Interesting selection <Canyonero>!

Reminds me a bit of <Kate Bush>, another favorite of mine.

I never heard of <Laura Pavey> before.

Who knew?

That article is based on misinformation, which I understand was your purpose in posting the link.

The banning of DDT didn't "cause" millions of deaths, though it certainly would have if alternative pesticides hadn't quickly been put in to play.

Pesticides are necessary to human populations because of insect-related disease, and the need to protect the food supply from insect predation.

What did happen was that new and safer pesticides were quickly produced that caused less collateral damage to the biosphere. Today, this remains an ongoing process and challenge- to come up with alternative pesticides that have less negative impact on the biosphere.

The banning of DDT saved several avian apex predators from imminent extinction.

One of the reasons the alarm on DDT caught the American public's interest the way it did was because the symbol of America - the bald eagle - was about to go extinct.

DDT in their food chain caused their eggs to become so brittle that they began breaking before new chicks could hatch.

<Hozza> you can post whatever you want in here as often as you want.

So can <Mizza> since I already read all <HozzaMizza> posts to begin with.

Interestingly, internet cranks over on the <Hozza> sub-reddit have launched a theory that you and <Mizza> are the same person!

This has nothing to do with me eh. I tried to join reddit so I could spread fake news but they banned me after my first "trial post". What a bunch of dinks eh.

The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers have a motto which shines an optimistic light on our current predicament.

"It is better to have dope in times of no money than to have money in times of no dope."

BTW - Did you know that Dom was one of the Freak Brothers. It's a fact! Here's scienterrific evidence.

harrylime: Yo <Jezza> hope you're ok? You've gone AWOL from the Chess Cafe. Your posts and chess history quizes on there were a warm Provencal breeze thru a choppy sea of grey turgid flotsam! And they are missed.

So hope you're ok and here's a few notes from me to yoooooooooooooooooooooooze. Loike.

1. DCFC are garbage! We will be lucky to stay up. I think we will. But it's gonna be a close call. No blame attatched to Wazza here, there are deep subliminal issues and problems with the club itself just now . I think the term BASKETCASE CLUB is on the money with DCFC . We neeeeeeeeed a sugar daddy/dirty oil money ! lol lol ... Still ... I'm so flattered and happy you've been watching our games. Just wondering if this has affected you tho ! lol lol

2. Spurs. It seems Jose Moaniho is turning it around . A little. Bale finding his brain must have something to do with this lol .. Here's a great iconic Spurs v West Ham game from I think 1971... some great names in this match! ... https://youtu.be/G3NcdLC3umI

3. Robert Fischer. I'm going thru a bit of a Bobby phase again ! lol .. anyway here's a few things ..

The new book by Donaldson .. Bobby Fischer and his World... I've ordered. Looks essential reading. Don't know if you've heard of it ??

What are your fave Fischer games <Jess> ?

I've just come across this translation of Spassky's Soviet mental health advisors book on the 72 match .. Krogius lol .. it's a fascinating read, but obviously mega biased towards the Commie view .. Fischer never won games, Boris made mistakes ect ect lol lol

https://www.chess.com/blog/Spektrow...

Also re Bobby, the Chess Hall of fame is worth checking out. A super site. I've never seen David Bronstein with hair lol lol .. but I have now ! lol lol

https://worldchesshof.org/chess-hal...

4. Footy. What do you think of Parachute payments? And the handball penalty muddle? And VAR? And corrupt refs? Schite refs? Rangers ? Klopp losing the plot ?

5. Movies . Did you ever check out the film "The Frame" ?

Other movies worth checking out

In order of the disappeared ( Nordic Noir)
Headhunters ( Nordic Noir)
71 ( Derby fan Jack O connell namechecks Derby/Forest in this. lol .. itz a cool film) Moonlight
The last Black Man in San Francisco
Carlos
The Devines

I'll leave it here .. loads more ...

Anyway no idea when you'll read this but hope you're well... don't be put off by my posts in the cafe. They are garbage mostly ! lol lol

Thanks so much <Hozza>.

I am back today- some bad news on the home front required all hands on deck, but I believe it will be sorted out in the near future.

I will be even more back soon... for now, I also think Parachute money is terrible for English footy. It makes a mockery of the Championship League. That League should always feature as even a playing field as possible.

Mar-20-21  Paint My Dragon: <JFQ: ... some bad news on the home front required all hands on deck ...>

My energies have also been diverted ... I hate it when the real world interrupts my virtual world, but it happens.

Keep taking the tablets and dreaming of chess and footy appears to be the best advice.

Hopefully back in the not too distant future.

Best wishes for now.

harrylime: Hey no probs <<Jezza>> and hope all ok with you ? Your chess historical knowledge is sorely missed ..

Since I last posted things ALL DCFC have only got worse .. I've sensed it for a while. League One would be a disaster lol lol .. Can Wazza keep us up ??

Mar-31-21  Cibator: Like <PMD> and <JFQ> I'm still very much in the world, just not the cyberworld so often lately. Many ta's to <Hazza> for keeping the page "live".

I hope all will be well with your family as well. My mother had a stroke earlier this month and I am quite busy looking after her these days. Seems to be recovering though.
