jessicafischerqueen: Your over there regimen sounds salubrious! Interestingly, in Canada we save time by spelling "music and poker" as "moker." Initially we spelled it "poomus" but that sounded a little too declasse, even for us...

Jun-24-11  playground player: <crawfb5>, <Phony Benoni> Thanks for the info on Barnes. No autopsy having been allowed, I suppose we'll never know exactly what happened to him.

By today's standards 224 pounds wouldn't be considered morbidly obese. Depending on the man's height, it might not even raise an eyebrow.

Mike Huckabee says he lost 110 pounds in 2003. I don't know what he weighs now, but I'll bet in his heyday he weighed a lot more than 224! But the point is, obviously Huckabee, whose weight loss is comparable to Barnes', didn't have stomach cancer--just a big appetite.

Guess we'll never know... I did suspect some crazy Victorian quack diet, but "banting" doesn't sound particularly loopy.

Phony Benoni: <playground player> Frankly, that Wikipedia article about Banting doesn't sound very objective, but something prepared by a present-day advocate. Still, it doesn't sound like a particularly dangerous diet, even if it was propounded by an undertaker.
Jun-24-11  cormier: David DeLucia released three of the game scores last year (why not the other seven?) of fisher-gligoric training games?
Jun-24-11  TheFocus: <cormier> Maybe in his next book he will.

jessicafischerqueen: <T-Bone> what remarkable Jazz-Rock fusion from Jeff Beck, thank you. Who is the drummer? He's stellar!

It's very "phat" sound too, very full and the mix is flawless, from the fifth Beatle.

<fab> good call on Exile on Main street. I also rank it number one of Rolling Stones records. Recorded in Keith Richards' house in southern France, I think.

Did you know that the lads worked when they worked? They didn't have an orgy in southern France. They worked on that record, they did a lot of work on that record.

Possibly they had the orgy after.

Jun-25-11  Travis Bickle: <jessicafischerqueen> Jess the drummer on Becks album Blow By Blow was a guy named Richard Bailey. On Keyboards was Max Middleton, except on the track Thelonious which was played by Stevie Wonder. Thanks Wikipedia! ; P

Did not know if you knew. I won my last two tournaments. (Clear first in both.) Went 5-0 in Birmingham. Went 3.5 out of four in Mobile yesterday. (Drew Tillis, USCF 2158)

Two more trophies for my collection. My daughter Ailene suggested a picture for my website, try to take that and then post it. (She wants me to hold my two trophies, and wear one of the cool t-shirts I got for Father's Day.)

LIFE Master AJ: You were - AS USUAL - 100% correct. (I think you are starting to scare me just a little.)

A student sent me a list of quotes by this "shivashuri" fellow. He is quick to point out things I said, things other people said. All the while pretending to be innocent.

This reminds me of a case my partner on the Albuqurque Police Department solved when I was there. (I was stationed there for 5 years, I was in the APD Auxilary.)

Lots of fires. Obviously the work of an arsonist. One day, Jim throws the cuffs on the guy, he was the one who pointed the Fire Department to the fire. (He covertly tested his clothing for the presence of gasoline and other flammable agents.) I was totally shocked, never saw it coming, the guy looked like a sweet, old man. Always led the Fire Department directly to the scene.

Turned out that he had set many, many fires ... there was a very good reason why he was always there, always the first to call the police, always the first to point us in the right direction ...

jessicafischerqueen: <TheFocus> yes I love Sosonko too, and he always includes such great rare photos.

Happily, I also have the Russian versions of his books as well, and they include different photos!! Some are repeated, but many, many others are not.

Thank GHOD for Russian publishers.
