"Play the board AND the man ! ".
But mostly the board.
Was born in Elsinore,Denmark,1953.And I am still proud of it.As I hope everyone is proud of hers/his startingpoint.

In many aspects life and chess do mirror each other IM experience. As science and belief goes hand in hand.So many "rules of thumbs" and many "exceptions" from the rule. I do agree with Bent Larsen who once said that someone who cannot contain a paradoxe is not using the full capacity of his brain.Actually I am convinced that there are no parodoxes, but perspectives which are more bright or flexible than others...

Though some obviously are borned under more easygoing circumstances than others,I will second our esteemed fellowkibitzer <zarg> who underlines that "luck" is also somehing that we create ourselves. Ourselves, but also together IM experience.
I try to live my life as if Jesus or Buddha knocked on the door , I would wellcome them as friends . And if they didn´t show up, it would be fine anyway.

Aug-15-16  virginmind: Romania lost 27-28 last night to Norway in women's handball and no realistic chance to qualify further - unless Angola beats Spain. Which is not impossible after all, who would had predicted Nishikori to beat Nadal for the bronze medal? And So winning Sinquefield, we got a lot of action last night...

Great to hear about those magic moments you shared again with SWH (and spontaneous nonetheless!), but I don't remember telling me about your wife's condition which she had to nurse. Or did I wrongly understand?

Lovely day outside and in the afternoon we plan to visit a certain place some 60 km near Iasi with my wife and two friends.

All the best!

  moronovich: Good evening !

Sounds like you are having a fine time these days !? And did you also enjoy St Louis ? I was again impressed with the commentators who grows in my respect for each time I see them. And Wesley impressed me in the interviews, were he sounded more mature and deeper into chess,as well as the strategy of the tournament player.SO kudos to him.

No,nothing wrong with my wifes condition. Was just referring to her tiredness on that day,but my English is not always up to the task :)

Here it is getting hotter and it is a pleasure to be less dizzy than normal!

All the best to you too!

moronovich: Oh,and I forgot to say that it was reassuring to see Anand and Topalov being able to compete on this high level with the youngsters. And Aronian too.
Aug-16-16  virginmind: Hi. Sorry I misunderstood your message regarding your wife. Yesterday afternoon we've been in the local botanical garden, instead of that village near Iasi, and it was a very pleasant experience, as this garden is indeed one of the few places in our city where I really enjoy being/strolling around.

Of course I've enjoyed following Sinquefield and So loooks thoroughly deserving of his number one place finish. What I didn't enjoy was the disappointment I felt after finishing the (long) novel of Murakami I was last reading. After being so delighted with his novels up to now, finding one (the longest) that is not up there in quality among the others...annoyed me. As about the olympics, I believe we have the smallest crop of medals so far in ages. Specifically regarding gymnastics, we've got no medal and I hear this didn't happen since 1972. What will become of this country...? :)

Starting this morning I began to take a certain pill for the dizziness and barred hearing in my left ear, which are supposedly given by this vertigo, it's called betaserc. So far no effect, but it's certainly too early to tell.

And then of course, life is beautiful. Last week I was very close to adopt a small cat, but finally quit the idea. Take care, as usual.

  moronovich: Good morning !

On this beautifull sunny day.Seems like a golden rule here:What we miss in July is August making up for.Good old August :)

<Aug-16-16
delete virginmind: Hi. Sorry I misunderstood your message regarding your wife>

But you were in good faith !
Hope the pills will do you good.
And yes I guss I understand your excitement about botanic garden(s).Lived very close to one for 5 years and it was always a pleasure to go there.Like a temple,a pocket were time stands still. And all the smells, not to mention the light.Especially during the dark period of the year it is the perfect place to recharge the batteries.Almost like a tiny(but significant)vacation !?

Today is a grand day were I´ll see two of my friends in town.Especially looking forward to see PK whos been in America with his wife and 2 daugters for more than 2 weeks. And then some german pints ;)

You too, take care and see you around!

ps.:It is also fine to have a break from the Olympics.

Aug-18-16  virginmind: Hi, dizziness yesterday and went to the hospital and the neurological doctor sent me for an MRI which I just did and will find out the result tomorrow morning. In the mean time dizziness' gone. Everything's under control :)

Last day for the olympics (it takes only half the time of the football championship!) and it's been pretty cool, yesterday watched 2 women fight in free style, and after the finish the loser started to cry and cry seated on the floor, and when eventually the arbiter called her to shake hand and to raise the hand of the winner she still didnt feel like complying and cried. Oops :)

We also live fairly close to this botanical garden so we can walk to if we feel like. America, yes, should be interesting memories to share from your friend, also depending on which places they visited.

Bye-bye.

Aug-19-16  virginmind: The result of the MRI shows 2 new lesions as compared to the latest one - from 2010. Doctor says I should enter the program with Interferon, I said pass. Then she gave me prescription for Medrol. I bought those, but will wait until after we return from Bulgaria, as they say these attack the stomach, so better stay clear of such stress while driving. The MRI didn't find anything wrong in the internal ears though. So far so good.

  moronovich: Hi´!

