<Tim> Do you mean <Harry S Truman> the President who infamously (and perhaps apocryphally) said "If you can't stand the heat get the hell out of Nagasaki"? I read that in a Doonesbury strip so you really can't go my me. I suspect you refer to the <Harry S Truman> (real name) who refused to leave Mount St. Helen's and then got blown up? In British Columbia, this is how we spell "Hawaii": <Hay-on-Wye> |

Jan-20-21 | | Boomie: <jessicafischerqueen: Do you mean <Harry S Truman>> Yes, indeedy. The Harriest of all president. The one who said "The buck stops here." I don't know where the doe stops but probably nearby I'd wager. |

<Tim> "Minnehaha" lol I got that one, very nice... Do you remember this hit, full of douchbaggery, but I still like it: LIFE IS A HAY-ON-WYETHA, I WANT RIDE IT, ALL NIGHT LONG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3s... He's not really talking about a "highway", if you catch my drift... |

 | | MissScarlett: Quit changing Sultan Khan's simul games to read <London Simul xb>, rendering the location tag superfluous. And convention demands a comma between Simul and the number of boards; thus <Simul, 35b>. |

Jan-27-21 | | Cibator: Once upon a time there used to be this sign hung outside The Lane: "Battling relegation? Having a horror run in the league? Need to get to the next FA Cup round? Spurs'll help you!!" The most charitable side in the top flight, that was <The Percys>. That was then, this is now, although occasional hand-outs still take place (remember Colchester, last year). And I'm still faintly surprised they didn't gift <The Blades> at least a point last week. All the same, I reckon they'll flub this upcoming one against <The Stink>*. All the signs are there. The run of opponents' dreadful results bound to come to an end, the recent history of must-wins being no-wins .... So-o-oh: either total domination by the Reds and a 2-3 goal margin, or else an even game crowned by the inevitable last-minute soft-goal decider. * Liverpool altered to Liverpooh, then shortened ... geddit? |

Feb-05-21 | | Boomie: <jessicafischerqueen> I just noticed that the terns are not around on Fridays. I was at sea on this one. Suddenly I remembered. Friday is gulls' night out. |

<Teem> heh... Reminds me of the iconic <Peter Green> instrumental "Albatross." In the search for the gull to pose for the cover art, no tern was left unstoned... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAe... |

There be eagles here!
When the wind is up, they soar above the shoreline looking for appetizers to take back to their aeries. One funny aspect is when they come too close to the tree line. Then the local birds swarm them and harass them to drive them away. Although they are powerful, eagles are slow fliers. Even the crows fly circles around them and peck at their tail feathers. I've heard that the largest population of eagles is in our own back yard. They seem to prefer the variety offered by the lakes and ocean environments. |

<Tim> "The Eagling" Nothing could be more auspicious than the return of the Ocean Going Puyallup Great Eagle. They can be seen all around our waterways here on the SALISH SEA as well. My brother in law assures me they sit on top of the firs and spot the tasty fish from over 50 thousand meters and dive for them. MAGNIFICENT |
|
Feb-07-21 | | Boomie: <JessEagle>
Indeed. The sight of this ravenous raptor soaring above the Puyallup flood plain is an inspiration to us all. Of what, I don't know, but it is inspiring, eh? |
|
Feb-08-21
 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Tim> We should be proud it was environmental movements in our necks of the woods who successfully lobbied to end DDT, which had almost wiped out our eagles. The Pacific Northwest has long been home to the MAJESTIC BALD EAGLE, and we'd like to keep it that way. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Tim> Did you know that the "seagull" was originally named the "Seagle"? They had to change their name after a successful copyright infringement suit by the eagles. IT'S A FACT |

A great deal of gratitude goes to Rachel Carson for "The Silent Spring". Naturally, she is from Puyallup but in her bio they misspell it as "Pennsylvania". Go figure. |
