is to submit a correction slip ... I have submitted hundreds of these ...> P Littlewood vs L D Evans, 1978 |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <tbone> This one is great thanks- is it really true what John said that at this time in England a boy wouldn't call a girl on the telephone? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeSa... The first one you posted has a broken link for some reason. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Psychodelic Companion!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSa3... I like this one even better than "Northern Song".
George is underrated I think. This is a beautiful melody as well. That's one thing about The Beatles "Prog Rock" tracks- they generally keep a sweet melody throughout. This is unusual for Prog Rock. Maybe what the Beatles invented is "Frog Rock" and then that was copied by people who couldn't spell "Frog". In this way, "Prog Rock" was born.
Except for Revolution #9. heh |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <tbonneroomusicfestival> Wow- you know what Paul is better looking than Jane Asher, though she's cute for sure: http://www.beatlesbible.com/wp/medi... This is also a great song from "Rubber Soul" as you say- I hadn't know the back stories behind the two tracks about Jane. Is she "Lady Jane" that the Rolling Stones wrote about? She better not have jumped ship from Paul to a Rolling Stone. The Stones are great, but you never know where they've been. |
|
| Oct-10-13 | | Travis Bickle: No Jess, she isn't Lady Jane. But here is George Harrison's wife Patti Boyd's sister Jennifer Boyd in Donovan's song whom he was dating. ; P Jennifer Juniper - Donovan

|
| Oct-11-13 | | Travis Bickle: Jess, I just remembered that around the time of the recording of Rubber Soul, The Beatles also released this song as a single along with Day Tripper. I believe this was also Paul communicating with his fiancee, Ms. Asher through song. ; P P.S. I hope you can hear/see this video.

I think he has a "psychedelic voice" if there's such a thing. |
|
Oct-11-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Hmm just had an alarming thought. I wonder if <Ohio> thinks Donovan is a screwhead? <Ohio> did announce that only he knows which music is actually screwhead or not. He gave a passing grade to <Wim Mertens>, but I'm not sure about Donovan. I didn't get where I am today by contradicting <OhioMusicFan>, so I wonder if poor Donovan has reason to fear. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Simon le Tbon>
I sure can hear this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNfu... "We Can Work it Out" one of the best Beatles songs, but aren't they all the best? That's the trouble with the Beatles. No clunkers. I really like this one though.
TRY TO SEE IT MY WAY BABY
So when did Macca finally get over that darned redhead? I seem to recall Charlie Brown was also in love with a "little red haired girl." I doubt Charlie's discography can stack up to Paul's though. |
