 | | moronovich: Good morning <virginmind> ! Let me wish you a very happy birthday !
And I hope you will be celebrated in the best possible way.And that you will have many good and healthy years ahead. It is the early fifties you are in,right?
Here the sun has arrived and we are closer to summer than autum. All is good except my stomach ,and I may perhaps go to see a doctor today... Wife is beautifull as allways.
Somehow I have not much energy for the
Gashimov Memorial, but I guess that they will play some moves anyway ;). So are you going to eat at one of your favourite restaurants tonight or will your wife do some magic in the kitchen ? Take care and all the best.
Ciao ! |
|
| May-27-16 | | virginmind: Hi, and thank you very much <moronovich>! Yes, I turned 52 this morning. It feels rather good and we're gonna go tomorrow at a restaurant with my family. Also preparing to go on a trip with my wife to Vienna and Salzburg. The weather's cloudy and rainy since quite a few days tho, and the forecast is not good for Austria either. but who knows, maybe we'll get lucky. So sorry to hear that the stomach is still a bit of a problem for you, yes it's best to go see a doctor today. And I wish you a quick recovery! All the best! |

 | | moronovich: Hi !
Went to see the doctor and he was shure it will go over in a short time. And actually now it is much better,so I feel very rejuvenated rigth now.As the sun is heating outside with temperatures up to 27 somewhere in Denmark.Too much for me,you know but someone are happy :)
Today could be called the first day of summer and spring is then finished.Perhaps I should annonce it officially somewhere...:) Your game, which I have just been through I liked very much, with a "little" nice Qeensac to end his misery.Anyway you succeeded to profit from his dubious openingplay. And it doesnt IMO have to be perfect to be good. So are you enjoying the weather and life as such !?
I hope so and send you my best wishes.
Hola ! |
|
| May-31-16 | | virginmind: Hi! It's great that you feel better! And I'm glad you liked my game and thank you for taking the time to go over some of my games. Of course, it doesn't have to be perfect to be good. Tomorrow we're leaving for Austria, yesterday and today was fine here, very warm and no rain. I will most probably be able to write to you over the next 2 weeks, as I believe they provide wifi where we will stay. Other than that I think I'm fine and hopefully it's gonna last. And the same to you and your wife! Cheers! |

 | | moronovich: Hi!
<And the same to you and your wife!> Thank you and the same to you and your wife.I am happy to hear about your trip. And please send news from it,if you like !? Once I was in the austrian mountains, but it was the population the made the greatest impast. So wellcomming and open to "strangers". I have had the best day for a long time and it feels great ! So may you enjoy your travel and I´ll send you all my best wishes. The European Championship is soon comming up.3 intensive weeks ahead ! Cheers and ciao. |
|
| Jun-06-16 | | virginmind: Thank you and hello from Austria! If Vienna is impressive, Salzburg is stunning. Of course smaller, but placed in mountaneous area, the historic centre itself is absolutely gorgeous.. Vienne nonentheless has a big old city with countless historic and monumental buildings, museums and a lot of other tourist attractions. Both more beautiful than I expected.
Maybe one of next days we'll also visit the surrounding area of Salzburg - Salzkamergut - with lakes and mountains.! Gashimov tournament is on the way so maybe I'll check some of the games there too. All the best and I'm glad you are fine! |

Here all is good(better with the stomach).Celebrated a wonderfull sleep with a tour in JWH´s good company. Also a kind of travelling.. Wife comming back from cinema and the temperature outside is for the first time in about two weeks dropping to more acceptable degrees. Soon(Friday) the opening match of the euros is comming up.France - ROMANIA !! See you up the road.
Auf wiedersehen. |