I take "so far,so good" means you are satisfied with the bottomline!? So far. I sincerely hope your decissions will go your way and no grave obstacles on the bulgarian trip, which sounds like a great opportunity.

Here weekend has started on another sunny day. With wife sitting peacefull in the couch and reading a ladies magazine after a successful week with her job, which she appreciates so much. Meanwhile yours truly try do do some magic in the kitchen.POtatoes with pork makes it smell like Christmas;)

So all is fine her and I wish you both a fruitfull and healthy weekend.Any plans ?

Googled Medrol and it sounds like it could be worth a consideration to take an extra dose of calium and hopefully I dont sound too much like a selfpromoted wannabee doctor !?

See you around and take care.

moronovich: And if you haven´t seen the video "Ultimate Moves" from the St Louis,it is hereby highly recommended. Very funny and easy going stuff !
Aug-20-16  virginmind: Right. Well, I will see about that. Hopefully I won't need to take them. Yeah, I've seen that video 2 days ago, quite funny and rare stuff to have those super GMs socialising while playing chess for fun.

Alone today as wife left for the mountains with 3 friends. And a good weekend for you!

Aug-22-16  virginmind: Congratulations, the handbalists from Denmark took the gold medal in the last day of the Olympiad! And by the way, of course it lasted 16 days - not 14 as I previously mentioned.
Aug-22-16  virginmind: Another nuisance coming up of late is a swollen/painful varicosity in my right leg, threatening the serenity of a long drive Iasi-Balcic-Iasi that's aproaching. I'm thinking of buying a pair of compressive long socks, I hear these help. Wouldn't go to the doctor though, as I fear his telling me I shouldn't drive for so long in this condition - I don't want to spoil my vacation.

  moronovich: Good afternoon !

A fine weekend it was. With the culmination of winning the olympic gold in handball versus the almost unbeatable frenchmen who have won their 8 ! last finals.A big relif and celebration time.I think the whole country went bananas :)And did I mention for you, that my grandpa once met the guy who invented handball ? A doctor who lived north of Copenhagen. So in a way, handball came back yesterday. Were I for the first time in ages went for a little endless walk during the final 10 minuttes :)And thank you for your kind words of appreciation.

<I'm thinking of buying a pair of compressive long socks, I hear these help.> Sounds like it could be worth a try !? With more to gain than to lose...I´ll keep my fingers crossed that you make the right decission(s).

On this otherwise silent and quit monday I beg you farewell and send all my best wishes, also for your health !

Another olympc comming up soon. The 1th of September I think.Sweet September.

(I think I once heard that September comes from the Roman calender. Sept=7.The seventh month of the year,in their book.

Arrividerci.

Aug-25-16  virginmind: So your father met the inventor of handball, isn't this cool...! Yeah, I guess sometime at the beginning of sept. chess olympics are going to start. We'll be in Bulgaria though. I didn't buy compressive socks as yet, still procrastinating for some reason. This morning some trace of dizziness, we will see about that. Other than that fine. See you soon, <moronovich>!

  moronovich: Good morning !

Just a short notice saying I am still alive :)

Hope everything is ok and that you will have a fine weekend.Still it feels like it is weekend more often than it really is ;)Time flies...

May be we can go to the seaside soon and have brunch, but it depends on my old body.---This is the last day with hot summer so,fingers crossed. And fingers crossed, that your dizziness will stay put, under lock and key.It is almost and order! ;)

All the best and see you around !

Any plans for the weekend ?

Aug-29-16  virginmind: Heya, preparations under way, forecast says not too warm in Balchik 1-8 Sept. which probably won't let us bath in the sea, but we'll use the hotel pool. At least it won't rain. And we will take profit to visit some other towns in the area.

Thank you for crossing fingers for me too, dizziness' gone! Did you have brunch at the seaside? All along it was a beautiful and "normal" summer here, and still is.

See you around.

moronovich: <Thank you for crossing fingers for me too, dizziness' gone!>

Wauw, that is good news.So all is ready for a nice trip to Balchik, right ?

And yes,my old body allowed us a very nice trip to the seaside saturday. Wednesday and Tuesday in town with friends were it is always good to explore areas away from my normal daily "dizzy-like rythm".

Right now following Vuelta de Espana.
Kind of visiting the mountains when I cant, for the time being, go there in a traditional sense. And looking forward to the olympiad and curious if it is catching or just "another day on the office".

Glad to hear your weather seems like your kind of weather.

So on this quite monday evening I beg you farwell and looking forward to hear more about your trip.

Arrividerci and all the best for your bulgarian adventure !

Sep-03-16  virginmind: Greetings from Balchik where the weather is superb and the sea temperature rather cold. The town is beautiful, with a well maintained local specific in houses and gardens. We stay at a hotel close to the sea shore (no beach though, only scattered rocks). One of these days we plan to visit Varna and Nessebar.

