Some years ago I came up with a new but simple system to calculate the final standings of a tournament including all players. This is how it goes:

For each correct standing you'll get a maximum amount of points. Each prediction deviation from the actual player standing in the tournament, will deduct one point from your total (ABSOLUTE RANKER).

In case of a shared player's standing the average standing counts (both actual and in your predictions).

The SQUARE RANKER, squares your predictions' deviations. Here only medals are awarded if the winner s is not the same person s as in the absolute ranker.

Same goes for the The PAIR BETTING RANKER compare all possible pair outcomes of the tournament participants.

The three best predictions will get Real Virtual Gold Silver and Bronze!

Note: only one set of medals is awarded (in the absolute ranker) unless another ranker produces a different winner.

Special thanks to <YouRang> who made a software to calculate these numbers.

Our new contest manager for game results prediction User: Golden Executive during the tournament also ([1-0], [1/2], [0-1])!

or predict the # of moves in User: ohiochessfan organized by <chessmoron>

Enjoy!

lostemperor: Anand still comfortably first, missed a huge chance for a win today against Andreikin. Keeping some hope alive for Aronian, Karjakin and Mamedyarov in the tournament

We have three co-leaders in the Absolute ranker <babakova> <cromat> and <OhioChessFan>. While <cromat> and <YouRang> are leading in the Square and Pair betting ranker respectively.

With two rounds to go ...

<Penguincw> ruling supreme in the three rankers. Can the last round make some changes still?

Mar-29-14

Penguincw: Just wondering: Has anyone ever won a triple crown before? I understand that almost every time the winners for "Absolute Ranker" are the same for "Square Ranker", but what about adding a crown for "Betting Ranker"?
Mar-30-14
Premium Chessgames Member
lostemperor: <Penguincw> yes it happened quite a few time people won all three rankers although lately the pair betting ranker becomes such a great competition that it often produced different winner! So if I add a crown for someone who won the betting ranker with other ranker(s) I have to go back for all winners who won them all because of a strong prediction but only got one Crown. That would not benefit the clarity of the Hall of Fame unfortunaltey.

lostemperor: For the Prediction Rankings there is a somewhat peculiarlarity where except for a convincing winner some won third place in the Absolute ranker but second place in the Square or Betting ranker. I decided conform earlier occurances to award the highest medal (silver) to them. And also as mentioned only one Gold is awarded if the winner of two or more rankings is the same person!

lostemperor: An impressive victory for <Penguincw> ♔ winning all three rankers in a very tough contest with daring predictions!

<Penguincw> was right on ANAND 1st, ANDREIKIN 3-5 (4th) and very close on ARONIAN 6/7 (5-7)!

Second place for <WannaBe> ♕ (a better medal in the Square Ranker than in the Absolute (Bronze)) who overtake Predictions' Title Holder <YouRang> in the Hall of Fame! He was pessimistic about his chances but fine risky predictions made him get Silver in the Pair betting Ranker (higher than third in the Absolute ranker)!

Same also goes for <WinKing> ♕ in the Square Ranker!

Bronze for <Karposian> ♖!

Congratulations and thanks all for joining!

Dates: June 2-13

Players: Carlsen, Aronian, Kramnik, Topalov, Caruana, Karjakin, Svidler, Grischuk, and 2 others to make a total of 10.

Mar-30-14  WinKing: Thanks for running & hosting this contest <lostemperor>.

Congratulations to all of the medal winners! Special kudos to <Penguincw> on leading in every category!!! You were a virtual prediction monster...I mean that in a good sense of course.
