 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Teem> Not your cup of tea eh? I swear by him, but I'll not try to convince you. Here is something you might like better, from Canada: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbME... |

| Aug-05-14 | | Boomie: <Jeeeez: Cuppa tea> Never touch the stuff.
I gave the vid a second try just listening to the song since the action was unwatchable for me. But, alas, I didn't care for the song either. Here's a vid of guys hamming it up on a song. This isn't a fair comparison because these guys are geniuses and it's a great song. But it shows what can be done with the humorous approach. Notice how effective the underplay can be. Very few can get away with over the top performances. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0g... |

In the over the top category, nobody can touch Weird Al. "Yo, ding dong, yo!"
"I got more chins than Chinatown."

<Tim> I can't stomach Weird Al, but you're certainly right about that <Paul Simon> song it is great. Do you notice he is still using some African beats in that number? I thought that was one of his best periods when he was exploring African music. Here he is with <Black Ladysmith Bombastic>: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAhH... Paul is now 100 years old, but still spritely. |
|
| Aug-05-14 | | Boomie: <Jeezabelle: Do you notice he is still using some African beats in that number?> Good call. The song is from the Graceland album (1986), which uses a lot of what he learned in darkest South Africa. The rhythms are super cool and infectious. |
|
| Aug-05-14 | | Boomie: <Jessland>
Doing my due diligence, I've learned that the backup singers on the song "Graceland" are the Everly Brothers. Those guys cropped up in the strangest places in popular music. |
|
| Aug-05-14 | | Travis Bickle: Mr BOOMIE!! & Jess, here's a song written for 2 of his heroes by Paul McCartney. On The Wings of a Nightingale - The Everly Brothers

|
| Aug-05-14 | | Travis Bickle: M'Lady Jesserly, have you ever seen the film Requiem for a Dream? It's an intense psychological drama that could be put under the list of Indie Horror flicks. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0180093/ |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
Good call <Mr. Karloff>- I added Darren Aranofsky's <Requiem for a Squab> to the list, with credit to you: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls070522782/. It definitely qualifies as an indie horror, though most don't think of it that way. |

Little known fact about the Everly Bros is that most of their early hits were written by the married team, Felice and Boudleaux Bryant. After they changed labels, some of their own songs became hits such as "Till I Kissed You", "Cathy's Clown", and "When Will I Be Loved". |

<Trappist Pickle> heh.... <Trappist Pickle> and <Teem> Thanks for Everly Brothers lessons. If I'm not mistaken they first signed with <Martinez Records> back in the late 30s? Here is the most famous one, since I will start at the beginning. Great song for sure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbU3... |

The Bros first hit was "Bye, Bye Love" (1957). It was #2 behind an Elvis hit. They had already developed their signature harmony. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRy...
They had so many hits that by 1962, they had earned $35 million. And that's back when $35 million meant something. |
|
| Aug-06-14 | | Boomie: <Jeezabelle: super cool> Bobby Darin managed to accomplish a lot in his 37 years. He started out as a singer-songwriter and scored a few hits in the late 50's. He also became an award winning actor. Here's a tribute to Darin and his first wife Sandra Dee with his song "Dream Lover". He met her on the set of his first major film for which he won a Golden Globe award as the best newcomer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlG... |
|
| Aug-06-14 | | Jim Bartle: I thought Darin saw Sandra Dee sitting in a sailboat on a dock when she was about 15. In any case, Darin did have songs with very different styles: "Mack the Knife," "Splish Splash," "Beyond the Sea." |
|
| Aug-06-14 | | Boomie: <Jim Bartle: I thought Darin saw Sandra Dee sitting in a sailboat on a dock when she was about 15.> Wasn't that on the set of "Gidget Goes Bananas"? |
|

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<caucho> Thanks for more Bread- Some may find them "lightweight" but I think <David "Bill" Gates> is a great singer, something like <Art Garfunkle>. Not as great as Art, but I like him. Here is "Guitar Man," a song Gates wrote about <Boomie>: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrs... |
|
Aug-06-14
 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Jeem Bartle> Thanks for adding to <Teem's> background information on <Bobby>. Here's another distinct style to add to your list of three diverse Bobby styles. This song was written by <Teem Hardin>: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjFR... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Teem> Based on your recommendation of "Beyond the Sea," I have gotten ahold of <Kevin Spacey's> film about the great Bobby Darin, called <Beyond the Sea>, oddly enough. I will give a report on it later today, after I watch it. I'm guessing that it won't be suitable for my "Indie Horror" list, but if it is, that will be a pleasant surprise: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls070522782/ |
|
| Aug-06-14 | | Boomie: <Jeese>
I agree that it probably won't make your indecent whore list. There isn't any scary part unless you think marrying an 18 year old Gidget is scary. Come to think of it, that is kind of spooky. So maybe... |
|
| Aug-06-14 | | Boomie: Yet another Bobby style was political awareness. Like many celebs, he followed Robert Kennedy on the campaign trail. Sadly he was in the hotel when Kennedy was shot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ1... |
|
| Aug-06-14 | | Boomie: Bobby phase 4 found our hero exploring "Philly Funk", a sound that fascinated many song writers such as David Bowie and John Lennon (ergo "Fame"). Super cool song.
"Use that thing to make my eardrums ring."
