 | | moronovich: <I need to shift my attention to something else first now. ;)> Thanks for dropping by.The pleasure is mine too.
Good luck with your doings and perhaps see you tomorrow. You are always welcome. Spaghetti is comming up in as the next
big event,here ;)
But when the dust is settled a draw may very well be the best for chess in general and for the tension in the remaining rounds. |
|
| Mar-24-13 | | achieve: I'm having a different type pasta, Mihoen!
I'll drop by of course if it gets exciting the next week. |
|
Mar-24-13
 | | moronovich: Hasta la pasta,babe ;) |
|
| Mar-24-13 | | achieve: Gooooooo Kramnik!!
Do they eat pasta in Russia??
There's so much you actually don't know about, eh? Are there Italian restaurants in Russia? Indian food? Muesli? Chinese take out? Polish Pot? |
|
| Mar-24-13 | | achieve: Kramnik winning last night did perk me up in a way - considering how diligent his preparation has been, and the high expectations he had -- with the win today there is a glimmer of a chance, he finally got a win on the board, and then anything can happen, especially if he wins tomorrow... He may kick into topform. Also - Radja's press-conference after a loss and three awkward results in a row was exemplary, my hat is off to him for being such a good sport and gracious in defeat, and it is in stark contrast to the attitude of the norwegian, especially these last two rounds, to put it mildly. I know the pressures on him are mounting, but I did not like what I saw this weekend; anyways, just thinking out loud, and hope Kramnik will spice things up now; if he beats both Carlsen and Levon it would be sensational, albeit the odds are against him. |

| Mar-25-13 | | Boomie: <achieve> I stumbled on this interview of Oscar Peterson by Andre Previn and thought of you. I'm trying to find the whole thing which I hope is about more than Art Tatum. Oscar's warmth flows through. What a mensch! http://www.pianostreet.com/smf/inde... |
|
| Mar-25-13 | | Boomie: <achieve>
OK. I tracked the interview down on YouTube.

| Mar-25-13 | | achieve: <Boomie> That, my friend, is one of my price possessions, very dear to my heart, and I know the whole show by heart, and Oscar & André are incredibly charming and animated, warm is indeed the word, and I have two copies of it on DVD, one, the original, on Super VHS! - it's in total about 75 minutes, including absolute gems like Wheatland, The Lonesome One - the touch and delicacy there is unequalled - and I hope you get to see the other parts as well. They take some time to talk about Nat Cole, Count Basie, but Oscar plays about 8 pieces in total, and they close out playing a Blues together; it's a feast. There was one uploader on YTube who had th whole thing, but the sound was rather bad, too soft, but the link you gave sounds much better. It was 1974, I think, and Oscar was in a superb mood. |
|
| Mar-25-13 | | achieve: You found it!
Part 4 starts with 'Love Is A Simple Thing' - a song that Oscar never recorded! |
|
Mar-25-13
 | | moronovich: Seems like we have got an Oscar !
And right <acieve>, Kramnik may prove to be lethal today. It would be surrealistic if Magnus looses and Aronian wins today, which would leave Magnus in deep trouble. See you later !? |
|
| Mar-25-13 | | achieve: Here I am! - I've got a bad cold, in fact, and speaking of fact, if Kramnik wins today, he will have closed the gap completely with Magnus, plus he has the better H2H score in case they finish with the same score. Aronian has Black as well, vs Gelfy, and Boris played a super game yesterday, so he has clearly warmed up, and might just as well have winning chances; can't be ruled out. But at 3.5 points he would be offering a service to Kramnik more than anything if he would beat Lev. Gelfand would then be at 4.5, with three players on 5.5, and in fact all to play for; how about that for excitement value?! ;) |
|
| Mar-25-13 | | achieve: I watched the press conference again, just now, and my harsh words regarding yesterday's pc were misplaced; Carlsen did reveal a few things probably while I was typing ferociously, and I must remain critical towards myself, as well. Traditionally, Mags has been worse from the opening as Black against Vlad, and it will be interesting what he's got on the stove, that is, if Carlsen can completely side-step Kramnik's prep. Hardly I think. Now I will cease posting/speculating until the games are underway. *sneeeeze* |

