May-28-11 | | Boomie: <jessicafischerqueen: That <Smothered Mate Brothers> show looks like it was good.> The Smothers of Invention stretched the boundaries of what a variety show could do. They brought Pete Seeger back from the dead after he got blacklisted. They used every opportunity to criticize the war. Seeger sang Big Muddy on their show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXnJ... Eventually they were brought down by the sponsors but the show was wildly popular. |

Jess great short film! I loved the Danny DeVito and Droopy Dog references LOL!! P.S. I must say though you made 1 critical mistake. That wasn't Hamish Stewart from Average White Band, that was actually Robbie McIntosh from The Pretenders. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Now I finally have an excuse to make a documentary about <The Jersey Devil>. It's going to feature lots of haunting shots of the New Jersey Pine Barrens and plenty of douchebags with too much hair gel. I'm going to call it "Jersey Devil, Son" |

May-29-11 | | crawfb5: Ah, Paulie and Christopher wandering lost in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Tony tells Paulie the guy they've let escape "was with the interior ministry. He's some kind of Russian Green Beret." Paulie to Christopher: "You're not gonna believe this. The guy killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. He was an interior decorator." Christopher: "His house looked like [expletive]."
By far the funniest episode of the Sopranos.
HAHAHAHA |

May-29-11 | | playground player: <Jessicafischerqueen> My brother-in-law, Dr. Raymond Miller, is the co-author of two books about the Jersey Devil, one of which has been continuously in print for decades. He's been on George Noury's radio show. He's retired now, but if you'd like to pick his brain for your Jersey Devil video, let me know and maybe I can put you in touch with him. I have lived in NJ all my life, and I can tell you there sure are an awful lot of Jersey Devil stories. It always struck me as amazing that Jim McGreevy and the JD could be in different places at the same time. |

 | | Fusilli: <crawfb5> Yeah, that episode was good! The sixteen Chechenians became sixteen Czechoslovakians and I think later they become sixty Czechoslovakians. We expected the Russian to show up again at some point but he never did... The writers played that one very well. |

May-29-11 | | Boomie: Here's Rolling Stone"s list of the 100 best guitarists. In addition to technique, the player's influence on the art is important. Jeff Beck is 14th on the list. No prize for guessing who's first. A very nice review of Jimi by Pete Townsend. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/l... |

 | | OhioChessFan: Jeff Beck 14th? Ummmmmmmm.
On a related note, it's a foundational problem with music criticism that they equate "great" with "influential". Rolling Stone will list greatest albums of this and that decade and explain that they influenced so many people. Of course, the entire genre may be a pox on mankind, cough rap cough, but there will be the breathless reviews of the albums that led the way. |
|
May-30-11 | | Boomie: <Jessie Judge This!: <Bombadier> Jeff Beck should be higher I think.> All lists are bunk really. They put BB King and Robert Johnson in the top 10 because they inspired a lot of players. Just based on technique, Beck should be rated higher fer sure. I'm glad to see Ry Cooder in the top 10. I thought I was the only one who thought he was awesome. |
