 | | kingscrusher: I'm going to have reread with great care my "World of Chess" book by Saidy and Lessing: p.17
"Musicians seem to have an affinity for chess: Mischa Ehlman, The Oistrakhs, Piatrigorsky, Richard Strauss and Profokiev - to say nothing of Mark Taimanov, a concert pianist, grandmatser and candidate for the world's championship Prokofiev called chess "a world of struggle, plans and passion." Oustanding among artists is Marchel Duchamp, equally famous among chess-players for his many contributions to the game, including designs for chess pieces, an unsurpassable pocket chess set, occasional writings (as his book on endings with Vitaly Halberstadt) and an unflagging interest and enthusiasm. Before making New York his permanent home, he played for the French Olympic team in Hamburg 1930, where he drew with American champion Frank Marshall, his 1/2 point enabling France to tie the match with the United States. Duchamp once said "All chess-players are artists". |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Tryfon> thanks so much for that- I did in fact sign up for facebook this morning but I'm just back from work now and I can't remember my sign in name or password. Luckily, there is still a link from my email I can use to recover the information. Once I get it up and running, I will try to add you as a friend and then go to all your facebook chess pages. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Tryfon> Aha- I just navigated directly to the <Duchamp Wall> and I was magically already signed in? Possibly this is what <Annie> meant by Facebook being evil? They better not start sending me Viagara ads and such. On the good news front, I just sent you an "add as friend request." My good friend <Travis Bickle> is also on facebook so I will try to add him next. Here is the Duchamp Documentary you posted for me on the Wall: <Duchamp: Life and Chess>

 | | kingscrusher: Jessica - cool! - I assume it would be good for me to video annotate the key draw vs Marshall which also helped France draw with the United States in the 1930 Olympiad. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Tryfon> great idea... You mean this game from <Hamburg Olympiad>-
Marshall vs Duchamp, 1930
In the book <Marcel Duchamp: The Art of Chess>, Jennifer Shahade annotates this game- she also annotates <Duchamp> vs. <Colle, Tartakower, and Menchik>. This book also includes two long essays discussing the relationship between Duchamp's art and his chess career. |

May-28-11 | | playground player: <Jessicafischerqueen> That would indeed be too bad if we finally heard from someone else in the universe and it turned out to be Nosferatu. Or any kind of horrible human-slaughtering monster, for that matter. Your videos are works of art! |
|
May-28-11
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <playground player> well at the end of that National Geographic documentary, we hear <Stephen Hawking> warning us that the Aliens might enslave us= if they behaved anything like humans. He cited the record of human contact between civilizations of superior technology with those of more primitive technology. However, <Stephen Hawking> didn't get where he is today by thinking Aliens are Vampires from German Expressionist films. |

Dion had loads of hits.
"I'm the type of guy who will never settle down.
Where pretty girls are well, you know that I'm around." Sounds like my autobiography.

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <falso contacto with aliens> No, no, the CHUPACABRA is not a goat. The current best guess is that he is related to <Cthlulu>, or possibly the old comic book character <Little Lulu>. YOU BE THE JUDGE:
