There seems to be a movement to old fashioned Christmas values now that the recession is over: wonton selfishness and unbridled consumerism. Good times! |

<Teem> I didn't know Mexicans celebrated Kwanzaa but you're dead on about Charlie Brown. As a Christmas gift, I offer you the "Director's Cut" (no kidding- they made it a bit longer now) of the greatest movie ever made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajg... |

My dear <AntiChrist> I laughed loudly about the "Dork Roast." It's funny because it's true.

<Canyonero> Did you create that meme? It's hilarious man. I had no idea Donald Trump watched chess history videos. Possibly he read the <Rogoff> page last week when I actually endorsed him as a Presidential Candidate (really I did you can check), and decided to endorse me in return. Do you think I should offer to donate money to his campaign now? |

Nice one, <Old Sock>. Blue is one of the traditional Christmas colors, or it was at our house at least. We had blue lights on the Christmas tree. |

Question:
Is it politically or religiously incorrect to use the phrase <GREAT HOWLING CHRIST> in an email to one's family, so close to Christmas? My sainted Dad used to say that all the time around the house, so I just assumed it wasn't blasphemy. Mind you, this was the same man who told me (a five year old girl) that "El Tuffo Crappo" was the motto of the Mexican Marines. I believed him, too. In fact, I still believe him. |

My dear <Lee>
I didn't get where I am today by arguing with experts. Unfortunately the horse already left the barn on this one! HOWEVER (special Ohio edition), I will refrain from such license in future messages. It really is part of my family heritage though. I remember the first time I heard it like it was yesterday. I used to love watching my father at his workbench. He had the entire basement covered in all manner of tools and sundry. I loved the smell of the wood and grease. Anyways on this occasion he dropped a rather large lug wrench on his foot, and out came the phrase! I can't really explain why, but I don't remember having been more delighted in my life. |
|
| Dec-23-15 | | playground player: <Dear Jess> Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! When we were kids, everybody's father had a workbench, either in the cellar or the garage. Like you, I loved to watch my father ply his tools. One day he was using a power drill--he was among the first to get one--and he slipped and drilled a hole clean through the top of his foot, all the way through, and through the sole of his shoe, too. He said, "Oh, darn!" Your father's expression, while I cannot approve of it, was certainly more colorful--and rather more in keeping with the situation. Oh, the memories, though! My uncles had workbenches, too. What fun it was to experiment with all those tools! Thanks for evoking such good times. |

Meery Chreesmas <Teem>! Here is a another Charlie Brown scene that is more in keeping with the season. I rank Linus' rendition of a brief passage from the Book of Luke among the very greatest of American speeches, up there with FDR's speech after Pearl Harbor, or JFK's speech about going to the moon. I also rank Linus to be among the greatest of Americans, even though he's just a cartoon character. Snoopy too. 1. A DATE WHICH WILL LIVE IN INFAMY

2. WE CHOOSE TO GO TO THE MOON IN THIS DECADE, AND DO THE OTHER THINGS, NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE EASY- BUT BECAUSE THEY ARE HARD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g25...
3. THAT'S WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ALL ABOUT, CHARLIE BROWN

You will get zero spoilers from me regarding the EPL ! Well Jose is now the sacked one .. I think he got a raw deal there .. Player power is getting ridiculous now ... obscene money and it seems the club owners back them over the poor old manager .... Jose Morninall won the prem last season ... Gosh folk have short memories in this beautiful game ! Really happy Sepp and Michel are now history ... 8 years tho .. it should be life. My Candy Crush Saga FC are 2nd now and staring at the EPL half way thru the season ... but we've been known to bottle it before so er.... Not been checking the German leagues so no idea how your Dortmund are doing .. My fave team in Germany is FC Koln tho ... Here's a cool quiz for you .. have a look /go
