Jan-04-08 | | sentriclecub: Hey kutz
What do you think of the overall idea behind my suggestion posted on RV's forum here... RandomVisitor chessforum |
|
Jan-05-08 | | sentriclecub: Also, I read your response on cg's forum, and I think if they do it within 6-10 months is fine. I know I'll stick around until then. |

I read your post at <RV>. If those on the team who have comparable hardware and software to RV can somehow cooperate with him to provide broader baseline analyses, permitting us to go deeper, that would be a good thing. Let's see what <RV> says. |
|
Jan-07-08 | | Elixir of Life: <Kutztown46> It seems that you don't have any forums on <Analysis of 26...Nc7 27. <b3>>. This line has turned up in <RV>s deep-ply analysis, and merits serious consideration as per izimbra: <izimbra: <26..Nc7 27.b3> is worth serious consideration. This move doesn't threaten anything but it leaves white with one less weakness and doesn't prevent e4. Black's two main replies seem to be <27..Re6> and <27...h5>. RandomVisitor has some sample lines on his page.> Will you considering adding this forum after GMT moves? |

Jan-07-08 | | sentriclecub: Hey kutz,
check my post on the main page The World vs G Timmerman, 2007 and use it as a tiny tool to help you judge where peoples' interests lay. Why use Fritz and not Rybka, why use computers and not teammates? Since our team uses a variety of chess engines and "intuition" and crystal balls, you'll get a great feedback as to what forums the team wants (and hence less dead forums). I think that Guess-The-Variation (which I beg your participation, btw) will force our team to look at more than 2-3 positions. guess the move always is the most active forum in terms of "unique visitors" so maybe my reach can redirect the team into caring about spending more time. Hopefully, its a long shot and a 6 hour gamble of my time. Anyways, wanted to thank you again for your early support of guess-the-move and I hope this will in turn make our teammates analyze deeper and use the forums to help decide on their choice. |

OK, I voted at your forum. Your latest project is certainly a pleasant diversion. As you say, it may also be a "tiny tool" to help with setting up of forums. In my normal forum prep work, I start with my own Fritz analysis, then I check <RV>'s lines, and if I have time, I read through the forums to see what variations are being discussed. Let me add that a "dead forum" or two does not bother me - I'd rather have one or two too many forums than one or two too few. Two questions:
1) Are you planning to summarize the votes at some point? 2) What criteria did you use to decide at any branch of the tree which moves to include? Did you go by the evaluations, or did you take the top "n" choices, or some other criteria? When I set up forums, I generally exclude any move not within 0.25-0.30 of the top move, unless a lower rated move shows up in one of <RV>'s lines or unless a lower rated move is being discussed by team members whom I respect. As an example, after 27. Bf1, I show the same top four black moves as you do, but 27...Rfe8 and Nce8 are more than half a pawn worse than 27...Re6 and Nd7. Therefore, I only include the top two in this case. By opening things up as you did, there is a greater chance of catching everyone's choice, but you will never catch all the possible off the wall ideas that some will come up with. |

 | | kutztown46: Oh, one other thing. I did not understand this part: <Why use Fritz and not Rybka, why use computers and not teammates?> What did you mean by this? Taking a stab at what you might have meant, I think it's good for the team to use as many engines as possible. |

Jan-14-08 | | sentriclecub: <kutztown46: Oh, one other thing. I did not understand this part:
<Why use Fritz and not Rybka, why use computers and not teammates?>> I'm accidently leaking future ideas, outta my skull. I keep gotta reminding myself to "keep the data-tree featureless for at least 2 months". But here's the explanation.
I plan for the data-tree to eventually become a very-useful tool that reflects everyone's collective contributions. I want to be able to integrate humans + computers, kind of like I included the unused feature of the data-tree demo labeled "strength weakness anlaysis" for higher-rated players to briefly annotate the section's 2 or 3 best variations. I think there is a divide amongst this team between those with flesh vs silicon. Any time you make a branch for the forum-assignments or I make a branch for the data-tree, I wish I could borrow the brain of thorrson or kwid to help me make decisions. The question I asked, was a philophical question, that as I re-read it now, I can certainly tell was in a peak-creativity mode. It was supposed to be more clearly in the form "why A and not B; why A and/or B and not C; why anything" It was just spontaneously thrown in. |
|
Jan-14-08 | | sentriclecub: I'm actually seeking "new ways to learn chess" and want to know how the other half does it. When a brain limits itself, it can't improve. I don't think for a moment my way of thinking is best or that i'm smarter than anyone else on the team. I think education is something that is life-long and CG is one of my hobbies, along with music (and I must say music is one of the best things for a brain to involve itself in). My philosophy of life, is that I want to spread knowledge and practice humanistic methods of how to treat other human beings and live reminded that He created every person and gave them a heart, a soul, and a brain. |

Jan-15-08 | | zanshin: <kutz> I saw the note you left in my forum. If the move comes on Sunday, I might not be able to post the new forum assignments as we might be in Tampa. We should have no problems finding alternates on a weekend ... maybe <MAJ>. I'll let you know as soon as our plans are set. |
|
Jan-15-08 | | MostlyAverageJoe: <zanshin: We should have no problems finding alternates on a weekend ... maybe <MAJ>> Yes, I can definitely do it on weekend. Wednesday (tomorrow), on the other hand, is one of those days when I know ahead of the time that I won't be near a computer for the entire day. |
