Domdaniel: <Jess> He whom you call 'Der Bingle' was originally one of two brothers, Bing and Bo, who were found one cold winter night (aaah) and subsequently lost again (oooh!)

Later, blue with cold, they were discovered in the sleeves of a cardigan by a certain King Ring and his uncommon-law wife, Ming, and given the names Bing Ring and Bo Ring ... Lords of the Fringe.

Bo, wearing a sling, challenged Sting to a motorbike duel - "Oh Sting" he yelled, "where is thy death?"

But Bo lost, and Bing chose a safer route to world domination.

Domdaniel: <Paint My Dragon> - A bit late, this, but never mind. Many years ago I shared a flat with a member of the Virgin Prunes, then an acclaimed avant-punk band. Later incarnations included Princess Tinymeat.

My flatmate, DF, was a Genesis fan. I persuaded him to listen to John Cale and Jethro Tull.

There were many more interconnections between prog and punk than is commonly understood.

Domdaniel: <'arry> - <I survived on their stuff in the 90's>

Gotcha, 'arry. So if we go back in time and wipe them out, you won't survive?

That's worth trying.

Jan-05-18  Paint My Dragon: <Dom> A trip down memory lane for me. I had a mate who lived next to our secondary school, so when most kids were tucking into their school dinners, he and I would go to his house and drink his Dad's whiskey, while listening to his brother's <Jethro Tull> albums. Golden days.

Raking through record store racks in the eighties, <Virgin Prunes> were often in my eyeline, but probably for alphabetical reasons only - I spent an unreasonable amount of time browsing the 'W' section. Not sure if I ever heard them, but always imagined, rightly or wrongly, that they were something akin to <Bauhaus>.

To your wider point, music genres are very much an artificial construct, and pay little heed to this interconnection, or crossover you speak of. <Genesis> were unique in a number of ways, yet their roots were still firmly planted in rock. Similarly, the creativity and individuality that sprang from punk and post-punk probably weren't well served by the all-inclusive 'indie' tag. Writers and performers have such diverse influences and output. I was fond of the <Comsat Angels> back then, and still can't decide whether I'd call them indie or rock; very much a blend of the two. How about The <Cocteau Twins> or <Dead Can Dance>? Indie? Goth Rock? Ethereal? 4AD? Hard to stick a sensible label on them.

Jan-05-18  Paint My Dragon: <Dom> I also meant to say ... it's easy to see how your flatmate could become a Tull convert. Anderson and Gabriel were supremely playful lyricists and vocalists, both flautists, and neither was a stranger to the never-ending, themed song or album!

<Paint My Dragon>

Hello! I reposted your fine posts to <Dom> over in the Kibbutzers Kafe.

Might I suggest you open your own forum, maybe support the site with a premium membership?

<Dom> and all discussion of <Dom> will no longer take place in this forum, due to his repeated refusal to accommodate my wish there be no fighting, no personal attacks or uncivil insults against other visitors here. I'm not talking about joshing around, I'm talking about actual insults and I BLOODY WELL KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.

<Dom> has made it abundantly clear that he lacks the basic respect for me to acknowledge this one condition that must be obeyed to post in my forum.

He will not be posting in my forum from today until the indefinite future, gusting up to infinity.

I have no wish to read any responses to what he may have previously written here, so please address any answers to him over in his forum.

I will be super busy at work for a further two weeks and a bit, so it will be unlikely I'll have time to answer any past or future posts in here before I have finished this work.

I look forward to resuming our discussions at this later date.

In the mean time, I will be reading posts in my forum during this time. If I see any insults or attacks against fellow visitors by <anyone>, those posts will be deleted and those posters will no longer be posting in here.

I have asked people very nicely, many times, over a long period of time to refrain from fighting in here.

No more. Just deletion and banishment, with no comment or explanation, from this point on.

None of this is even vaguely directed at you, my dear <Dragon>. I've never seen you attack/insult another member anywhere, let alone in my forum.

##########

Finally-

<Harry Lime> Just one more time, mate. One more mean spirited personal attack against <Dom>, <Travis>, <O'Boogie>, <me>, or anyone else in my forum and you will never post here again.

You and <Dom> can insult each other to the cows go home on some other page, but if you ever do that again in my house that's it- forever. No more suspensions, no more second/third/fourth/fifth chances.

You've had many more warnings about this than anyone else, and there will be no further warnings. Just action.

THIS IS MY HOUSE AND THERE WILL BE NO FCKN FIGHTING OR ATTACKS AGAINST OTHER PEOPLE IN HERE.

IS THAT FCKN CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU.

Jan-05-18  harrylime: Yo <Jezza> !

Happy New year .. hope ALL well with you and your family.

Check Ooot this movie I watched last nite .. it is so funny ! Imagine Tarantino meets Leone with a bit of Michael Mann thrown in !
