<THE REVENGE OF MARTINEZ (1953)>

What a classic film, out of the ill-starred Ted Turner network if I'm not mistaken.

Starring <Arriba!>, with a special appearance by <hms123> as a travelling <Matted Elk> salesman who does a bit of "lawyering" in his spare time.

Based (very loosely) on the notorious <Nashville Public Library vs Santa Claus> case, in which <hms123> famously forgot, during his summation, which side of the case he was arguing.

Like the whimsical ocelot, well spotted, my dear <Teem>.

Well spotted.

I wish somebody would tell me what "Diddy Wah Diddy" means.

Wonderful recording of an extraordinarily influential and adept musician. I love the pictures on this vid.

The great Ry Cooder's version with Fatha Hines on piano.

<Teem> Wonderful American roots music by Arthur "Blind" Blake; I never heard that before. I wonder if that comes from the "Liberry of Congress Archive of American Folk Music." It's in the public domain and anyone can listen to any of it for free. It includes folk, blue, jazz from the dawn of American popular music.

I know full well how much you love Ry Cooder! You didn't get where you are today by forgetting about Ry Cooder.

I was going to reply with something in kind, but decided to go for the most opposite kind of fare imaginable: German Romanticism for the modern film age-

Here is some German hippy music from the legendary Popol Vu. It's called Letzte Tage, Letzte Nachte, which I believe translates loosely to "Naughty Heidi."

Jan-22-17  Boomie: <Jess Sayin': Wonderful American roots music by Arthur "Blind" Blake; I never heard that before.>

Sadly, I'd never heard of Blake before either. His guitar playing is masterful. In fact, nobody has really equaled his performance on this song. It's wonderful.

I was looking for the meaning of Diddy Wah Diddy and decided to go to the source for answers. Lucky find.

Jan-22-17  Boomie: <Jessie Joe: I wonder if that comes from the "Liberry of Congress Archive of American Folk Music.">

Nope. Blake made numerous successful recordings for Paramount from 1926-1932 when Paramount went bankrupt (until Mae West arrived to save them).

Jan-22-17  Boomie: <Jess Au Belle>

Sorry about going on and on about this Blake fellow but I can't get his music out of my pointy lil haid.

Guitarists seem struck dumb in awe of Blake's talent. Here is Ry Cooder trying to describe Blake.

"Blind Blake is a great player, a great musical figure. In the years where he was on top, he was fabulous. Blind Blake just had a good touch. He played quietly, and he didn't hit the guitar too hard. He had a nice feeling for syncopation. He's from down there in the Geechie country, and all those people have a real nice roll to what they do. He was a hell of a good player, and he had a lick that was great. And Blind Blake played all over the place, with all kinds of people, including Johnny Dodds, which is just way too much for me."

Been a while since I've been down in Geechie country. I have no clue where that is...heh. I Gargled it to find out that Geechie country is where the Gullah culture lives. It's along the coast of South Carolina and Georgia and on the islands off the coast.

The Cooder quote is from this rather nice site - http://www.gracyk.com/blake1.shtml

Jan-27-17  Boomie: So now they want to wall off Mexico. But what about the great Northern menace? Hordes of Canadians in long johns and back bacon are storming our borders. Make no mistake, they mean to take our jobs and our beer.

Isn't pinching Canadians risky? Or risque?

Yes because someone might misread it and resort to punching. That may be a more effective method of protecting our borders, however.
