| Nov-23-11 | | Jim Bartle: I always like the stroganoff flavor. |

 | | WannaBe: <Phony> Would you like to be added to the User: fics list? |
Nov-23-11
 | | Phony Benoni: <WannaBe> I'd rather not, since I play so seldom. It can be several months between visits. |

 | | WannaBe: 10-4, good buddy. |

 | | WannaBe: Test Monday, after y'all are well fed (up) with Toikeys.... http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/7... If Joe Smo spend 6 years with Detroit Tigers, and in the last year of his contract, he is traded to the LA Dodgers, how much compensation will Detroit* receive?! Joe signed the contract in 2006 and the last year of his guaranteed/no trade (which he is willing to waive, provided that it is on his list of approvals...) |
| Nov-24-11 | | King Death: If I get the gist of that article, when Joe's traded during the season, they get nada. This changes things in a big way. As stated, no more scrubs get moved just to grab a draft pick. |
Nov-24-11
 | | WannaBe: Congratulations, you've just won a year supply of Rice-O-Roni, the San Francisco Treat!! (At this rate, I'll give away so much Rice-O-Ronis, I'll be broke by 2006.) |
| Nov-24-11 | | King Death: <WannaBe> Another change will be the end of the Type A and Type B pools the way we knew them. Looking at 2012, under the old system, Darren Oliver, who's my grandmother's age, would have been a Type A. Who'd give up a first round pick for a situational lefty? |
| Nov-24-11 | | Travis Bickle: <WannaBe> Mr Bunny, what is your calculations for a years supply of Rice A Roni? ; P |
| Nov-24-11 | | playground player: <Phony Benoni>, <Jim Bartle> As a special Thanksgiving present to you, I give you some names to conjure with: Harvey Keunn, Sam Jones, Doug Melvin, Milt May, Juan Berenguer, Larry Herndon, Dave Bergman... |
Nov-24-11
 | | Phony Benoni: <playground player> Sam Jones? What's a basketball player doing in there? Actually, these all seem to be former Tigers except for Doug Melvin, whoever he is. You don't mean Bob Melvin, do you? |
| Nov-24-11 | | Jim Bartle: That would be Toothpick Sam Jones, I think, who had a big year with the Giants in 1959. The Giants traded a pretty good player, future All-Star Bill White, to get him. Not a classic bad SF trade, though: the Giants were pretty well set at first base. My guess is that all those guys played both for San Francisco and Detroit. I would add a very important one for both teams: Darrel Evans. Great for the Giants, great for the Tigers. Milt May was #7 for the Giants, so the back of his uniform was of the few ever to announce a date. The Giants' announcers would always have him pose, back to the camera, every May 7. Harvey Kuenn was extremely popular in San Francisco for his short time there. Good hitting left-fielder, part of a formidable outfield with Felipe Alou and Willie Mays. Another one of those guys rarely seen without a huge chaw in his cheek. |

 | | Phony Benoni: Should have guessed. Just to redeem myself:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/f... Lions have been killing themselves with penalties all game, and now just gave Green Bay a touchdown following a turnover. This does not look good; it's exactly what they couldn't do. |
| Nov-24-11 | | Jim Bartle: 0-14 in third quarter. Looks like the Lions got 'em right where they want 'em. |
Nov-24-11
 | | OhioChessFan: Suh's dirty play cost the Lions big time. |
| Nov-24-11 | | YouRang: It seems that the Lions had a pretty inspired effort (0-7 in 3rd qtr) before Suh's idiotic penalty. But the penalty seemed to drain them, and now (near the end of the 3rd qtr) it's 0-24. This might have been the Lion's biggest game of the year. |
Nov-24-11
 | | Phony Benoni: This team is talented, but still not ready for prime time. They need to mature, or, if you prefer, grow up. |
Nov-24-11
 | | WannaBe: Sorry Phony, I was rooting for Detroit... |
Nov-24-11
 | | Phony Benoni: The Lions have been a patsy for years. As they've started to rebuild, they've cultivated a "You're not going to push us around attitude". This was good a while, even kind of cute if you can say that about the NFL. (Does any other sport have necessary roughness?) Teams now take them seriously, so it's time to move beyond that attitude. I appreciate the honesty of the kibitzers around here. Many fans here in Detroit are blaming the loss on the referees for favoring the undefeated Packers. |
| Nov-24-11 | | King Death: Suh can go to the Hall Of Fame one day, but he needs to learn how to make his attitude and aggression work for him and not against him. There's still time for him to grow up. |
Nov-24-11
 | | Phony Benoni: <King Death> Exactly. Paradoxically, away from the field he's a well-mannered and intelligent guy. But there are normal, well-adjusted people who, under the stress of competition, have trouble controlling themselves. It's not just football, of course. I'm sure we have all seen plenty of examples in the sedate world of chess. |

It's not just football, of course. I'm sure we have all seen plenty of examples in the sedate world of chess.> In my experience, Walter Browne comes to mind. He was a bundle of nerves but God help anyone who got out of line around him. He always had the attitude of somebody with something prove every time he got near a board. |
| Nov-24-11 | | Jim Bartle: in the world of chess, people who have trouble controlling themselves, phony benononi??? would you care to back that up, big guy?? |
| Nov-24-11 | | Jim Bartle: Hey, I typed that last one in ALL CAPS for effect, but chessgames apparently edits that out. |
Nov-24-11
 | | WannaBe: Just got more details on this Suh 'incident' still have not yet viewed the video tape of it, but I will tell you this: This is one of reason I love hockey, it will be handled, one way or another. You think somebody just breathin' on your goalie will cause a 'meeting' on ice?! If these two teams are in the NHL, I can guarantee, personally guarantee you, that next time they play, before the puck drops (or kick-off) you'd have so much fight, it makes UFC look like tea-party. I remember those old Red Wings-Avalanche fights, boy, those were FIGHTS, and dumb-azz P. Roy skated out, and challenged Vernon and Osgood, I was so happy to see Patrick get his rear-end kicked. <Jim Bartle> Try to hide one letter as non-cap, or try to sub 1 for capital I or zero for cap O... I believe that works. But have not personally try it yet. =) |
