Behold the fiery disk of Ra!

Started with tournaments right after the first Fischer-Spassky set-to, but have long since given up active play in favour of poker.

In my chess playing days, one of the most memorable moments was playing fourth board on the team that won the National High School championship at Cleveland, 1977. Another which stands out was having the pleasure of playing a series of rapid games with Mikhail Tal on his first visit to the USA in 1988. Even after facing a number of titled players, including Teimour Radjabov when he first became a GM (he still gave me a beating), these are things which I'll not forget.

Fischer at his zenith was the greatest of all champions for me, but has never been one of my favourite players. In that number may be included Emanuel Lasker, Bronstein, Korchnoi, Larsen, Speelman, Romanishin, Nakamura and Carlsen, all of whom have displayed outstanding fighting qualities.

Besides sitting across the board from Tal, I have a Lasker number of three and twos for world champions from Capablanca through Carlsen.

perfidious: While looking at things cautiously as we head for the home stretch, the race is coming to look more and more like a clear-cut defeat for the Tinpot Despot, and some of his tactics recently betray his uneasiness. Who knows what might happen if the results fail to go his way? All the maundering after losing the popular vote while winning the big chair would likely be as nothing against being roundly beaten this trip.

Another broadside soon to follow from the narcissistic leader of Delusiana, a propos of precisely nothing.

Boo effing hoo.

'Twas all them 'tough' questions, don't you know.

Oct-27-20  technical draw: <leader of Delusiana>. Very good perf. However my calculations say there will be four more years of Delusiana.
Oct-27-20  technical draw: All betting aside I have never seen so much hatred for a sitting president as I see for Trump. Now you can call me Joe naive but I really can't figure out why so much vitriol has been thrown since day one. It cannot be policy since he was being hammered before he took office. I have been around a long time and I have never seen anything like this.

Nixon was forced to resign because there was tons of evidence of malfeasance but there was not the palpable hate that I see with Trump today.

I hope this is not the beginning of mob rule.

chancho: Trump is a serial liar who spews lies 24/7.
He has scammed many people out of their money, has been a very amoral man, has treated the office as his personal piggy bank, and does not respect his oath of office or even the people he governs, since he divides them by their ideology and pisses on one group while kissing the other's butt. Other than that, what's not to like?
Oct-27-20  technical draw: <chancho> Here's the point. You say he has scammed people out of their money. How exactly did he do that?
Oct-27-20  technical draw: I never understood why George H. W. Bush lost his reelection. It seems it's hard for me to understand how an incumbent president can lose. Even tricky dicky won reelection. (of course Jimmy Carter lost but at least there was some reasons for his loss.)

chancho: Off the top of my head is the Trump U scam. He had to settle that to the tune of 25 million dollars.

There's lots of stuff out there.

https://www.google.com/search?ie=UT...

Oct-27-20  technical draw: <chancho> The Trump University affair was known before the 2016 elections and that didn't stop Trump from winning. There are scams and there are bad business decisions. Bernie Madoff is in jail for scamming.

chancho: Regarding H.W. losing to Clinton in 1992 that was a huge surprise. I remember a poll after Operation Desert Shield that had his favorables at around 95%.

But domestic issues were what lead to his defeat. "Read my lips no new taxes."

Trump's economy is so much worse than that the very notion that he can get four more years sounds insane to me.

But sh.it happens.

Oct-27-20  technical draw: I am not on any side. In fact I don't think any president makes much difference. I have seen presidents come and go since Kennedy and everything seems to work out ok. Even Nixon's resignation didn't cause major problems. I think Wall Street's ups and downs is what can cause major upheaval regardless who is president.

perfidious: <chancho>, I also recall Bush pere looking a runaway winner in early '92, and he may well have won anyway if Ross Perot had not come in and snatched some disaffected voters from the Republican side of the ledger.

perfidious: More tall tales from the master, Pinocchio:

<"No," Trump answered. "People that you haven't heard of. They're people that are on the streets. They're people that are controlling the streets. We had somebody get on a plane from a certain city this weekend and in the plane it was almost completely loaded with thugs wearing these dark uniforms, black uniforms with gear and this and that. They're on a plane."

"Where was this?" Ingraham asked.

"I'll tell you sometime, but it's under investigation right now, but they came from a certain city, and this person was coming to the Republican National Convention, and there were like seven people on the plane like this person, and then a lot of people were on the plane to do big damage.">

chancho: Wisconsin today: 5,200 Covid cases, 64 deaths.

A US president is supposed to be focused on <helping the American people,> not what this imbecile is doing with his super spreader events!

perfidious: Another excursion into his favourite land, Delusiana, whilst many others' lives are irrevocably changed, if not snuffed out:

<'Voters are judging me on a lot of things, and one of the things we've done a really good job on is COVID.

We would have million people [sic], right now, we would have millions of people dead. Two million people. They were projecting 2.2 if we didn't do what we did.'>

perfidious: Worst sob story I've ever heard, other than, of course, those emanating on an everyday basis from 1600 Pennsylvania, home of someone who is hard done by, every day of his wretched existence.

Laura Ingraham has got to be one of the least attractive women I have laid eyes on in some time--even switching horses and going to the Left could not improve that shortcoming.

Some of these people were taken to hospitals for hypothermia.
