 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <jessicafischerqueen: Your capacity to help others at all times is exceeded only by your patience with thick people such as myself. I was reminded of a lesson of yours I forgot not one day ago whilst perusing a fine book today that had "Shakmati" instead of "Shakmatni" in it. Ha! I sniffed. I know that's not right.
But for how long...>
Some magazines have the N in their names (e.g. Shakhmatny(i) Bulletin, Shakhmatny(i) Listok, Shakhmatny(i) V(y)estnik). Others don't (Shakhmaty v SSSR, Shakhmaty v Rossii). The trick is to keep them apart :) |

That's worth stashing somewhere.
Thanks again. |

Good Heavens <Stony> you're a Dutchman, not a Russian! er like <Max Euwe> maybe you learned Russian now? |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Stony>
On that topic, you may enjoy this from <David Bronstein> speaking to <Bent Larsen> around 1990: <Bronstein>: "When did you learn to speak Russian?" <Larsen>: "During my army service, when we were preparing to attack you." -Secret Notes, p.21 |

 | | Stonehenge: Heh
Yes, I can read Russian which is quite handy. I'm better at Serbo-Croatian though. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Stony> That's outstanding on both counts, man. |

Love both the song and the series ^.^ |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Thanh> Yes it looks and sounds marvelous, but my total lack of Chinese might make it difficult for me. My co-worker is from China and she is trying to teach me some simple phrases such as a basic greeting: "Ni- hao"
But I say "Pi - hao" instead.
Which means something like "Dung! Hello!"
ahahaha she hates that so I say it every day. |

| Apr-29-14 | | twinlark: Hi <Jess>
Thanks for referring a bio amendment to my forum. It hasn't arrived yet, but hopefully it should. Anyway, just dropping in to say hello and to recommend a good Aussie mini-series, the Jack Irish movies (starring Guy Pearce as Jack) based on Peter Temple's novels. It's has some great Aussie humour and lots of good shots of downtown Melbourne. There are three movie lengths episode available. You'll especially enjoy the "Fitzroy Youth Club". |

Good to know <Art> is a Beatles fan eh? Thanks for the trio of fine music from <Simon and Garfunkle>. I was so obsessed with "America" that I once hummed it continuously throughout an entire game of chess with my brother. He won. |

"Pee? How?"
aaaHAHAAHAHA
<Hanh> thank you for the extra Chinese phrase and slightly different meaning too. In Korean "Pi/Bi" means "blood."
In Konglish they call pee "yellow water."
In Chinese the sound "pee" means dung, which is pretty entertaining if you think about it. No Korean can pronounce the letter "p" or the letter "b" because neither sound exists in their language. Similarly, "l," as we know it, doesn't exist, and neither "k" nor a "hard g" exists. Of course, no westerner can pronounce the Korea "p/b" or the "k/g" either. Not to mention the Korean "l" which is almost silent, but not silent. If you simply don't pronounce it, they usually understand what you are saying. Example:
If you say "Lee Myung-bak" they will look at you like you are crazy. But if you say "Eeeee Myung-baaaahgkgkg" they understand you perfectly. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Doggimus>
Thank you for the recommendation of the <Guy Pearce> trilogy, but I need the titles of the actual movies to be able to watch them. Here is Guy's "filmography": http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001602/... Might you please identify which of these three titles are the right three? On other news, yesterday I stuck two <Alekhine> playlists into your fine bio - Alekhine's complete tournaments, and complete games, taken from <Lynryd Skinner's> fine biography, and with plenty of help from <TheFocus>. I also tried something, but I'm not sure if it was successful? I "italicized" the first words in your "sources" section, but I'm not sure if it looks better or worse. Maybe you might change it back the way you had it if it looks worse to you? Alexander Alekhine |

| May-01-14 | | achieve: Hi <Jessica> - it has been a long time since I was here, even spelling your name "in full" -- but, dare I say - a revisit for good reason, namely to share with you one of the most beautiful and moving pieces I have heard, possibly ever... I hold it in high regard, and dear to my heart, so here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4N...
It is Bach, JS., Sinfonia in G minor, the 11th of his 15 three-part Inventions, as they are more commonly known. I'd say Download this 3m50s of [your appropriate term] to your hard disc, and it no doubt will be a valuable addition to your Collection. Hoping to contact you more, also on the musical front, in the near future, but of course to also chat and learn how you are doing these days. |
