 | | OhioChessFan: A gentle reminder. There might be some reasonable explanation for whatever happened, so treading lightly is in order for however the issue might be addressed. |

I didn't get where I am today by ignoring your advice. Since I have already posted the facts as proven to date here in my forum, I welcome you sleeping for one (1) month before advising further. I will also sleep for one (1) month and await your post-sleep advice. If I end up asking our webmaster how and why that post was deleted, a draft of inquiry from you would be welcome- similar to the respectful, but clear "request for an examination of any proposed changes to our WCC drafts" letter you posted for us a few months ago in the <WCC Project> forum. Ok I'll see you in one month.
(don't forget to have a Merry Christmas) |

I'm assuming that was <Beyonce's> "old style." I wonder if she has augmented her course of heinous chemicals and plastic surgery with 30,000 viewings of "My Fair Lady"- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVmU... |

 | | OhioChessFan: On a totally unrelated note, my employer decided about 3 weeks ago it'd be a great idea to move me to a midnight shift when my specific job was eliminated. I have had sleep problems since I was 10 years old. But about a year ago, I actually began going to bed.......and falling asleep! For more than 5! hours at a time. I even began to sleep 8 hours at a stretch more than once a year! Anyway, I begged out of the midnights and got transferred to a day job after 2 weeks on the midnights. I just concluded my first week back on days. Here are the times I have gotten to sleep: 3:30 AM, 3 AM, 3:30 AM, 6 AM, 4:30 AM. I love my liver and don't want to abuse it but I may have to soon buy some sleeping pills, shudder, and....use them. Ugh. So I may in fact sleep for a month, which would have the added benefit of missing the drama of Christmas. And the point of all this is to beg pardon for my coma induced silliness above. Or alternatively, beg more applause for such a well done kibitz while under physical duress. |

 | | OhioChessFan: On an ominous note, I recall when GM Short began his purge of his player page and I thought I might try to stand up to him. But I realized that a lot more people would want to hear from him than from me, so I quickly gave up on that battle. However, I was <right> which should count for something, I know, right? I don't want to hear the answer, either. |

I am terribly sorry to hear of your new forced schedule and sleep problems. That's a serious problem and I know about it first hand. I do have a rare "tip" to offer. I too don't like the idea of sleeping pills. But do you know Benadryl? It's just an antihistamine, and has a low impact on your liver and other internal friends. It's also non-addictive and so forth. My Mom told me about it- when she worked as a nurse, they used it to sedate crazy people who came into the emergency room. "50 CCs BENDRYL! STAT!"
The doctors would cry. And within minutes the hysterical people were asleep. At any rate I had some success with a 25mg. tablet of Benadryl. About 40 minutes after I take it I do feel very drowsy and it has helped me sleep. The best part is that there is no hangover in the morning either. Anyways I use it from time to time.
I vote <applause for a well done kibitz while under physical duress>. I almost died laughing. You being <right> on that issue counts for more than something. It counts for everything. We shall reconvene on this in a month, you and I, and discuss it further. That was, and remains, a good idea. |

Dec-15-13
 | | OhioChessFan: Yes, I knew but had forgotten about Benadryl [bad memories redacted]. I will take that under advisement. I am pretty ridiculous about meds. I refuse to take an aspirin a day despite my doctor's urging. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: I hear you.
It's a good job then that your doctor isn't Timothy Leary, or Frankenstein, for that matter. As for me and meds, I can report for a change that "looks like I picked a *good* week to quit drinking, LSD, and sniffing glue." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WAw... |

 | | Domdaniel: Hey, Jess ... as our premier historian, do you know anything about Louis Eichborn? I got interested after he turned up in a Klu.
It seems he played many games vs Adolf Andersson, and won a few ... his wins turned up in a notebook after his death, but nobody knows how many he lost. Just going by the wins, he may have been one of the strongest players in the world.
There are other anomalies: some sources call him a colleague of Andersson's, but others describe him as a banker.
And I found this:
<At a history newsgroup, one would expect an honest search for truth and facts. What one generally finds is delicate egos, unsubstantiated innuendo and pathetic attempts at oneupmanship. Once in a while you'll find something factual. The really sad part is that the people who frequent these places are usually quite intelligent and well educated. They know a lot about chess history and spend a great deal of time in researching all different facets of this facinating area. I wish I knew 10% of what they know. I also wish they weren't so thin-skinned and vain.>Thin-skinned? Vain? We don't know any people like that, of course.
;)

I do not know anything useful to tell you about the new player you discovered, <Serafino di Felicitations>, if I'm not mistaken. I think I got his name right but I'm on the tiny "work computer screen" and I can't be arsed to do all that scrolling to see the proper spelling of his name that you posted above. I know what you mean about chess historians. I'm happy to report that the crew here is better than at other websites, such as <Chess Banter>, which you may know by its more popular title <Taylor Kingston vs. The World>. I should point out that <Taylor> "wins" every argument because he actually supplies sourced facts. And yet the argument never ends. Curious, eh? Do you know about "propeitary reeding"?
This is the phenomenon that people who read a fact in a book start thinking they "own the fact" and when they post the fact, they feel a Propriottary interest in that fact being "correct" whether it's actually correct or not. I've had to train myself to stop doing it, but, sadly, no luck so far. Something to do with ego and ownership, I should imagine, but I'm not a clinical psychologist. I think <Howard> is though. Possibly he can shed more light on this vexing issue. |

Dec-15-13
 | | Domdaniel: <Jess> Fascinating. "People who read a fact in a book" should be extinct soon, along with books. So we won't have to worry about *them*. You're doing a great job. Keep it up. |
|
| Dec-15-13 | | hms123: Most people don't even know what a fact really is. It makes me crazy. Philosophically and scientifically yours,

Just saying. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Thanh> I'm sure you know this, but you can put any song on "endless loop" with Windows Media player eh? I do it all the time in an effort to fall asleep.
Protip: It might seem that your "favorite song" is the best choice, but in fact it just keeps you up enjoying the song. It's better to play a 10 minute loop from National Public Radio (long may its shadow continue to grow). |
|
| Dec-15-13 | | hms123: <Jess>
Clinical psychologists are at the bottom of the psychological barrel. I'd rather be guarding the coast. At least I'd be near the water. It's a fact. Statistically speaking, that is. |
