Dammit, Janet, I love you.

I saw Rocky before it was overwhelmed by would be performance "artists". The score, written by Riff Raff, is one of the best of the Rock and Roll movies. Many of the performers, like Tim Curry and the Roxy Music crew, were professional singers. Meat Loaf's 50's parody is terrific hot patootie.

The acting, far better than such treacle deserved, managed to raise it to something resembling an art form. There are refugees from the Royal Shakespeare Theater in there for chrissakes. For example Patricia Quinn, Magenta and Lips, was in "I, Claudius". Sarandon says she is proud to have been a part of it and why not?

"There's a Light" is also my fave song. "Dammit Janet" always raises a smile as wonderfully performed by Bostwick and Sarandon.

jessicafischerqueen: <Janet> loves you too man.

I had no idea of the august credentials of the cast, but it's no surprise. A great movie, a great show.

QUESTION: Isn't <Barry Bostwick> actually also a paper product?

I'm pretty sure about this.

  Domdaniel: Hey, Jess.
I just read <Johnny Alucard> by Kim Newman ... the 4th book in the <Anno Dracula> series ... in which Drac defeats Van Helsing, marries Queen Victoria, and becomes ruler of Britain and Germany ... I recall that you wrote about <Johnny Alekhine> around the time that Newman's novel was published. Is there a connection?

Yes, there is.

Amazing! The first time I saw "Alucard" was in a "IT'S HAMMER TIME" horror film starring Christopher Lee.

They had "Alucard" spelled out with scrabble letters on the board.

I bet you know what happened next...

Thanks for that great RYAN ADAMS track, I'm listening to it right now.

I think I told you this before, but he is so good looking that I didn't even notice he was blind for the first two years I was a fan.

I just thought he had cool sunglasses.

I believe the Alucard was first played by Lon "Yank My" Chainey, Junior in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Son_of... (1943 version).

SwitchingQuylthulg: A note on Game Collection: Tal at the Reykjavik Student Olympiad 1957.

It is stated that <Tal won the gold medal on 1st board, scoring +7 -0 =3>, but this may not be true.

He did have the best scoring percentage of anyone on the 1st board, but http://www.suomenshakki.fi/arkisto/... states that "the best for each board were calculated directly from points scored and not, as usual, by percentages", making Miroslav Filip (who played three more games than Tal) the top 1st board player.

I can't promise this statement is accurate, but at the very least it's worth looking into. Olimpbase does list Tal as the gold medalist but notes some uncertainty.

You really do know exactly what's going on man.

I appreciate you posting here in "the old bat's" forum, and with valuable information.

I will re-edit my entries both for Game Collection: Tal at the Reykjavik Student Olympiad 1957, and, more importantly to me, in this as well: Game Collection: Tal's Tournaments and Matches 1948-1979.

As in the notorious "Tal vs. Averbakh- who is the biggest liar" contest over at the Bistro, when in doubt about two sources of approximately equal status, just include both accounts and let the reader decide.

Although the more I think about it, the more I believe <Averbakh>, as much as I'd prefer to believe <Tal> is telling the truth about himself in one of the finest chess books ever written. One of the most enjoyable, at any rate.

I also enjoyed Averbakh's autobiography immensely, despite recent evidence that I don't remember any of it.

I've decided to seek an advanced degree in Ancient Alien Theory.

Every time I hear the phrase "Ancient Alien Theorist", I break out laughing so you know it's got to be fun.

Plus I'll get to solve some of the questions that have challenged the great minds and made them soft.

Like "What made the girls go wild?". I'm betting it was a part of the aliens' nefarious breeding program.
