Some years ago I came up with a new but simple system to calculate the final standings of a tournament including all players. This is how it goes:

For each correct standing you'll get a maximum amount of points. Each prediction deviation from the actual player standing in the tournament, will deduct one point from your total (ABSOLUTE RANKER).

In case of a shared player's standing the average standing counts (both actual and in your predictions).

The SQUARE RANKER, squares your predictions' deviations. Here only medals are awarded if the winner s is not the same person s as in the absolute ranker.

Same goes for the The PAIR BETTING RANKER compare all possible pair outcomes of the tournament participants.

The three best predictions will get Real Virtual Gold Silver and Bronze!

Note: only one set of medals is awarded (in the absolute ranker) unless another ranker produces a different winner.

Special thanks to <YouRang> who made a software to calculate these numbers.

Our new contest manager for game results prediction User: Golden Executive during the tournament also ([1-0], [1/2], [0-1])!

or predict the # of moves in User: ohiochessfan organized by <chessmoron>

Enjoy!

lostemperor: <YouRang> takes ♔-Double Crown-♔ in the Standard and Square Ranker!! (of which one Crown will be recorded in th HALL of FAME*).

<YouRang> now move pass the seemingly unapproachable record of <WannaBe> of four prediction contests wins!!

♔ Your organizer <lostemperor> manage to hold the Gold in the Pair betting Ranker! So this was also the battle of the prediciton contest organizers :-)

♕ Silver goes to <Robin01> (Standard Ranker) and again <lostemperor> (Square Ranker*) and <YouRang> in the Pair Bettings!

♖ Bronze goes to 2x <winking> (Standard and Square Ranker*) <lostemperor (Standard Ranker) and <isemeria> Pair Betting Ranker!

*Mind: according to the rules, since the Standard and Square Ranker is won by the same person(s) the medals of the Square ranker will not be recorded in the HALL of FAME.

Nov-25-11  YouRang: <lostemperor> Woo hoo! Another gold in your final standings contest!

I must be some kind of weird karma that causes me to do well here, while stinking up the place at my own house.

Thanks for running the contest, and congratulations on winning gold in the Pair Betting contest. Winning at home is a feat I've practically given up on.

lostemperor: <YouRang> you can win your own prediction contest. You virtually showed here again that you often made right predictions of the game results (1/2, 1-0, 0-1) albeit at the wrong moments (like I did) ;-)