 | | moronovich: <Gashimov tournament is on the way> If you have found a way to travel back in time, please let me know ;) |
|
| Jun-09-16 | | virginmind: RIP Viktor Korchnoi! So sad that we have not anymore among us this giant of chess, Viktor the Terrible... Weather has been unexpectedly fine (sunny with cvlouds) until yesterday, when rain settled in. Today rained all day. We were planning a day trip to Bad ischl and Hallstatt tomorrow, but if rain continues we will cancel. Still we wisited a lot of Salzburg and it is an incredibly charming city, comparable to Prague in its uniqueness. We are yet to go to the fortress at the top of the mountain near the city, but who knows, if weather will allow. 2 days ago I had an extremely an episode of extremely strong dizziness, coupled with nausea and visual vertigo and sweating, it took some 2-3 hours before deciding to call the ambulance, went to the hospital (aided by the assistants, as I was not able to move my head/body without extremely worsening the dizziness/nausea/visual vertige, not even move while in bed) and at hospital the doctor after examination told me I had a paroxystic vestibular syndrom and advised me what do some exrcoises at home with the head/body while in bed and to return at hospital if symptoms continue - fortunately the acute symptoms disappeared and I could walk etc. All the best! |
|
Jun-09-16
 | | moronovich: So sorry to hear about your dizzynessattack. It must have been a tough time you experienced...but to my knowledge paroxsysic vestibular syndrome is a condition which can be cured.I really hope you will not experience it again on your trip and that your excercises will help you!On an otherwise fine trip were Salzburg seemed to turn out as a most pleasant surprise. So I cross fingers and everything ells that tomorrow will be good and you will visit the forttress.
And good/sunny weather wouldn´t hurt,nést pas !? ;)
I have had a couple of fine days and am looking forward to the Euros tomorrow where your compatriots are stating out against the home team and the favourites from France. And hope you will make a good performance. Yes,RIP Victor Korchnoi. What a player and fighter he was.Bagiou 1978 as his careers highlight.I recall when I was vagabonding in Geneva and there on a banque (!!) they had put up a big board with the famous adjourned position from the 13th matchgame!...Unnescessary to say I grabbed my little travel set and analyzed and analyzed.Rooting for Victor all the time. And learning a hell lot of chess at the same time.Oh,those were the days.. Bed time is approaching, but please, take care. And all the best,to your wife as well. See you around ! |
|
| Jun-13-16 | | virginmind: Hi moronovich, thank you for your kind words. We're back to Vienna since yesterday, and in the past days I continued to be somewhat dizzy at times but far from the extreme episode I experienced on June 7. We finally decided to go to Berchtesgaden and Konigssee as it was closer to Salzburg and we had a lovely day, sunny and with stunning views of the Bavarian Alps (we also took a boat trip along the lake). The next day we went indeed at the fortress in Salzburg but unfortunately it was cloudy and somewhat rainy, so the wiews from the towers were not great.
Today we visited the painting section from the Kuntz museum in Vienna but only stayed some 2.5 hours as headache settled in - we nevertheless admired most of the important painters' works.
Tomorrow back to Bucharest by plane then take the car we left there to return to Iasi. Great trip overall. I see Carlsen no longer finished first in a blitz/rapid supertournament un Paris, letting Nakamura to grab the crown. I've seen the match of Romania and hoped for an equal game but it was not to be. England-Russia was interesting. Cheers to you and see you around. |

 | | moronovich: Good evening and good to hear rom you again !
Just a short one as wife is waiting with her famous shrimptart :)After a day with KJ and the neeedleman(stomach fine, knock wood)and Iceland-Portugal comming up.Not a bad program,eh ? Really hope that your dizziness will continue to lower and vanish...Wife once gave me a tip:using seasickpills!
Didn´t work with me(almost 10 years ago),but who knows with you!?... Berctesgarden is also on my invinsible bucketlist!
Wish you will have a good homecomming and going to post you soon again!
And sorry about the missing result vs France. You played a brave and good match. Hoka Hey
And all the best. |
|
| Jun-20-16 | | virginmind: Romania left the football tournament last night after playing a lousy match against Albania... At least we have the rapid/blitz tournament in which Magnus shines as usual (after a bad start). Seriously, now, this is a Magnus era, what do you think? I don't believe anybody can deny that, just as we had a Kasparov era and a (very short) Fischer one. Can't say how long it will be or if his domination will be of the same caliber as it's since 3-4 years, but chances are he'll keep this pace for another 3-4, at least. Of course, there are the other youngsters around him (I don't include Kramnik and Anand anymore, not that they don't fully deserve it, but because they most probably won't stay there (around 2800 kevel) enough time. Or will they? Time and again both Anand and Kramnik show resources to jump again up there where they belonged for so much time...so you never know actually. One thing is sure: we are definitely being spoiled, both with the advantages internet has to offer for chess following, and with this existing pool of extremely good players: legends still kicking hard up there, a future legend proving himself year after year, and a bunch of top notch players determined to give him a hard time, and succeeding it, while striving for their own to get there: being number one. Preparing for the last day of blitz in Belgium, which as I read starts 2 hours earlier. Na shledanou! |