Haven't had time to watch the olympiad, gonna look it up soon. All the best from a very warm seaside!

  moronovich: Good afternoon !

And thanks for your postcard from Bulgaria ! I really hope that you both will continue the journey in the same good way.The weather too,as well. And here weather is fine.An absolute mix between autum and summer.Fresh and sunny.

Caught a cold yesterday, with bad throut. But a miracle sleep in my new bed means thatit is over now.Topped with less dizziness, life is good. And that is good ;)

Havent had time to see the olympiad, but the big clashes will soon come.So if it can be paired with the Vuelta de Espana I´ll be there.

Take care and see you up the road.

And a little music tip:If you like the Boss, go and google "Dream,Baby Dream". The "Vevo" version.Very life reassuring.

Ciao!

Sep-07-16  virginmind: Hello my friend, looks like you're very much into cycling. Actually I have to admit it's pretty cool watching the tours, quite some action and you get to see some nice scenery too.

Tomorrow we leave Balchik, the weather was excellent all week and we did a few side trips too. We gonna spend another night on a cute Bulgarian town on our way to Iasi.

In the olympiad our teams are doing not bad, especially the women. And in the open section, Lupulescu managed to draw Carlsen, quite a feat for him! I'm glad you feel better and I send you all the best. See you around.

moronovich: Thanks for your postcard from Bulgaria !
It sounds like a very good trip with good spirits and health, nest pas !? So plaese continue and I send you all the best wishes for a safe return !

I am doing fine..still less dizzy(knocking all the wood on the size of Amazonas;).Had a wonderful trip to town yesterday with an oppurtunity that sudenly opened and I grabbed the chance.Pure bonus :).And yes cycling such as TDF and the Vuelta suits me very well. And you too,I see !...Yeah the scenery.A lot of almost nothing happens half of the time. But then, someone sacrfices a pawn..

Good to see you your teams are doing so well...but when spring comes we are not friends for like 24 hours:)Romania-DK,football...Our team looks stronger now.

Have just watched the VEVO video again with Springsteen and "Dream Baby Dream".It is just SO lifeconfirming and moving and again it cam be higly recommended !

See you and all the best wishes.

Sep-12-16  virginmind: Hi!
Safely back from Bulgaria, where we visited quite some charming places - cape Kaliakra, Balchik, Varna, Nessebar, Veliko Tarnovo. Some dizziness here and there along the way, pleanty of headaches and ocasionally periods of insomnia, but nothing that could spoil an otherwise excellent vacation.

Followed the Olympiad when possible and after a good start both our teams fizzled, which I've noticed almost always happened in these sort of events. And yes, we're gonna compete in football in spring, you're right, Denmark has the better team at the moment.

Not much happening here, wife went back to work and I first thing in the morning went to give blood samples for the routine check on my thyroid problem.

It's shaping up a beautiful day, the warm period is prolonging well into september here. See you around.

moronovich: Hi and welcome back !

It pleases me to hear that you managed to have a fine trip, despite your obstacles, which I sincerely hope will vanish or significatly diminish(is that the word?).

Here things are as good as they get.
My new bed is now almost my best friend. And a good nigths sleep wont lower the dizzines, but makes it "easier" to bear.

The late sunny summer as well as in your place is still here and that is fine, but I wont complain when more human temperatures set in :)

And yes:Our teams usually come back in the standings as you observed. But the Germans won the European championship,3-4 years ago as perhaps the biggest upset of all times, chesswise.(odds here at CG 1450:1 !!) So we can keep on dreaming. And kudos to the American team who won with the smallest of argins....I never really got into it.Somehow the Vuelta caught me :)

That is it for now.The beefs and potatoes dont make themselves ;)

Take care and see you around !

b.t.w.: how was the bulgarian cuisine ?

Sep-16-16  virginmind: Yes, it was a splendid trip. Bulgaria is cool, mostly. We didn't get much of its food taste though, as we cooked ourselves in the apartment's kitchen. We only went twice out for dinner/lunch and just took fish and sea food.

So you have a new bed, great, I should replace mine too. Along with other small repairments within the house which I keep postponing.

Nothing much at the horizon chess-wise, other than the match for the world title. It should be exciting times in November.

Here life has got its usual daily routine, more or less. We're fine and moving along. Cheers!

  moronovich: Good afternoon !

sorry for beeing just a little late, but something with my throat came across and everything is well now.

Glad to hear your trip was fine and the apprication of everyday life. And the same here.In my retirement everyday is a kind of sunday and vacation...kind of :)

Now we are going to town to see something called "The Old Town",a reconstruction of the life 200 years ago in Århus.Just a little visit, enjoying the late summer at its best:Cool and warm at the same time. With a very fresh breethe of air and the promise of the autumn lurking just around the corner...

Perhap sa prelude to the big match "soon" comming up.Any take of the chnces for the players ? I´ll say 80-20 or at least 75-25 in favour of Carlsen.Less if it had been on russian soil :)

Wife is shouting !

See you around & take care.
