<Hippy Nude Ear!> Er I think <BOOMIE> has infamously trademarked that idiom?

You should be careful, because I think he has retained the legal services of the notorious <hms123> who also used to do all my lawyering around here. He was good. Good and cheap.

He used to work for a few bottles of <Matted Elk Wine (now in gallon format)>.

You may remember his most famous case, the scandalous <Santa Claus> vs <The City of Nashville Public Library>.

<hms123> had had a little too much Matted Elk before work, and during his final summation he forgot which side he was arguing. When the judge threatened to disbar him for incompetence, he cried "Which bar? Dis bar? Lead the way!"

  Domdaniel: <Jess> "Screw Buddhists", eh?

My ex is now some kind of Buddhist priestess.

I must admit that the advice to 'screw Buddhists' is much the same as a suggestion to screw anyone else.

It's not as if Buddhists have anything up their, yanno, sleeves...

I even *studied* law, once upon a time. Don't recall anything, though.

Wait, there *is* one thing:

  jnpope: Merry Christmas.

Now on to history business... what is your source for the claim that Steinitz won a brilliancy prize for the game: Steinitz vs Mongredien, 1862

You make this claim in the comments and it also appears in your 2010 YouTube video on Steinitz (2:51 mark of part I).

I find no mention of such a prize being offered in any edition of Lowenthal's tournament book, nor in the German version by Suhle of the same tournament. Nor is there any mention of a brilliancy prize being offered (let alone of Steinitz winning such a prize) in the contemporary accounts found in the Chess Player's Chronicle, Illustrated London News, London Daily News, London Morning Post, London Era, or London Field. Nor is there any mention made of Steinitz winning such a prize in Landsberger's well-researched biography, "William Steinitz, Chess Champion".

A quick check of "brilliancy prize" in the "Oxford Companion To Chess", 1992 edition, p59, states: <The first brilliancy prize was given by the proprietor of the Cafe International, New York, where a tournament was held in September and October 1876.> Allegedly for the game: Bird vs J Mason, 1876

I've searched the 'net for how this claim about Steinitz v Mongredien being a brilliancy prize game got started and the earliest mention I've found so far is a page dated as Jul 8, 2007, by Bill Wall: https://www.chess.com/article/view/...

Sadly Bill doesn't cite any source for his claim, so I'm not sure if this is lore inserted by Mr. Wall or if he is passing along an error from an earlier source.

Basically, I'd like to confirm your source. If it was Wall I can prune my search tree, or if you have an earlier source than Wall I can add a new branch to my search tree. Thank you.

You're welcome to post as much music, footy, film and other stuff here as you want <Hozza> but stop mentioning <tbone> in your posts.

I can see you've been arguing with him and you'll not carry that over in here brah.

Not sure why you're not getting that message.

With respect to your trouble on other pages, have you considered switching to decaf?

You'll thank me later... lol

I didn't know the legendary <The Fall> were from Manchester as well. Seems all good English music is from Manchester? They are a band of substance to be sure.

Does this mean you're supporting <Man City> now.

I'm just on half time of <Arsenal v Everton> December 13, good match it is too, 1-1 so far.

It must have cheered you up to see <Foxes> spanked by <Bournemouth>? I like <Bournemouth> a lot, largely due to <Jack Wilshere's> return to both fitness and form. Isn't he still owned by <Arsenal>? Will they ever set him free?

QUESTION: Why does the EPL allow "slavery" as an acceptable business practice.