 | | moronovich: Hi !
Good to see you again.I was jus about to getting worried, after your dizzynessattack...So hopefully you have arrived well and that your condition is ok or better !?... Yes it seems like we are living in Carlsentimes. With difficulties to see a real challenge to his throne...time to watch and try to learn from the master. At least that is what I try. Here, conditions are ok/fine and I am trying to enjoy the euros despite all the tactical encounters with only few goals and almost no one has really impressed. And sorry that your team has to leave so early after the good start against France ):But it is a tough competiton.Spain,Italy and Germans are the best looking so far. With France shortly thereafter, then England,Poland,Belgium. No other country can claim the title IMHO. That was it for today and all the best to you from here ! p.s. haven´t had the time to watch the rapid and blitz, mainly due to footbal :) |
|
| Jun-21-16 | | virginmind: Yes we're back safely and dizziness' gone, I will probably go see a doctor these days but there's no rush. A bit surprised that football took priority in front of chess for you these days, but understandable so - we only get to watch an European football tournament once in 4 years :) And of course al the excitement seeing so many great teams fighting for 3 weeks... The groups phase it's nearing the end, Russia is sent home too and who else? We're gonna see tonight. Ciao! |
|
Jun-22-16
 | | moronovich: Good afternoon !
On my way to meet KJ and later after diner, PK,so a big day for me.Missing the games, but what the heck, one can and shall not get everything.I suppose the players are playing and not depending on who watches :) Good to hear your dizziness is "under control" and no rush to see the doctor. Here it is getting hot in the days to follow, but then it should go back to normal.Yesterday it was the longest day and night and a special thougt it is:that from now on the days are getting shorter. And so are the number of teams in the Euros.Do you follow it ? Just a short notice and all my best wishes and auf wiedersehen ! |
|
| Jun-23-16 | | virginmind: Yes I follow it from time to time, but never gave it too much attention, when something else more interesting was at hand, or from other reasons. All good here, except it's too hot sice a few days. Actually, it's not that hot (30-32 Celsius) but humidity is high and its an unusually long period with such temperatures for June. And they say it will only get worse. For tomorrow we expect some rain though, hopefully it's gonna get better. So as you can see, even though I prefer summer/warm time, extremes are to be avoided nonetheless...:) Now into the eighter finals (of how do you spell it?) with football, let's see who's tougher. See you around. |
|
Jun-24-16
 | | moronovich: Good afternoon !
Could be it is called the eighter finals !? Or what ells..Will ask wify, she is the english expert :) Here it is also humid and quite warm, but with a forecast that says it gonna be less warm.Good!Extremes are to be avoided as you points out. Nothing special to write about, besides that the old body seems,so far, today to coopperate on all levels today, and if this
is an extreme I am suddenly a fan of extremes :) And had a very nice day at town on wednesday. On of these summernights that seems to last forever. So let me wish you,and your wife an ejoyable weekend and may you cope with the temperatures in the best possible way ! See you around.Any plans for the weekend !?
p.s : it is a little bit more than ok that they resume the euros tomorrow ;)
Though it is also fine with a break. |
|
| Jun-25-16 | | brankat: Only 1,124?! :-)
How have You been? |
|
| Jun-25-16 | | brankat: Oops, 1,214! |
|
Jun-26-16
 | | moronovich: Hi <brankat> !
Good to see you around again!
And I am doing fine, all in all, good to enjoy life and is blessed with a wonderfull wife, good friends,a nice house, healthy economy. 1.214 is no deal.I am not really into this leg and it is not my cup of tea with all these small pools in an neverending stream of daily betting on
also lesser known players. But I see you are doing very fine,so I am still cheering for you my old mate ! And how are you doing ?
Cheers and all the best ! |
|
| Jun-26-16 | | brankat: I'm mostly all right, although the health has been somewhat declining, which is normal, just like the playing strength of a chess player as he gets older :-) Underwent a couple of surgeries in last ten months and am still in a recovery stage. You are right about the bookie game. Very boring without Pick-3's. Can't get any appetizing odds. Who wants to bet on 3-1? By the the time You place, say $200 on it, it'll be 1.6. May as well not bet at all. I'm doing OK in standings thanks to a 1 P-3, and 1 DD, a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully, the Bookie will smarten up before the end of the leg, and give us a chance to live dangerously and in an adventure :-) |
|
Jun-27-16
 | | perfidious: Hmmm....I seem to be about the only completely healthy poster in these pages; I hope it changes for all of you, a decent bunch of guys here. <brankat>, it is good to have you back, friend! May you regain your strength. |
|
| Jun-28-16 | | virginmind: <perfidious> I am not ill because I don't feel ill, or rather I donn't want to feel so. I feel young so I am young. I must be optimistic so I am because it gives me strength to feel healthy and it works, most of the time. Sometimes it doesn't, it's true, and I wonder why. <brankat> I too wish you a quick recovery! I've followed Croatia-Portugal and thought that you've deserved more to qualify to the quarters. <moronovich> I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together! :) Can you imagine I once had all, virtually all Beatles' songs recorded? What a disapointment Spain last evening - less the last 20 minutes or so, but it was too late for them - a bit strange though. Anyway, Italy deserved to qualify, quite a few clear ocasions and those two goals...I haven't seen England's match against Iceland, was it that bad? Bye. |
