Aug-07-14  twinlark: Hi Jess

I watched Nick Caves <The Proposition>. Great movie, great cast, great everything, especially understanding of what was happening.

It gives some idea of the nature of the brutality that ran rampant across the frontier, even toward the end of the 100 Year War, and what it did to people. It's refreshing to see a British made film with such insight into Australia and its real history.

Lots of Brits still carry on about Australia's convict heritage, but stop short of thinking through the implications both of what they are saying, what it actually meant to people through the centuries, and how their rulers' antecedents bear enormous responsibility for these developments.

Aug-07-14  hms123: <Teem> <Me and Mr. Hohner> is fabulous. I didn't know BD had it in him.
Aug-07-14  Boomie: <hms123: Me and Mr. Hohner>

BD was full of surprises. This song was perhaps influenced by Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues". His best lyrics, I think, showing humor and irony. The Philadelphia of the 60's had a corrupt and brutal police department which routinely accosted blacks in the street for no reason. To express this using humor and Philly Funk is just brilliant.

Aug-07-14  madlydeeply: Why speak of Philly police brutality in the past tense? Occupy Philly was clubbed into smithereens. Philly is a trauma city, always will be.
Aug-08-14  Thanh Phan: <jessicafisherqueen> a Windows 8.1 update is supposed to make an appearance on August 12 http://www.extremetech.com/computin...

<Basically, instead of going longer between bigger updates, Microsoft wants to push out smaller updates more regularly alongside normal Patch Tuesday security fixes (and Microsoft now wants to rebrand it as Update Tuesday, too).>

Aug-08-14  Travis Bickle: Hey Jess, here's Syd Barret sadly talking incoherently early in Pink Floyd's career. He was a genius with a fragile Psyche who went over the edge with the help of too much LSD.

Aug-09-14  thegoodanarchist: <Travis Bickle: M'Lady Jesserly, have you ever seen the film Requiem for a Dream? It's an intense psychological drama that could be put under the list of Indie Horror flicks>

OMG I almost puked when I watched that movie! The scene where they are shooting up in the car on the road trip south, and they show Jared Leto's arm. Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

Aug-09-14  thegoodanarchist: <Boomie: <Jim Bartle: I thought Darin saw Sandra Dee sitting in a sailboat on a dock when she was about 15.>

Wasn't that on the set of "Gidget Goes Bananas"?>

Statements such as "Gidget Goes Bananas" <foster> an inaccurate view of cinema.

Aug-09-14  Boomie: <thegoodanarchist: My wife is so fat...>

Dangerously close to a "Yo' mama" joke.

Maybe while the queen isn't looking, we can get away with it.

Yo' mama is so fat, she has more folds than an origami crane.

Aug-10-14  Boomie: ->

Yo' mama is so cheap, she brings coupons to the penny arcade.

Aug-10-14  crawfb5: Yo' mama is so ugly she'd make a train take a dirt road.

Aug-10-14  Boomie: <Jessticular Homocide>

I noticed that your indecent whore list is missing "Re-Animator" and "From Beyond", two creepy Lovecraft stories directed by Stuart Gordon (any relation to Bert I. Gordon, Mister B. I. G.? I wonder).

"Re-Animator" has the extra attraction of comic relief and is highly regarded by all the rotten tomato critics.
