| May-06-08 | | ahmadov: <lostemperor: <ahmadov> I wouldn't be so sure about that. After all I did beat a fine player like yourself hehehe! Tnx.> LOL I am really happy that that win had created so much confidence in you :-) |

 | | lostemperor: <ahmadov> I wanted to write this at my player's page. Like I said to you before, I am often successful with strong players (1900- 2200) but also often lose to weak players (1600). So the chances are big that you are a strong player which I think you are. But to think I would stand even the slightest chance against one of the GP participants is indeed crazy. But I can always try to turn on my old Yoda magic again <;) |

 | | lostemperor: Coming up soon, the surprise player's awards. Btw. this Vugar Gashimov guy is a great unknown to me. I now read some things on his page. Many of <ahmadov> postings. Azerbaijan has a lot of great talents. |
|
| May-06-08 | | ahmadov: <Azerbaijan has a lot of great talents.> Another one is coming from my family... My 4-year old nephew drew a game against me two days ago :-) I am sure he also can be a great player in the future but the question is if I or his father want this... |
|

 | | lostemperor: <DrawingIsLife>, <YouRang> I wasn't planning to hold a contest on MTel, what was becoming a tradition because I chose Baku GP which is so close to Mtel. But maybe there is sufficient interest.. I will join the individual games results prediction contest at YouRang forum. |
|
| May-06-08 | | NakoSonorense: Dank u wel for running the contest, <lostemperor>! I didn't know you were Dutch! For some reason I had always assumed you were from the US. I'm telling you, I'm cursed in this contest... I can never win! :( |

 | | lostemperor: <ahmadov> your 4 year old nephew drew you?! Incredible. I estimate your strength at around 1800-1900. Which is about mine also. How many four year old you know, now or then who has got that strength? Very few, if anybody. I only know of tales of considerable strength of Capablanca, Susan Polgar and perhaps Morphy at that age! He should definitely continue playing chess, play his uncle and learn!:) |

 | | Open Defence: seems Baku will continue to produce chess geniuses! |

 | | lostemperor: <NakoSonorense> I know for a fact, you are a good predictor! You should visit Holland and we discuss some prediction tactics like I did with <ahmadov>! Graag gedaan;) |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <lostemperor: <ahmadov> your 4 year old nephew drew you?! Incredible. I estimate your strength at around 1800-1900. Which is about mine also.> Yes, it's incredible that our very own <ahmadov> was capable of drawing such a prodigy, and indeed the persistent rumors are that the game was part of a blindfold simul, the nephew playing both <ahmadov> and his brother (the latter consulting Rybka 2.3.2 for help). As could be expected, <ahmadov> soon run into trouble against the little genius, but his engine-armed brother did better and managed to steer into a drawish endgame. More as a joke than anything else, <ahmadov> offered a draw before resigning, only to be surprised by the boy accepting because he had forgotten which game was against whom. |

| May-07-08 | | ahmadov: <lostemperor: <ahmadov> your 4 year old nephew drew you?! Incredible.> Yes, it is really very incredible... I would not say I played my full strength but I would definitlely win against many people playing in our local tea-house with the similar strength. The story with my nephew is that me and my brother were observing that he had great interest in chess, so my brother decided to take him to the chess club when I was in my hometown four months ago. He was very quick to solve very simple puzzles within one or two weeks. I was in Mingacevir last weekend and I was told that he has attracted a lot of people's attention for his talent, including the head of the sports committee of the town. I was also told that he can solve the puzzles of people about 5 or 7 years older than him. His chess teacher, who is also the teacher of Sanan Quliyev (he has a player page here), said that this child would definitely be a very successful player. I think my brother wants to move to Baku only because of him as his son might have little chances to be promoted outside Baku. Otherwise, he wants his son to stay with me in Baku. However, it is still a big question if being a prominent chess player is something good for my nephew. |
|
| May-07-08 | | ahmadov: <SwitchingQuylthulg> Actually, I started playing like against a child. He blundered in the opening and I let him take back his move, but gradually I found that my position was becoming worse and he created a passed pawn, which I hardly stopped with my knight. I was very afraid to lose so I found a move to draw in the endgame... I think he could even win in the endgame if he was older... Anyway, I am sure he has the strength many prominent GMs had when they were 4 or 5. |
|
| May-07-08 | | ahmadov: <lostemperor><I only know of tales of considerable strength of Capablanca, Susan Polgar and perhaps Morphy at that age!> Yes, I also heard some stories about that but seeing it in real life is increadible indeed... You see a child having everything childish but playing like a mature person... A kind of contradiction that astonds you... |

 | | lostemperor: <ahmadov> I have a cute four year old nephew too, but I don't see him playing chess yet. Your nephew should keep playing chess especially since he enjoy it! Btw. it is striking how close your report is to that of <SwitchingQuylthulg> <As could be expected, <ahmadov> soon run into trouble against the little genius, but his engine-armed brother did better and managed to steer into a drawish endgame. More as a joke than anything else, <ahmadov> offered a draw before resigning, only to be surprised by the boy accepting because he had forgotten which game was against whom> <I found that my position was becoming worse and he created a passed pawn, which I hardly stopped with my knight. I was very afraid to lose so I found a move to draw in the endgame... I think he could even win in the endgame if he was older> and scary too:-) |
|
| May-07-08 | | ahmadov: <Btw. it is striking how close your report is to that of <SwitchingQuylthulg>> This is not for the first time that <Switch> knows my unrevealed stories... Sometimes, I think he is a ghost following me everywhere :-) |

 | | lostemperor: <ahmadov> if you have written down the game or can reconstruct it, maybe you can post it here or in your forum in pgn-format (before submitting it to chessgames)! I'm sure you have made a lot of people curious. |

My new, <modified <ELO-based <triplets-random <prediction <system>>>>> worked well, at least until round 9. Will ad a correcting variable for the 'luck factor' :D As for M-Tel I'll do it traditionally, rolling the dice. |
