| Jan-25-14 | | achieve: A little, yes, just the games of Aronian Timman and Giri, at first, but as Kasparov confirmed and I have been saying for years Giri only goes for draws against players ranked higher than him, aims to <not lose>, instead of taking it to them like Carlsen did, and which is why Carlsen developed so quickly, trying to win even drawn positions. Garri looks indded very tired, jet-legged, but still some very insightful comments at the right time, but he sounded as if he was on Valium. Good to hear your wife joined the mass hysteria and enjoyed it! ;) |

Jan-25-14
 | | moronovich: Yeah, Giri seems somehow too content with drawing which often doesn´t make the most of a young players talent. And his opening repetoire also seems a bit too narrow IMHO.And I agree that somehing like the Carlsen approach is the way to go.. And why didn´t Jan Timman play on in the position where draw was agreed ?
After all it is a ticket for next years
A-Group they are playing for.
<Garri looks indded very tired, jet-legged> Sorry,I didn´t look under the table ;)
See you around and good night. |
|
| Jan-26-14 | | virginmind: Good luck in the final against France! :) |
|
Jan-26-14
 | | moronovich: Thanks <viginmind> ! I keep the fingers and everything else
crossed ;)And I think it gonna be a very tough game whoever that wins it.
All over the country there is a big handballfever !
And all the best to you, hope you are doing fine !?
Are you following Tata ? |
|
| Jan-27-14 | | achieve: <moro> Pity about last night... 41-32 from memory? Well, that's quite a gap there at the end, and perhaps the pressure was too much to handle properly. Saric won B with a round to spare! And Timman had an excellent tourney, over 60 years young, probably the best result in quite some time. |
|
| Jan-28-14 | | GREYSTRIPE: <achieve> The long-game-standard is quite prevalent in Karpov-chess. Do you like Nakamura-chess-standards? I think Nakamura is a fine Grandmaster of Note~ Do you like Nakamura? |
|
| May-14-14 | | virginmind: Hi <moronovich>, haven't seen you around since quite a while, hope everything's allright. I'm fine - and about to miss the first edition of Iasi Open taking place this week here, as I will leave to France in 3 days. But next year I plan to participate and maybe send you some special reports ;)

May-15-14
 | | moronovich: Good morning <virginmind> ! And thanks for passing by.
A couple of days ago I was thinking of you and just about to post in your forum, but then you came first ! :) Everything is allright thanks, and I am enjoying the spring time which is just on the edge of turning into early summer.
Everything is so fresh and though at the age of 61 it is not recieved with the same euphoria as in the younger days - but silent joy shall nor be underestimeated :) Good to hear you are fine, but seems like you are missing the Iasi Open and I do hope that France will compensate or perhaps even more !?.. And yes, please send me some reports from next years edition. That would be nice. And BTW,where you heading to in France ?
I have spent around 1 and a half year of my life in this country. So it Means a lot to me. See you around and take care !
All the best - moro. |
|
| May-16-14 | | virginmind: I'm glad you're fine. 61, this should be fun, as of me I'll be 50 in a few days (now I realise that for the first time I'll be out of country for my birthday). We'll be heading for Ermont (near Paris) then borrow my brother in law's car for a 9 day trip around Normandy, then back to Ermont for some 10 days and probably check one or two more cities around Paris during that period. Weather broadcast says it's gonna rain next week, but you never know. All the best to you too! |
|
May-16-14
 | | moronovich: Morning <virginmind> ! Hope you will have a pleasant trip with some fruitfull discoveries.A 9 days trip is a long time.Long enough for get a taste of the real and daily France. And please say hello to my old
pal,would you !?
And last, but not least : I wish you a happy Birthday with all the celebration you deserve.5o is a long travel-and I hope you will be with us for many more years to come! All the best et au revoir ;) |
|
| Jun-01-14 | | virginmind: Thank you for the kind wishes. The trip went just fine, we visited a lot of cities/places and most were quite beautiful, some even enthusiasticaly so. Oh, and all the Normans I've spoken to were kind and helpful, quite a pleasure to be in their company, or just asking for directions on the street. Weather was so-so, over all only 4-5 sunny days, apparently the weather here is very changeable. We'll be back in Iasi on June 7, until then we plan to visit Paris a couple of times and maybe also Chantilly. All the best to you and your family! |
|
Jun-02-14
 | | moronovich: Good morning <virginmind> ! I am very glad to hear your trip has been so good so far.And that you have had good experiences with the french people. And they seem simular to those I made during my many stays. With the right approach they often have a wonderful twisted way of viewing thing which is often a great inspiration,as I remember it. So enjoy your further explorations and we may "see" each other again at the upcomming Norway Tournamnent !?.. All the best ,to you and your Family. |
|
| Jul-06-14 | | virginmind: Hi again <moronovich>, everything went fine up to the end, we have extremely beautiful memories from landscapes of Etretat, Mont St. Michel or Saint Malo (although the latter ones in Bretagne, not Normandy). In the end we only went once to Paris, preferring to visit instead Chantilly, Vincennes, Auvers-sur Oise and Isle-Adam. Excellent trip and mostly great weather (I've noticed we've always got weather-lucky in our trips). And how are you? What are your visiting plans for this summer holiday? |
|
| Sep-20-14 | | achieve: <Hi <moro> good to see you too, and speak briefly, whatever the cause may be; again thanks for the cheerful and kind words! Some of what i have been up to I wrote at Boomie's forum, and like you I am eagerly anticipating MC-Anand, 2.0 - which i expect to be of much higher quality, as for some reason that match never took off with me, even though I was highly charged for a historic and memorable encounter. It just wasn't there, very bland and frankly disppointing first few games, and both were indeed nervous. 80% was indeed psychological, as <Sokrates> pointed out and worded very well, at another page. How is life for you and the Mrs in Elsinore? |
|
Sep-20-14
 | | moronovich: Hi <achieve> !
Nice to see you again. And yes I have read your post over at "Boomies".It seems like Jimmy is a wonderfull creature and friend. The great Predecessor of Lars ;)And your beloved music may bring you to your max concernign this special time of the year were we all now the dark(er) period is aproaching but hasn´t really crystalized yet.
At the age of 61 and living a retired life almost at the countryside it has become my favourite time at the year.
And thank you for asking !Life is fine
for Mr & Mrs and I somehow seem to love
her more than ever. From the outside thing may seem repetitive, but I have never tried to be bored and still wonder how it must be felt !? :)
So,if,I look away from a kind of dizziness which have been going on for
8-9 years I wont complain.
But it is not Elsinore (which is my city of birth and early upbringing)but a smaller village north of Århus.Still at the seaside.Anyway good memory on your part. And yes let us look forward to the version 2.0 Carlsen-Anand.I hope it really catches you this time and quess it will.
Vishy looking really good now and in the overall picture he IMO deserves to enter history almost shoulder to shoulder with a guy like Fischer.
I would give him a decent chance like 25-30% which is indeed something, his opponent taking in count. Now I must have my obligatory afternoon nap but wish you all the best,as for the rest of the weekend as well ! See you around "old chap" :) |
|
| Sep-21-14 | | achieve: Thank you for the reply, typical moro-style ;)
Guess what, still a sunny day here this sunday, but golly what a blistering cold wind! Out of the wind in the sun still very hot, but the difference is huge... - Regarding Anand's chances:
To me percentages often do not cut it in encounters of this magnitude, even though over 12 games there ought to be some merit in chance calculation or "some" statistical analysis... But honestly Carlsen knows he can not match Anand preparation wise, Carlsen being rather amateurish in that regard, which tells you even more about his raw OTB strength and power of will, but that said that is <it> for Carlsen, and not that much more: His literal strength and determination, in addition to an unprecedented ability to play all types of positions, relying on his raw talent and feel for the game, backed in his subconscious by a warehouse stored with knowledge that is quite daunting... BUT - Carlsen must be allowed a chance to tap into those resources, and only extremely shrewd preparation can nullify those strengths for no more than an X number of games, limited number. Past that Anand in return must trust his baffling talent and effortlessness with which he used to annihilate just about everyone except GK, Karpov, Ivanchuk, not many more. But time has moved on, almost 45, Vishy, but this upcoming clash for the reasons I think I described fairly, may really give us a super match, and deep down i wish it was over 20 games, Carlsen retaining the title if the score were to be 10-10. Over 12 games Anand, if he can shake the tension and nerves, will have a realistic shot at the title again, I do believe. |