 | | moronovich: Hi <achieve> !
Just returned from a trip with wify..
Hope you will cope with the cold in the best way.
First impression is : Kramnik may get his kind of position were only two results are possible.Last call for Vlad. Levon seems to have the same strategy as Vlad against a Gelfand with new wind in his sails.. But a lot of stuff can happen..
Glad if yours/and mine impressions of Magnus yesterday are not the whole truth. Selfreflection is the way to go.
Like on the chessboard.
Approximately 70% of the time,my first
move is the one played--but the remaining 30%...are not ! ;) See you around.
Good to have Nigel back. |

 | | moronovich: <But at 3.5 points he would be offering a service to Kramnik more than anything if he would beat Lev.> !! Yeah,I forgot about this.Well spotted. They are on very friendly terms,soooo.. |
|
Mar-25-13
 | | moronovich: I am very experienced in the dutch defence, especially the stonewall and as that a little strange to see the inacurancies they make at the stage in London...
They did mention that Gelfie has a rather bad score vs the dutch...And Aronian is supposed to know that ... |
|
| Mar-25-13 | | achieve: Hi <moro> - I haven't seen anything yet, it's 16:28 now, been playing music - will try and get up to speed by 5 or so, and it looks Kramnik is at least "well out of the blocks", as I glanced at the Chessdom site -- see you in a bit. |
|
| Mar-25-13 | | achieve: <Good to have Nigel back.> I fully agree, heh - he was sort of my example when I studied as a teenager/early 20s... I like his style and thought processes, and connect easily with it. I'm afraid I dont have the energy to make detailed comments, it's too complicated if I am not in it from the start, but come transition to late middle/endgame I may "wake up" - question is if Carlsen will make it there, plus he is more of an escape artist these days ;) Short is rather pessimistic, and critical of the approach; I wonder what the seconds have done, exactly, in the past few months. |
|
| Mar-25-13 | | achieve: Carlsen doesn't look too bothered, rather tranquil in fact. This is one of his major strengths, and the opponents do not get the bodylanguage back that they are used to see with less confident players, which is just about everyone. |
|
Mar-25-13
 | | moronovich: <I wonder what the seconds have done, exactly, in the past few months.> Tablesoccer at the beach/seaside ;) ? Welcome back <achieve> hope youre treting the cold in the best way !? RE bodylanguage : sometimes Vlad leans exactly forwards in the same angle as Magnus leans backwards..(!!)
Corresponds very well with their attitude at the pressconference. At moro`s we are not depending on precise variations ;) |
|
Mar-25-13
 | | moronovich: Short may be the most classical player of the whole "old" generation IMO. Very healthy study material. |
|
| Mar-25-13 | | achieve: <At moro`s we are not depending on precise variations ;)> And for good reason - I tend to find it boring, all those lines, except if I am fully immersed "as if" I were playing the game. I even have to pick a color, and then I can get interested in concrete lines (I can't get easily beyond 6 ply, I used to analyse before the internet era by getting my old wooden board and pieces out). Engine-assisted commentary, for me, is the most boring, if it is mostly lines that are given, without a description of the dynamics. |
|
Mar-25-13
 | | moronovich: At some time I found out that I simply calculated longer and better with board and wooden pieces.I am born 1953 as you may know.
And later experienced that the same goes for Anand.himself. But the younger generation..
"Magnus",do you have a board and pieces at the house ?" "Just a moment,sir.Perhaps I have.I shall take a look" |
|
Mar-25-13
 | | moronovich: <"Magnus",do you have a board and pieces at the house ?" "Just a moment,sir.Perhaps I have.I shall take a look"> Based on a true story |
|
| Mar-25-13 | | achieve: Yep - I remember that - and I cannot play blindfold, just had dinner btw, and it seems Aronian is in danger of losing, while Magnus seems to hold fairly comfortably.... <Younger generation> David Howell, Gawain Jones are monster calculators "in their head", and Kramnik is like a walking engine, but Short is much more economical I feel, hehe... Also watching the Golf, Tiger Woods, so this chatting between the two of us is excellent. :) |
|
| Mar-25-13 | | achieve: Important draw for Carlsen is official, and Gelfand as I expected has been able to take a shot at Aronian, just a pity Carlsen felt he needed to play safe. That's chess and pressure for ya - weight of expectation even tells on Carlsen. Timescramble, Gelfand MUST take this now... |
