heh that is an all-star pun eh.

I haven't seen one that fierce since the 2nd Punic War.

<Tim> Trust Weird Al to bring some much needed sanity to a bizarre spectacle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un9...

As always, with humans the more insane the commentary, the more accurate.

This should be required viewing for all, particularly those who forget there used to be a "democratic republican" party.

Humor is the gateway to compromise and civility.

Weird Al brings us to the place where we remember that we are all in the same boat, and that the acknowledgment of the humanity of each other is necessary to sail her.

Oct-14-20  Paint My Dragon: <Cherry-coloured funkster>

Yeah ... all these years on and I'm still addicted to The Cocteaus and Dead Can Dance. Ivo was probably THE standout music visionary of the eighties, yet it felt like Tony Wilson and Factory/Hacienda got far more media recognition. Heavier on the drama and heartbreak I suppose.

I'm still amused at how Liz did her lyrics ... basically flicking through foreign language books and picking out nice sounding words that could be jumbled up in a heavenly, nonsensical way.

As you say, sublime weirdo.

<Paint Box Set>

Thing about <Ivo> was he was amazing at selecting acts- transatlantic/trans Indian Ocean as well as home grown. Who could ever guess that the same man would sign <Nick Cave and the Birthday Party> and <Tanya Donnely/Kristen Hirsch> on the same label?

Other thing about <Ivo> was his heavy hand on the sound production front when he had the wherewithal to do so- before an act became big enough to say no to him, <Cocteau Twins> in particular. Not to say he made bad decisions, far from it. It was his idea to pair <Liz> up with a dictionary and help develop phonetic, rather than semantic lyrics.

Soon though <Cocteau Twins> grew out of his control and they benefited greatly from the freedom.

They more or less did what they wanted and they spared no experiment, no matter how incongruous. Peppering tracks with <John Bonham> drum samples, for example, which proved one of <Guthrie's> most fruitful notions- and a principal ingredient to the uniqueness of <Treasure>, one of their very best outings.

Led Zeppelin meets a dictionary and many fuzz effects: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cu2...

Oct-15-20  Paint My Dragon: <Pandora>

Absolutely. They needed the room to breathe and explore.

The fights used to scare me … the differences with 4AD, the love/hate relationship between Fraser and Guthrie. Whenever I read interviews, I would come away pinning all my hopes on <Simon Raymonde>’s wonderful calming influence. He seemed so grateful to be there, providing the glue that held them together. Thankfully, it worked long enough for me to finally see them live, quite late in their career – I think the Four Calendar Café Tour.

It feels like it was 4AD who spawned the term ‘ethereal' in the context of modern music. Or was Kate Bush previously described that way? … my memory dims.

Speaking of 4AD diversity, did you ever connect with <Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares>? That swept us all away at college, and oddly, it was the album that a girlfriend of mine took with her when we split. Along with some of my least favourite jumpers. I had to admire her eclectic thieving choices.

Lush, Pixies, Throwing Muses, Modern English … I loved them all, but CT and DCD are, with José, the special ones.

<Paint your own Wagon>

I'm watching the end of <Thomas Edison Cavani> make his debut for Reds in a rain storm and this can only be a plus for your side?

I always liked him. He's particularly fierce in Uruguay internationals. I saw him in a few of those matches and he was often the best man on the pitch for either side.

<QUESTION> Are there serious doubts about <Holly Golly Salt Shaker> and <The Special Bun>?

Half the time I see them I think "If I were the owner I'd fire them right after the game was over."

<Jose Merano 1926> in particular. In the last match I saw vs <Shawn Ditch's> lads he was just sat there glowering. No running up and down the pitch yelling at the officials.

Worse, he looked like a bum. Half shaven with this bizarre frumpy outfit, sporting a pair of shoes so bizarre that the commentators couldn't help but point them out and laugh.

I had already been asking myself "What kind of grown man wears a pair of shoes like that to work."

Have you seen many of the matches this past month? I actually watched a fair bit of footy.

I watched the Chelsea "Kraut Konnection" destroying <Southampton> single handed, but today vs Reds they failed to fire and have been taken off in the 2nd half.

Did you see the goals <Timo Werner Klemperer> scored the other day, he looked like <George Best>:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-q...

None of that today vs your lads though which is just as well amirite.

Here is some very rare home footage of <Timo Werner Klemperer> chatting with his bird on the "Long distance telephone machine":

<The Special Bun> is Gareth Bale, no? For sure, I've not witnessed a grander looking bun in the history of footy.

Aye, some decent football on offer this past week. Werner does look a good candidate for best new EPL player, and the <George Best> comparison is not an outrageous one, based on that match. Sadly, the second link you sent didn’t impress my temperamental silicon monster, unless a tiny silhouette of mountains and moon was your intended message!

Already a strange season. Leeds showing some early promise. In fact a lot of the ‘unexpecteds’ have come out fighting, including Villa and West Ham. 'Come on the claret and blues' – err, not you Burnley!

Well, I’m certainly stoked about Spurs’ recent signings. This is now a squad that can go places, no doubt about it. Whether Hozay is the right person to make it happen, only time will tell. He did manage to work some minor miracles at ManU, despite having a mediocre squad, so I wouldn’t write him off now that the Harry Hotspurs have, for once, splashed out wisely.

Hojbjerg was a terrific acquisition, and the other new boys <Surge-i-o Regulation> and <Vicious Junior> really shone in that LASK game. LASK may have been fairly poor, but it was a rousing display. It also feels like Moura is playing better, and Kane and Son have been superb in the EPL games.

The dodgy footwear may have passed me by, but I did develop some extra love for Hozay when he said this recently on Sky Sports: “… It’s a club I feel connection with beacause of Mr Robson, it’s as simple as that. He had a huge passion for Newcastle and his area, Durham. He had it in his heart. So, through him I’ve become a little magpie.”

Top man! Of course the sceptic in me thinks that he may just be laying some foundations in case things go pear-shaped at WHL. Lol.