Sep-22-14
 | | moronovich: Morning <achieve> ! Just kissed my wife goodbye as she took
the bus heading for her office downtown Århus. And brrrr it was cold.So first day of the autum in my book.Till now it has been the late, late summer. There is something special about the autum I like more and more the older I get and every summer I promise myself,if there is something simular to a heatwawe that I will never complain about the cold weather. And God can´t please everyone all the time. Some of the Work we must do ourselves ; And why not..
But cold it was ;
I always find your posts inspiring and I will later return to my considerations about the upcomming big clash. But for now there are other stuff to handle. Take care out there & see you around ! |
|
| Sep-22-14 | | achieve: And dress appropriately, when yesterday i could just wear a T-shirt and perhaps a light jacket, today I ought to put on a shirt, a sweater, as well as a coat! Which I did.
After sleeping on it I do feel that Carlsen's energy and stamina ought to give him the edge over 12 vs Anand, but actually avoiding these percentile minute considerations i fully back the statement that the chances are roughly equal. Those first few games, two Blacks and Whites each, will set the pace and the one coming out of the blocks prepared to the max, rested, and confident, will be a hard man to catch in case a lead is established. Hard to pick one over the other before even a warning shot has been fired. |
|
| Oct-01-14 | | wordfunph: mate <moronovich>, thanks for the nice words :) goodluck.. |

Oct-01-14

Certainly that suggests that they were much stronger physically than the men of today. It also suggests that the conditions for long life were extant.>> <Somehow reminds me about the cartoons of Donald Duck back in the 50ies and 60ies.Some people dont need to take mescaline.Just hand them a big book with big pictures.> Instead of hiding under your hero <CM> skirt and taking shots at me from afar, why don't you address me directly? |
|
Oct-31-14
 | | moronovich: <Instead of hiding under your hero <CM>> I like the Colonel and I have no heroes. But you could most likely learn a lot from him. <why don't you address me directly?> My point was more towards an atitude, than your person. But yes it was
both.
I guess that as long as you percieve the World from "your side","the other side",black white, democrats, liberals, heaven and hell, true believers and so forth we would most likely waste each others time. But I may be mistaken and as mentioned earlier if you come with friendliness and an honest need to have an adult diaoloque I will try to bee all welcome. But if you think this is some kind of competition where you have to win an argument, you must go somewhere else. In any case I wish for you a fine weekend. |

 | | OhioChessFan: <I like the Colonel and I have no heroes. But you could most likely learn a lot from him.> He has me on ignore, but routinely spews negative comments to/about me. I see something innately wrong with that. Don't you? <But I may be mistaken and as mentioned earlier if you come with friendliness and an honest need to have an adult diaoloque I will try to bee all welcome.> I think you might want to try that yourself, as that is what I am challenging right now. |
|
| Oct-31-14 | | Colonel Mortimer: <Ohio> <Instead of...taking shots at me from afar, why don't you address me directly?> At least he doesn't have you on ignore when doing so. Taking shots at people on your ignore list - yeah you totally own that tactic, patent pending.. |
