May-11-11  Travis Bickle: Hey Jess when are you going to work on the Gligo documentary? signed impatient Taxi Driver in Chicago ; P

May-11-11  just a kid: I've kind of slacking on the job, If there was somehow a boss I'd be fired! I just lost my interest in chess for a while but I'm trying to be a better captain
May-12-11  Travis Bickle: Jess at least another year? ; ( I only have 4 more days on Chessgames!

P.S. I seen your last documentary on Rossolimo & I thought it was excellent! You are getting better with each video & you say more with less film!

Great job, Jess!

Don't forget to renew your Preemy- we need the Emporium.

<Rossolimo: Chess Artist>

Written by Jessica Fischer
Narrated by Richard Dewoskin
Researched by Jessica Fischer, Larry Crawford, and Annie Kappel

May-12-11  crawfb5: <Jess> Because of your sustained interest, I am now able to provide to you this TOP SECRET footage I shot at work:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8jp...

You may recognize me in the last shot.

In other news, I am still refining the cable article. You know, making minor edits, like <adding the 1903 match, which I completely left out>.

So much for my army of proofreaders.

HAHAHAHAHA

jessicafischerqueen: At least you're smart enough to get people to proofread your work before you publish it- including yourself. Unlike me, apparently.

It's back to the test screaming for <Nezh> if I ever finish researching it.

May-12-11  crawfb5: I'm still looking through <The sorcerer's apprentice> during lunches.

You think of Bronstein lost in thought at the board, taking long stretches of time on "obvious" moves. However, he was a speed freak. He won the Moscow 5-minute championship in 1948, 1952, and 1953. You know that wasn't your grandfather's speed chess.

This game is not in our database. It is listed as "active" but he doesn't give the exact time control.

Bronstein - M. Gurevich 1993 Active chess tournament, Brussels

I prefer a beautiful finish, not necessarily the shortest one.">

May-12-11  LIFE Master AJ: Did you ever get a chance to look at my review?

jessicafischerqueen: <AJ> I did indeed- just a few minutes ago!

About <Ulf Anderssen> book:

http://www.amazon.com/Grandmaster-C...

I had only read about <Ulf Anderssen> in the Oxford Chess Companion before, where he was characterized as a very positional player.

I found that your review went in to great detail to explain what this actually meant- so personally the review was valuable to me, in that I would not buy this book.

However, you also specifically pointed out many admirable qualities of both <Ulf> and the book, making for a balanced appraisal that would be of use to anyone considering buying the book.

So yep it is a good review <AJ>, fair and useful to the potential buyer, which is what the customer really wants.

It's good you are getting back in to the reviews.

Tough to see that and quite wonderful in a speed game. Thank you for not calling it "cute."

Position after

38...Rxg7 (forced) and now mate in two from here- requires some vision- all hinges on white's control of the g-8 square PLUS the fact that the black king has no escape square on h-6. A fact that I had great difficulty seeing for several minutes even though I'd already been told there's an imminent mate.

jessicafischerqueen: <no escape square on h7>, I mean.
May-12-11  crawfb5: <Thank you for not calling it "cute.">

I didn't call anything "cute" <here>...

I'm surprised you had no comment on my workplace footage.

Bronstein says he once won an informal speed "match" with Najdorf, who by all accounts, was an absolute monster at 5-minute games.

May-13-11  achieve: Hi, <Jess> - I just now, I think 1:26 afternoon your time, sent the emu as per requested. I hope <you> received it, as it also contained a "personal" flash from the past.

So, I sent it to your new address, without the "underscores" {jessica_fisch ...) eh?

Hope it landed safely, and please give me a heads up if so, or if not. heh

May-13-11  Travis Bickle: Jess there once was a good chess website with audio mic'ed GM's and many activities. It was WCN or World Chess Network where GM Larry Christiansen was a regular commentator on his Friday night show with analysis of latest games, question & answer and also blitz games with members.

I remember once GM Christiansen made the remark that Ulf Anderson was very difficult to crack, (break down his defense), & Larry C. was a great attacker!

I think positional players like Anderson or the great Tigran Petrosian are not to be overlooked as it takes a special talent to be able to defend very strongly plus plan your own counter-attack.

jessicafischerqueen: <Travis> those are good points about the beauty and thrill of the positional champion- I admit my prejudice may be unfounded.

In fact, one of the projects I have already researched but not produced is a biography of <Sultan Khan>, who was also one of the greatest positional maestros in chess history. <chancho> provided a great deal of help on researching the scant details available about "The Life of KHAN"

Many will remember his post-chess career appearances on Star Trek as well.

I have also read <Tigran Petrosyan's> autobiography and I will be doing a biography of him as well- very interesting and controversial champion, with a very interesting and controversial wife, the infamous "Rosa."

It will be enough to keep me busy for years.

May-13-11  Travis Bickle: Jess with us being Bobby Fischer admirers and outright fanatics I thought of a few things I've read about The Maestro over the years.

Bobby said he read over 1,000 chess books and took from each the best information! ; P

A Chess Master & writer said Fischer with his computer like memory had the equivalent of 10 PHD's in chess!

Susan Polgar who invited Bobby Fischer as a guest in The Polgar's guest house for a time & Bobby who analyzed games with Susan, (Susan said that was 1 of the most fufilling times of her chess career), once said of Bobby, "he doesn't think he's the best, he just thinks no one can beat him". HAHAHA!!!

Bobby used to read published chess books and would correct lines given as improvements! ; P

I recently read a Russian GM who's name eludes me say Fischer didn't have a style, Bobby played like Rybka, he made the best move and had an abnormal ability to remember everything! Bobby could also calculate without error deep positions that only the strongest masters would play!

Also Fischer had great intuition an intangible you cannot teach. His will to win goes without saying!

May-13-11  Travis Bickle: Jess while I'm at it I happened to remember 1 other Fischer story.

During a tournament Bobby got up to stretch his legs and he passed by a friends game, (I think it was William Lombardy but I'm not positive.) After Bobby studied the board a few minutes he left and went about his business. About 2 months later Fischer asked his friend did he play "so & so" move in that game. His chess buddy said in all honesty he couldn't remember the position, but he did go on to win. So right then & there Bobby got out his pocket set and set up his friends board to the exact position! Plus the move Fischer thought was best proved to be a more economical win!! Now that's genius!

IMO Fischer in that healthy young age of razor sharp memory, tactics and skill could beat anybody on earth in their primes!

jessicafischerqueen: <T-Dawg> thanks for those great Bobby anecdotes= he will always be my favorite player.

Did you read "End Game" yet?

A very very fine book, particularly for Fischer fans.

May-13-11  hms123: <jess> You were right. I did hear from myself today. Your prize is a peripatetic emu.
May-13-11  Travis Bickle: Jess on Endgame, I started it enthusiastically and I got bored somewhat with the novel writing approach Frank Brady took telling the story, reporting on things like he was there when he wasn't. I hope to start reading it again to see if it was just my early 1st reaction.
May-13-11  fab4: lol.. Yeah no rationalitiy on this site ..

I tried tho . The 'Society' was an option...

I'm not into 'clubs' either

May-13-11  hoodrobin: hey <jess>! Today Grishark was swimming near poor Kramnik who was heavily armed but looked tyred. Interesting game, though.
