The interview was conducted by a reputable medium.

You don't go waving red flags in front of a Texican fighting man!

<Jess> Another movie tip but this time a completely unexpected one - coming from me, who hates "splash" and horror movies - but this one stuck, and I re/watch it regularly for some reasons(s)...

The Killing Jar

Chances are that you have seen it, but watch again; it is full of gems and the acting is mostly very good to just excellent.

Stars Michael Madsen, Harold Perrineau, who is brilliant, and a damn good waitress, Amber Benson.

The other top film I mentioned was of course much more of a feel good movie, but with many layers: The Descendants

Dec-27-13  chessmoron: <achieve> If you like "The Descendants," the same screenwriters wrote this year's comedy gem, "The Way Way Back." Sam Rockwell shines in everything and it's unfortunate that it is not reciprocated with recognition.
Dec-27-13  achieve: Thamks tremendously for that recommendation, <CM>, and good to hear from you! Best wishes to you for 2014 -- I will try and lay my hands on The Way Way Back.

Another Alice Cooper gem thanks <Tivo>!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTB...

Terrifying and also beautiful- Alice Cooper is tremendously talented. Why don't they put him in ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME?!

I did download "Billion Dollar Babies" record before and I think maybe it is Alice's best moment? Every song is an anthem and this is my new favorite:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rla...

One hour and 20 minute Jozza documentary, and in 720p too. Nicely spotted- It's almost finished downloading and I will watch it soon. My Beatles folder is bigger than my Genesis folder now.

Doh! I guess it's because I only collect Genesis up to 1976, and the Beatles have a lot more stuff about them for obvious reasons.

jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> I downloaded both of your recommendations and also <McLovin's> recommendations, so I can give a report soon.

Speaking of movies and blasts from the past, did you notice that BATCHIMEG TUSHVHINSHGTUGS recently beat <Hou Yifan>?

I hadn't looked at her page for years, back in the day when I was pretending to be her giving movie reviews.

Although It might have seemed I was copying <McLovin's> exact review format, I can report that I indeed invented that format.

<McLovin> rushed out *his* version whilst mine was still at the chemist's.

Did you ever see the John Wayne movie on "The Alamo"?

My father forced me to watch it along with "Gunga Din," "High Noon" and "Captain Blood."

I don't know if this contradicts my earlier points, but I believe every frame of the movie is accurate.

Dec-28-13  achieve: <Jess> I remember the Batchimeg series and always....enjoyed it ;)

The three films recommended by me and wilson are really worth it...

Michael Madsen: "Each and everyone of us is a beautiful, unique, snowflake" - shortly after which he shoots a man through the knee because he cheats on his wife whom he dearly loves, as if he is in charge of the Final Judgement, but still, even with this SPOILER - very worth of watching.

  jessicafischerqueen: No spoilers!

heh

I'll start with the <Madsen Avenue> then. He is an underrated actor and he appears in a lot of crime-related "hidden gems."

Dec-28-13  achieve: SPOILER

I'm just a damn waitress, but I can count!

Just one line after the other seems so right in this film, even though the overarching theme seems rather empty at first glance.

Dec-28-13  Boomie: <Jessicafisherofmen: "Gunga Din," "High Noon" and "Captain Blood.">

One could do far worse. "Gunga Din" is especially wonderful thanks in large part to Grant's comic genius. I know the prevailing wisdom is that today's CGI clogged monsters are better adventures but I just don't get it. You can't make a better adventure movie.

Brace yourself for another unsubstantiated urban legend.

Mae West went to Hollywood to save Paramount from certain demise. After negotiating a salary of $1 more per year than the studio head (heh), she walked with a VP to her car. She noticed a man across the street.

West: Who's the tall, dark, and handsome?

VP: Oh, he's just an extra. A nobody really.

West: I want him to play the lead in my first movie.

Thus Cary Grant was born.

Dec-28-13  thegoodanarchist: < jessicafischerqueen: ...

I would be happy if <Suzanne Collins>, who wrote the screenplay, would be honored with a public egging instead of an award....

Oddly, she made two low budget horror movies just before hitting the jackpot with <The Hungry Hungry Hippo Games>....>

This is hilarious! I also agree with you that most movies today are infantile. I just got Hansel and Gretel from Netflix and it was unwatchable. Guh.

Dec-28-13  thegoodanarchist: <jessicafischerqueen:

On excellent Christmas news, <Col Mortimer> and <AJ> have apologized to each other and agreed not to fight.>

This is shocking and surprising! Turns out that reading your forum is the thing to do to learn what the heck goes on around here.

Found out about GMRK's "typesetting" issue.

I also saw some Latin, which I don't know, but it seemed to say "this is how penguins travel the world"

Dec-28-13  thegoodanarchist: <Check It Out: I mean, Lynyrd Skynyrd was inducted in 2005! They've written a few good songs, Simple Man and Sweet Home Alabama, and even Freebird can get a mention, but that's about it.>

The BEST Skynyrd song, hands down, is The Ballad of Curtis Loew:

OhioChessFan: Play me a song, Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew.

Artsy fartsy music with existential lyrics are fine, but I never minded a good rock riff powering a jukebox classic:

Dec-28-13  thegoodanarchist: <OhioChessFan:>

Yes, of course! Thanks for reminding me of "Gimme Three Steps", <OCF>

I would take that song over Freebird or SHA any day of the week.

OhioChessFan: I recall an amusing interview (I think it was Ronnie, maybe Ed King, but not sure) where they discuss the clearly Jewish spelling of Loew. Apparently most of the band never paid it a bit of attention.

Here's another great one. Somehow this song reminds me of Wild Horses by the Stones, where rockers prove they can be introspective too.

An intriguing comparison. I like "Wild Horses" but I like "You Can't Always Get What You Want" even better.

The Stones started with a sound similar to Wild Horses (after the London Bach Choir did their thing first) and then ramped up the rock from there.

Another classic that uses the formula is "Stairway to Heaven" but the link is for YCAGWYW.

Oh, and Merry Christmas too!
