Aug-16-11 | | fab4: Just passing by and saying 'ello, as I already wrote.. But just wondering.. just wondering .. If this is the greatest song ever written? Or... the most beautiful ? http://youtu.be/rIDeK7bVfUk
Well .. ok I'm listening to it right now lol
But my question remains .. Just how gorgeous is this song ? How emotional ? How real and how now ? |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <fab> the song's bona fide, no doubt. Not fake at all. It's good on first listen for sure, never heard it so thanks for showing it to me. As for greatest song or most beautiful song ever written, I don't think a song with a funk rhythm could ever be that. Except if it was written by <Sly and the Family Stone> maybe. Sometimes I think "Everyday People" is the greatest song ever written. But there's just too many to choose from to single just one out. Here's one way to test for yourself- If you had to listen to a song on a loop nonstop for the rest of your life, is there one that wouldn't drive you insane? That might be the greatest song ever written- for you. That's one of the reasons I like Prog Rock, the songs are long long long with complex time signatures, instrumentation and such. Kind of like classical music for duffers.
For me, the greatest song ever written might be <Supper's Ready> by Genesis, clocking in at around 22 minutes. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Tim> well I'm not a fan of George Burns but yes Gracie is good- she's the only reason to watch that act. For ancient history, I prefer Honeymooners or Sgt. Bilko. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <ProjectR> Thanks very much for taking the time to drop by with such an encouraging comment. I'm interested in Kasparov's story too, but the thing is I'm hesitant to do a documentary on someone who is still alive. I'd need a preferably live interview to do that, and I have zero budget, not to mention which the odds of a master granting me a live interview are around ZERO. In addition, I'd have to ask permission to do such a documentary, and good luck even contacting a world champion, let alone actually getting permission. Finally, I'm not going to work six months on something that could be struck off youtube at the whim of the documentary subject. Say I did one on Kasparov, if he didn't like it he could just mention that to youtube and they would delete it. So for now I'm sticking to deceased masters. |

Aug-16-11 | | fab4: Hey Jess I can listen to 'Band of Gold' forever.. relentless and never get tired . It Always touches and affects me.. Just feel this is such a gorgeous and beautiful song which touches most lives.. It's all subjectivity I know.
I adore Sly Stone BTW .. Rate him very highly.
I will have a listen to your Genesis track .. and thanks for putting it up.. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <fab> here is a video I made for Travis a while ago- it features only the opening and closing sequences of <Supper's Ready>, sung by Peter Gabriel live in 1972. It's an allegory- Pete compares his love for his wife with God's love for mankind. Pete's return to his wife after endless touring is compared to the return of Christ at the Apocalypse. "We'll finally be free to get back home
There's an Angel standing in the sun,
And he's crying with a loud voice
'This is the supper of the Mighty One'
Lord of Lords, King of Kings
Has returned to lead his children home,
To take them to the New Jerusalem"

Aug-16-11 | | Boomie: <jessicafischerqueen: <Tim> well I'm not a fan of George Burns but yes Gracie is good- she's the only reason to watch that act.> Burns was well aware he was the second wheel. He said the secret to success in show business was: "First you have to have a talent. You have to develop this talent. Then you have to marry her like I did! " |

And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks

 | | LIFE Master AJ: Wednesday; August 17th, 2011.
I e-mailed a friend. I told him I was playing the computer a ton of games. At one point I was down to 1300+. I told him I would beat the computer down, he said: "No way!" (Too hard, the computer almost never blunders.) Proud to report my rating is over 1600, the computer has been knocked down BELOW 1600. In a weird way, its fun to play the computer. This program ALWAYS plays to mate ... at THREE MINUTES (no increment) you have to be quick, I have lost a ton of games on time. You also get to hone your mating skills, most people resign before you get there. [Around 30-50 times, I was winning easily, in many of these the computer ONLY had just a (naked) King, yet still scored the game as a FULL POINT win (with rating changes); even though this is illegal according to the rules of chess.] Last game, I got to do something I had been trying FOREVER to do ... but without success. (Make a King move that gives mate.) Sound impossible?
Take a look at this position!

