|
Jul-26-08
 | | lostemperor: <wolfmaster> Johann Hjartarson? Interesting indeed! He sure fits the profile. A candidate who besides very successful wins has had a fair share of losses also. Now before I go on, could you tell if there are any other reasons why you picked him? I would have asked this anyway:) |

<Which Grandmaster, a former world champion candidate, has the longest losing streak?> The answer:
Johann Hjartarson
Winner of the Summer Chess Question 2008: <wolfmaster> Good sleuthing!! Johann Hjartarson has a losing streak of 10 classical games. In 1989 Hjartarson lost the last six games of Linares followed by the first 4 games of VSB Amsterdam tournament. A record streak in negative sense!(?) |

 | | lostemperor: Winner of Biel 2008 Alekseev and Dominguez!
<Biel Final Standings> 1. Alekseev 6.5
1. Dominguez 6.5
3. Carlsen 6
4. Bacrot 5.5
5. Onischuk 4
6. Pelletier 1.5
Especially Dominguez may come as a surprise. I admit I saw him as the biggest underdog together with Pelletier at first, although he did win a super tournament in Barcelona. If you had him low on the list you may end up in the red because there are only six participants. Carlsen, inspite of third place, did not disappoint me. From what I saw, he played great chess although sometimes a bit experimental it seems. I wouldn't say that was a sign of weakness. Au contraire! |
