We'll always have Revelstoke.

Jul-04-20  thegoodanarchist: Darn it. I had something chess-related to post here. About an opening.

And then I saw <Phony Benoni>'s pun on the home page, got distracted, and forgot what it was.

Anyway, it was slightly educational about chess openings, so just pretend you learned something.

I expected nothing less! (or maybe I forgot what I expected :)

Jul-05-20  Cibator: Can't make my mind up among:

(a) some posts have unaccountably dropped off this thread, taking with them the links that enable it to make sense;

(b) there's some secret code in use here that I don't have the key to;

(c) everyone posting here is out of their tree on something;

(d) it's deliberate policy that nothing on the thread ever SHOULD make sense.

Whatever may be the case, the thread motto is obviously: "We know that you believe you understand what you think we said, but we are not sure you realise that what you heard is not what we meant."

PS: <JFQ>: Lake Woebegone? You a Garris & Keeler fan??

You better believe I'm a Garrison Keeler fan.

No posts have dropped off in here. I don't remember the last time I deleted a post from my forum. The admins never bother to come here either so I doubt they deleted anything.

Protip: how to keep the admins from snooping in your forum.

You see, if you follow a "sensitive material post" (if you catch my drift) with an innocuous name of a city, then the sensitive material will not show up on the list of kibbutzes on the <chessforums> page.

<DomDaniel> and <Boomie> and I did this for years. It never fails!

<Cibator> There is a secret code in here, but only <Boomie> has the decipher key. You can see how well *that's* worked out amirite.

<Boomie> also has the only keys to the <ChessBookForum> and the <WorldChessChampionship> project forum. I long ago forgot the passwords to both, but <Boomie> never forgets. Ever.

There is nothing resembling a deliberate policy in here.

I didn't get where I am today without ignoring deliberate policy.

This scientific video I made for my friend <playground player> will help explain:

I didn't get where I am today by saying "I didn't get where I am today."

That's Jessie's point. (Jessie don't surf, soldier!)

<Tim> JINX in fact I came here a few minutes ago to address an important chess question to none other than yourself.

I have discovered (stolen) 3 (three) new (actually rather old) John Pamiljens games and his bio page was empty, so I'm trying to write something about him before uploading them. I found a few bits of his story in <Val Zemitis'> Encyclopedia of Latvian Chessplayers Vol.II, but it's not much eh.

If I dismember correctly, you knew Master Pamiljens?

Can you tell me anything about him I can put in his bio?

Anecdotes would be wonderful.

Jul-05-20  Boomie: <Jess: Master Pamiljens>

Nope. Pupols was the only Latvian I met.

Jul-05-20  thegoodanarchist: < jessicafischerqueen: <Tim> This forum is srsly bidness!

As you know all too well, "bidness take care a bidness.">

That reminds me of the great state of Texas, where the most important "bidness" is "Thawl Bidness". Black Gold. Texas Tea.

But with the pandemic and working from home, <Thawl Bidness> ain't as profitable as it once was.

<The Southern Anteater>

I had no idea you Texans were working from home in the thawl bidness!

In BC we didn't get where we are today by installing oil derricks in our houses.

Possibly because there is no oil here.

<Tim> ok, but I just found another <Janis Pajamas> game in chessbase and guess who he played!

Yes, he played <Yaz>.

So by the "degrees of separation" sciencing formula (invented by Will Smith in a movie), you *did* know <Master Pajamas>!

Respeck.

<Tim> I figured you secretly wanted to see a sneak preview of the tussle. This is a preliminary pgn with "nickname tags" for your consideration:

[Event "US cf Open"]
[Site "Columbus USA"]
[Date "1978.??.??"]
[Round "?"]
[Result "0-1"]
[White "John Pajamas"]
[Black "Yaz"]
[Source "chessbase"]

1.d4 g6 2.e4 Bg7 3.Nf3 d6 4.c4 Bg4 5.Be2 Nc6 6.Be3 e5 7.d5 Bxf3 8.Bxf3 Nd4 9.Nc3 c5 10.Rb1 Ne7 11.g4 0-0 12.h4 a6 13.h5 b5 14.Be2 Rb8 15.cxb5 axb5 16.Qd2 b4 17.Nd1 Ra8 18.Bh6 Rxa2 19.Bxg7 Kxg7 20.hxg6 Nxh6 21.Qh6+ Kf6 22.Bc4 23.Rh5 Qa5+ 24.Kf1 Ke7 25.Qg5+ Ke8 26.Qf6 Ra1 27.Rxa1 Qxa1 28.Ke1 Qc1 29.Be2 Nxe2 30.Qxd6 Nd4 31.Qb8+ Ke7 32.Qc7+ Kf6 33.Qd6+ Kg7 34.g5 Nc2+ 0-1

-----------

I case you're a bit confused, I can offer the cipher key:

Whilst he played in Latvia, white was <Janis Pajamas>, but when he emigrated to the Excited States he became <John Pajamas>.

The black player <Yaz> is not to be confused with the MLB hall of famer <Carl Yastremski>. Although they do have the exact same nickname.

Easy mistake!

You'll thank me later...

LOL, it's not "the thawl bidness" because that translates into "the the oil business" in the King's English.