White played 53.Kh1. Then I smiled, savored the position for about 30 (or so) seconds, and played: 53...KxP/f2#. Here is the final position:

 | | LIFE Master AJ: Two more things:
#1.) The nice thing about the computer is that nobody gets their feelings hurt when it loses. #2.) Have you ever seen any problems in retrograde analysis? Its very hard, I used to have 2-3 books full of these type of problems ... The ONLY possible last move for Black HAD to have been moving the BK to f2 ... either capturing a piece there, or simply moving to an empty square. WHY??? If not, then White's King was already in the corner, my King was already on f2, and the BQ was already on e5. But this would mean that either Black cheated and made two moves in a row; (The WK would have had no legal move the last move, as soon as I had played ...Kf2; this would have created a stalemate.) Do you follow this? Have you ever seen any problems of retrograde analysis? The few that I remeber required a genius IQ (or a compter) to solve them. |
|
Aug-17-11
 | | jessicafischerqueen: I do indeed understand your example of retrograde analysis <AJ>. It's a nice one too- coming from the game as it does. I've never checkmated with a King move in my life, very aesthetic. <AJ> last year or maybe two years ago several of my friends here were doing some retrograde puzzles and I think they were even composing some? I find it impossible to do myself, but I think they were quite skilled at it. A few of them were also playing blindfold chess against a computer program. <Woody Wood Pusher> and <hms123> were involved, I think, but I can't remember the exact times, names and activities. Maybe <fusilli> too, and I think <Domdaniel> has done work in retrograde analysis. |

<im interested in Kasparovs story too,but the thing is im hesitant to do a documentary on someone who is still alive> It just so happens that there's a few people who post on the fischer page who are so fanatical about mr fischer being the greatest ever chess player, they may be willing to fix that for you !
I joke of course, but thats a shame you wont make documentarys on the living greats as im sure you'd do a great job.
If Kasparov were to die, wouldn't his wife or family be able to pull the plug on any documentary you were to make if they personally didn't like it anyway, just like you said Kasparov could ? |
|
Aug-17-11
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <ProjectR> maybe so. Luckily so far the only family members ever to contact me about any documentary I made were the surviving members of the Rubinstein family in Belgium, and they were very kind. You've reminded me of something sad- who is left to fight for Bobby's legacy? <PR> as well, I don't like to visit Bobby and Garry Wonderland when the who's the best "debate" is on. It was off for years eh? Once upon a time it was *the* flame war at our site, or so the original members say. |
|
Aug-17-11 | | ProjectR: <jessicafischerqueen> good point regarding fischers legacy ! Strange he never had children,or we may be witnessing the second coming of a chess great if he had ?..maybe not though,as im unaware of any true chess greats who's children also achieved a good playing standard following their fathers.
And thats amazing that rubinsteins family contacted you,and very nice of them too..Id have had too many questions for them myself though and no doubt aggravated them with my persistence ! lol ! And there's currently a Total loon commenting on fischers page right now,i dont understand a word the man says,so i think il stay away and re route to Kasparovs page and see how things are going on over there. |

Revelation from Saint Maria Faustina
Today I was in heaven, in spirit, and I saw its inconceivable beauties and the happiness that awaits us after death. I saw how all creatures give ceaseless praise and glory to God. I saw how great is happiness in God, which spreads to all creatures, making them happy; and then all the glory and praise which springs from this happiness returns to its source; and they enter into the depths of God, contemplating the inner life of God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Whom they will never comprehend or fathom. This source of happiness is unchanging in its essence, but it is always new, gushing forth happiness for all creatures.
*Now I understand Saint Paul, who said, "Eye has not seen, nor has ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man what God has prepared for those who love Him." Diary of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, 777 |
