 | | WannaBe: I shoulda/coulda be a (workers') compensat'r (Since it's Oscar Night...) http://articles.latimes.com/2013/fe... Thank you, probably the most liberal state in the union. |
|
Feb-25-13
 | | OhioChessFan: Should they get the worker's comp benefits? Best point for each side: No. <furthermore, they could contribute to higher insurance bills for all California employers because more claims leads to higher rates.> Yes. <they pay California state income taxes on earnings for every game they play in the state, and every one of those matches takes its toll on their bodies. Those taxes could be significant, considering that the average professional player's salary last year was $5.2 million in basketball, $3.2 million in baseball, $2.4 million in hockey and $1.9 million in football.> |
|
Feb-26-13
 | | Phony Benoni: I can understand the logic as well as the needs of the players, but the idea of claiming such compensation still strikes at my "Common Sense" nerve. These funds were set up for citizens of California, not for those who live and do most of their work elsewhere. If they're upset because their state offers lousy benefits, they should sign with Oakland. |

| Feb-27-13 | | Travis Bickle: Hey Phony, with every baseball city looking around the corner to opening day us Cubs fans have an owner who's more interested in building a hotel near Wrigley Field and remodeling the Beautiful Confines with new seats at the fans expense of course, but not very keen on putting out a great baseball team. That said, is it too early to play a baseball tune with a nice video? Centerfield - John Fogerty

 | | WannaBe: <Travis Bickle> Where are they planning to put up the hotel? Left field by the fire station, or right field by the pubs, or behind home and tear down the McD's? (Yes, I've been to Wrigley. =) |

 | | WannaBe: Ya know, I wouldn't mind following the steps of Joe Montana, winning Super Bowl, go to a nice BBQ and Jazz/Blue city, riding off into the sunset. Dream career for all athletes. |

| Feb-28-13 | | Travis Bickle: <WannaBe> Mr Bunny, the hotel will be where the McDonald's used to be. see below. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/... |

 | | WannaBe: <Travis Bickle> It was quite funny when I attend the game at Wrigley (they were playing Florida with D. Willis pitching) and the McD turned their lot into paid parking. Chuckling over the fact that they'd make more money off the cars parked there than they would selling Big Macs. |

 | | Phony Benoni: If Lance Armstrong is getting bored, perhaps he should check out his local chess club. Here's a note from the <Charleston Sunday News> for June 4, 1899: <"The town of Macclesfield, England, affords a curious illustration of the increasing tendency of Chess to encroach upon seasons and pastimes with which it would appear to have no natural affinity. A desire for a wider field of operation than the ordinary town quarters having often been expressed by the cycling memebers of the Chess Club of that town, a Cyclo-Chess Club has been formed. The opening run was to Marton, where the members paired and indulged in the game until sunset. It is intended to hold weekly runs throughout the summer season, and whenever the weather permits all games will be played al fresco."> http://www.chessarch.com/excavation... That's about 12.4 kilometres (7.7 miles). Both towns are, appropriately enough, in Cheshire. |
