 | | WannaBe: 1. CalTech have a baseball team?
http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/stor... I mean, I know they have a basketball team, because of this: http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angel... 2. They are called the Beavers? (I thought they're called Engineers, or is that Mass Tech?) 3. They had 10-year losing streak in baseball? That's no typo, T-E-N Years. http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/stor... 4. Surprised that Billy Beane didn't draft more CalTech players, knowing how smart they are/can be. |
Feb-10-13
 | | Phony Benoni: Beane didn't have a chance. All their players went to the Lakers. |

| Feb-11-13 | | Jim Bartle: WannaBe:
"Next thing you know, the ball'd be round and you can't touch it with your hands. =))"And a receiver who gets behind his defender before the ball is thrown will be called offsides. |
Feb-11-13
 | | Phony Benoni: One thing it would do is make the two-minute offense less effective, since it will be harder to get out of bounds. And on the safety front, won't it actually be harder to avoid getting hit in the field of play? But seriously, it would obviously be a big advantage for the speed guys; lots more offense with more room to maneuver, and the sideline will not be as effective a defender. Sheer discrimination. Make the field ten yards wide and give us slow guys a fighting chance. |

Feb-12-13
 | | WannaBe: http://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/do... I really, really, really, really, would like someone, to explain the first sentence of the second paragraph in that article to me. Please. |
Feb-12-13
 | | OhioChessFan: Wow. That got by an editor? Beyond the jaw dropping inanity of that statement, I can't believe this apparently factual statement: <Just three NFL teams fell below the average in all three categories in 2012: the Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles and St. Louis Rams. > What exactly <did> they spend their money on? Coaches? Cheerleaders? Fines? |
Feb-12-13
 | | WannaBe: Easy, Arz spent money on AC, Philly on sideline port-a-heat, and St.L on BBQ ribs. Still doesn't explain how journalism school(s) are turning out graduate(s) that can't write or compose a sentence that make sense. :-) |
Feb-12-13
 | | Phony Benoni: The point of the article seems clear enough. Every playoff team in 2012 spent at or above the league average in at least one of the categories of offense, defense, or special teams. The significance of this observation is another matter. Some teams "overspent" in one area, some in two, and San Francisco in all three. New England was below on both offense and defense, and exactly on average for special teams. So what's the big deal? By the way, who are the "Cheifs"? |
| Feb-12-13 | | Jim Bartle: I also wonder about the concept that spending more gets you better players. The article could just have easily have said the playoff teams did a better job of evaluating players. It's not as if salary is an exact measure of ability. |
Feb-12-13
 | | Phony Benoni: <WannaBe> Would that sentence make more sense if it began: "As general managers around the league <make plans> for next season..." |
