I did actually give your biopic a chance, but I only lasted 15 minutes. There was no logo- must have been a "web rip" to begin with. But I cannot stand the obtrusive and obnoxious "sound track" and "very fast motion" effects. This is why the History Channel and Discovery Channel are so retarded. The "hip" audience of 13 year old attention deficit retards who like such effects will never, ever watch a documentary on the <Marianas Trench> to begin with. So all these low rent "documentary" channels end up doing is alienating part of the audience that might well be interested in such fare. I prefer documentaries constructed for grown ups, such as PBS "American Experience," any Ken Burns film, or any David Attenborough nature documentary. I really tried hard to get past 15 minutes of your biopic but I just couldn't do it. I think you should hire a new producer. If I'm not mistaken, <Teem> has just started up a film production company based on the fine work of <Kenneth Dilbey>: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNO... |

Yes well I did see both KON TIKI films you mention and yes the one THOR made on the actual raft is brilliant. Much the best of these two. |

<Teem> I actually started looking for a new TV series "The Jackal" before I clicked on your fine link. Yes excellent recommendation- I watched every "West Wing" episode except for the last two seasons when <Adam Sorkin> was not involved any more. When he left, the series didn't become terrible- but the Sorkin productions were so good that I couldn't take the sudden drop in quality. Also, the loss of <Rob Lowe's> brilliant character was a heavy blow earlier in the series. I actually watched all of <Adam Sorkin's> TV series that I could find. His first one I think was "Sports Night" and highly recommended. His current series with <Jeff Daniel>, "News Room" is his best yet. I hope he does a third season. |

The seemingly sudden demise of "The Best Bling" was a hard pill to swallow. That was easily Rob Lowe's best work and he was surprisingly up to the task. Sorkin had a way of bringing out the best in actors. Even Tom Cruise and Demi Moore seemed like actors in "A Few Good Men". |

<Take one for the Teem> Aaron Sorkin- I got his name wrong: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0815070/ Yes he's brilliant to be sure.
Rob Lowe's scene here shows just how good an actor he can be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP3o... |

My favorite scene - Blame It On the Bossa Nova

The way Ms. Proctor tightens her belt when POTUS arrives is brilliant. I am shocked that nobody featured her on the big screen. |

Yes another great scene featuring both <Lob Low> and <The Proctologist>. I was disappointed by two things- that she had such a short run on the series, and she and Sam never got together. I would have given her more screen time in more episodes and given her a raise. Before her TV star days she did appear in a few Oscar Winning Films such as "Big Momma's House 2" and "Jerry McGuire", and it appears she has been busy playing the role of <Calliope Decauter> on the show CSI Miami, which I do now remember her from. I used to watch that for <Enrico Caruso>, but with the new "HD" resolution I got tired of seeing his nose hairs and such. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0698346/ |

 | | Fusilli: As it happens, I started to watch <The West Wing> during the summer, on Netflix. I didn't watch it when the series ran. I am up to the middle of season 5. I think it's outstanding. I think Josh is my favorite. Josh and C.J. Toby is fine, but far too predictable, like Leo, and even the president. Sam was great. Toby's best:

The most emotionally charged scene of the whole series (well, up to where I am right now), if you ask me. "I can only hope, sir."
On the <deepest failure> of all documentaries, yes, I agree with all your points, <Jess>. I managed to tuned out all those things, but they do represent exactly what you wrote. |

Excellent blues. I think The Doors were all about the blues. Jim Morrison sounds great on this track. Was "Morrison Hotel" a real bar?
Here is an excellent documentary on the making of "LA Woman" that I saw recently: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYig... |

Outstanding choice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqLI... POTUS: "We're still in NATO, right?"
heh...
Also I forgot how much I loved "Mrs. Grundy," the gruff, yet kind hearted 300 year old personal assistant to the president. The attention to detail in this sequence shows great care and artistic vision- such as the serried profile of the main characters at the funeral. Just one of many prize winning flourishes that we got episode after episode. |

 | | Fusilli: <JFQ> <Also I forgot how much I loved "Mrs. Grundy," the gruff, yet kind hearted 300 year old personal assistant to the president.> Interestingly, the actress that played Mrs Landingham, Kathryn Joosten (1939–2012), was only one year older than Martin Sheen (b. 1940). From "The West Wing: Post Hoc, Ergo Propter Hoc (#1.2)" (1999) Toby Ziegler: Mrs. Landingham, does the president have free time this morning? Mrs. Landingham: The president has nothing but free time, Toby. Right now he's in the residence eating Cheerios and enjoying Regis and Kathie Lee. Should I get him for you? Toby Ziegler: Sarcasm's a disturbing thing coming from a woman of your age, Mrs. Landingham. Mrs. Landingham: What age would that be, Toby?
Toby Ziegler: Late twenties?
Mrs. Landingham: Atta boy.
Toby Ziegler: Can I have a cookie?
Mrs. Landingham: No.

| Oct-06-14 | | Travis Bickle: <jessicafischerqueen: <btone> Excellent blues. I think The Doors were all about the blues. Jim Morrison sounds great on this track. Was "Morrison Hotel" a real bar?> Good question Jess, I thought it was just a fake hotel for a Doors album cover but it really was a hotel!(I found this about the subject on the net)
The cover photo was taken at the actual Morrison Hotel located at 1246 South Hope Street in Los Angeles. The band asked the owners if they could photograph the hotel and they declined, so the band went inside when nobody was looking and took the photograph.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped... Jim always favored the blues. As a matter of fact after his last album before he died, 'L.A. Woman', Jim told friends we finally made a real blues album... Here's the last track recorded for that record.

| Oct-07-14 | | achieve: <Jess> Just here for a brief heads up that I left a belated double reply to/for you at <Da Boomster's House>. And a pleasure to visit here again, too; it's been quite a while, eg since we analysed a Chess Game!! But unfortunately the Euwe Center for Chess Studies still has its doors closed, but as always your Fischer House has hers opened. ;) |

| Oct-07-14 | | achieve: <J> Forgot to add another tip, awesome acting here, delightfully depressing story, just the way we like it, but that's the price we pay for good realism, in: Beneath The Harvest Sky
I think it is THAT good, because it was hard to believe I was watching actors at work in several scenes, which, for me, is a rare experience, especially the young actor in the lead role nails it, lives it. |

<Niels Young> Thanks for the heads up! I have replied over in <Le Cirque du Singe> (written by Pierre Boule). As for analyzing chess, I find that my current activities demand great width, but no depth. In order to do the chess history work I've signed on for, I need to "understand" at least the basic logic of many different games, but I don't have time to really get into any one game, the way we used to. Do you remember which game you said this about?
WE MUST UNDERSTAND THIS GAME.
(Hint- a rook was left en prise for nine (9) moves)
Not surprisingly, my ability to actually play chess has suffered. |
