"Play the board AND the man ! ".
But mostly the board.
Was born in Elsinore,Denmark,1953.And I am still proud of it.As I hope everyone is proud of hers/his startingpoint.

In many aspects life and chess do mirror each other IM experience. As science and belief goes hand in hand.So many "rules of thumbs" and many "exceptions" from the rule. I do agree with Bent Larsen who once said that someone who cannot contain a paradoxe is not using the full capacity of his brain.Actually I am convinced that there are no parodoxes, but perspectives which are more bright or flexible than others...

Though some obviously are borned under more easygoing circumstances than others,I will second our esteemed fellowkibitzer <zarg> who underlines that "luck" is also somehing that we create ourselves. Ourselves, but also together IM experience.
I try to live my life as if Jesus or Buddha knocked on the door , I would wellcome them as friends . And if they didn´t show up, it would be fine anyway.

  moronovich: Welcome back !

Yes,there is lot of play in the Carlsen-Radja game.Radja has fine counterplay IMO.And off course many endgames will favour white.

Just came back from a walk and will check in on the other games as well.

Mar-23-13  achieve: Yes - Kramnik seems to have erred severely since Gelfand can play 19 Nfg5 and Kramnik is lost within 20 minutes.... Unbelievable. Trent saw the move in commentary, but who wouldn't see it?! Kramnik?? I really feel bad for old Vlad...

moronovich: And now I feel bad for old Boris.
Both knights to g5 would be fine.
strange blunder on this level..do they know each other too good ;) ?
Mar-23-13  achieve: Gelfand missed the sitter.... What to say...

moronovich: <cGelfand missed the sitter.... What to say...>..had a lot of bucks on Gelfie.

Will send him a baby <sitter> .

Mar-23-13  achieve: Yes two blunders in a row smell of the "I can't believe that Kramnik miscalculated that move so I will just play a "solid move"" principle. It rarely happens - but still - probably here again.

But the position just looked so smelly.

moronovich: wauw , Carlsen in trouble !
Mar-23-13  achieve: Certainly! :( - I've been making dinner, and see that Magnus is in quite a lot of trouble, as white, and the genius is still not too clever at playing his openings with a distinct purpose, which comes out rarely, but already twice here, but I am lost for a clear explanation in that Carlsen is supposed to have the superior feel for where to place his pieces, and in this opening/early middlegame phase he on rare occasion, still looks clumsy. Very rare occasion of course - but still, he does at times.
Mar-23-13  achieve: <csmath> put it a little more harshly:

<csmath: His whole opening is one sure crap. It enabled Radjabov an easy attack which is really nothing special. Typical King's Indian attack that Radjabov knows very well. Unlike King's Indian there is no compensation anywhere except in some theoretical idea of "doubled pawns." This is a clean example of playing uprapared opening and getting beaten because of that.>

Of course Carlsen magically was let off the hook, and draw by repetition is official?

Your call, moro.?

moronovich: But now they have agreed to a draw.
Another Carlsen escape ;)
(would have netted 400 dollars, net profit, real money if Radja would have won ):

Anyway tomorrow is the game of all games and I am really looking forward to watching it.

It has been nice exchanging today and perhaps see you tomorrow !?

Take care and enjoy.

moronovich: Carlsen looking slightly irritated(on himself) and a bit tired at the pressconference, for the first time in this tournament..

Your impression ?

Mar-23-13  achieve: I would use some stronger words - Carlsen definitely irritated and restless, disappointed at how this all happened, and the most striking is that it <seems> that he at some point conveyed that Radja should have played stronger moves (consolidated the advantage) and punished him. Would have to look at it again, but that was what I felt.
Mar-23-13  achieve: Certainly not tired imo - but the pressure and his perfectionism obviously could make it look like he is tired. It's more frustration than anything, and he might have gotten a rush from this to crush Aronian tomorrow. He is in fighting mood. Carlsen just now was snorting in the microphone, like a horse that wants to break free...

Lol!

Could imagine that Peter Heine has some consolation work to do..

But we know that Magnus often is most
dangerous when he is angry,so...

The reverse goes for Levon I could imagine.

Mar-23-13  achieve: Agree - the last thing you want to do is get Carlsen angry! - Good grief - Aronian will have his hands full, and indeed Lev doesn't seem to feed off anger.

Hope to continue this tomorrow! ;)

Expecting fireworks, this is as good as it gets.

Mar-24-13  achieve: Afternoon, <moro> - it is on!

Well, is it? After 15...c6 this c-pawn really is the only "weakness" in Black's position. Black owns the c4 square but getting a Knight there to close the file is not on in the near future - but to my amateur eyes White hasn't got much concrete going for him, it must be <created from here>. Of course the c-pawn is a concern in the long term though, anyhoo, lets see how this develops. Carlsen has put in a long think at move 16, his first one, which surprises me somewhat; he must have had that position on the board in preparation. Likely he is really getting deep into some lines now, and calculate far ahead. My first two cents.

Mar-24-13  achieve: The commentators unanimously preferring the Black position, if anything. Oops - if this is the preparation for the biggest rival, with the White pieces (for which he has had weeks, his "team"), then there is something wrong, hehe... *gulp* .. I do not quite get it.

But the excitement and tension has not diminished.

Good afternoon <achieve> ! Fine comments you make and very similar to my own thoughts.Especially about the team(Heine is an old catalaner himself)...

But I have to take a break now,but will be back in 30-60 minuttes.

See you.

All in all they are heading for a draw , are my 2 cents. But the excitement and tension has not diminished/recycled ;)

Mar-24-13  achieve: Yeah - blitzing exchanging most of the pieces and instead of getting the draw in quickly with a repetition Carlsen decides to play on in a at this level completely drawn position. I don't see the point, Aronian was looking bored at his fingernails, lol, a few minutes ago, but Mags just plays on for some reason.

moronovich: Magnus playing on may be a kind of machoinvestment for future meetings.

But a draw is official now and somehow disappointing, but fully understandable according to the tournamentsituation.

Mar-24-13  achieve: Handshake - what a crap game between the two leaders .. Imagine Kasparov playing like this against Karpov in their prime, in an important possibly decisive game for a title.

Carlsen seems to find it normal that he played safe here, and he said that he didn't know much about ...c6, and that it was probably good, he doesn't know, "you just play chess, I don't know", and more of those interesting lines.

moronovich: Yeah.Somehow he doesn´t occur as the most open guy at London.

Perhaps acting a bit "spoiled."

Mar-24-13  achieve: Macho-investment?? No, certainly not the impression given off here by Carlsen. And honestly I do not understand much about this fear to lose dominating in Carlsen's mind as White. Just doesn't add up. It's too cramped of an attitude, you know, but maybe after 7 intense games this is what both wanted, I really do not see the point, guess I am disappointed. And so were the commentators, and thousands of people watching from home. Not their concern of course. This just comes across as sissy.

You see, moro, with White in case of an equal score this is the chance to prep something, that is why you hire a team; now it is in fact no longer in Carlsen's hands.

The position was actually lifeless within an hour or so, so see you later this week. ;) I need to shift my attention to something else first now. ;)

Mar-24-13  achieve: <Perhaps acting a bit "spoiled."> Well said, spot on. Of course Aronian must be very satisfied as Black drawing like this against the highest ever rated, haha, take care, I really enjoyed the visit today, here, not so much "there" ;)
