 | | jnpope: <There's a missing column - just a single problem - from July 22nd.> That would probably be the missing problem No. 60 in the JGW scrapbook. I've moved problem No. 59 to the July 15 date, but the article text was left as July 29 as the text is a report of the proceedings of the 21st and 22nd making it more than likley that section came from the 29th issue (page 702 according to the scrapbook annotation). |

 | | MissScarlett: < <Having trouble finding right date of your May 27th.> Re-dated to June 3 for now.>
Been through it with a toothcomb. The front page promises chess. I did discover that the supplement section (the last 8 pages of 24) is dated June 4th, so there was a Sunday edition, for a period, at least. Whether this has anything to do with the missing column is another matter. I had an inkling that there might one or more later editions a few days ago. Williams mentioned the result of one of the Lowenthal - Harrwitz games having just come through, although the game was apparently played on the Saturday that the paper appeared. |

 | | MissScarlett: When discussing the Staunton - Worrall games before, why did you not mention the games in the 1858 <Chess Monthly>? |
|
Apr-29-23
 | | jnpope: Was I supposed to? I thought we were just looking for the Staunton v. Worrall games from 1860. I figured you were already aware of the 1858 games as they appear in the <Oxford Encyclopedia of Chess Games>. |

I find it helpful to record the original notation at the various points needing correction. Now a question - did Lasker deliberately allow Crohn to get away with a draw? |
|
Dec-06-23 | | WilhelmThe2nd: I got the same score as <jnpope> for the Crohn game. For the Garrigues game I got this:
1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Nc3 Bb4 5.Nf3 O-O 6.d3 d6 7.O-O Bg4
8.Bxf4 Bxc3 9.bxc3 Nc6 10.Bb3 Ne5 11.Bg5 Bxf3 12.gxf3 h6 13.Bh4 Ng6

Rxf6 Rxg2 27.Rxg2 Nc4 28.Bxc4 Rxe4 29.Bd2 Qd1+ 30.Rf1 Qxc2 31.Rfg1 Re8
32.Bxf7 Rc8 33.Bg5 Qf5 34.Bxh6 Qxf7 35.Re1 Rg8 36.Bg5 Qf3 37.Re3 Qf5
38.Bf6+ Kh7 39.Re7+ Kh6 40.Rxg8 Qxf6 1/2-1/2
But I think <jnpope>'s version is probably correct since <K-B2 R-xR7ch> is almost certainly a mistaken reprint from the previous score and <K-Rsq K-Rsq> are duplicated moves. |
