 | | keypusher: <WannaBe: First thing I do on my devices, is to turn OFF auto-correct.> I actually find it useful. Good to know I CAN turn it off, though. |
Jun-27-14
 | | Phony Benoni: So now we know how <WannaBe> beats his chess computer! |
Jun-27-14
 | | WannaBe: I usually use a sledge hamma!! |
Jun-28-14
 | | perfidious: <WannaBe> gets the job done, by hook or by crook! |
| Jun-28-14 | | playground player: <keypusher> "Palpatine," eh? I wonder which will go extinct first--knowledge or good manners. <Phony Benoni> So now you've got the system you need to preserve rare books, only you had to give up your rare books to get it? Whoever made that decision is wasted in your neighborhood. Send him to Washington! |
| Jun-29-14 | | playground player: I knew we were in trouble when they got rid of the card catalogue and computerized everything. Skynet, call your office... |
Jun-29-14
 | | WannaBe: Top 7th, H. Bailey throwing a no-no at Giants. |
Jun-29-14
 | | WannaBe: WannaBe works his magic again. No-No is No-Mo' |
Jun-29-14
 | | perfidious: King Felix allows one hit over eight, nine Ks.
Yawn--just another game. |
Jun-29-14
 | | WannaBe: Kershaw goes 7IP, 13K, 5H
Yawn--just another game. =)) |
Jun-29-14
 | | WannaBe: Okay, (semi) seriously, now. I consider Kershaw to be the best in NL, albeit, I am also a die-hard Los Angeles Dodgers fan. Who, y'all think is the best pitcher in AL? Tanaka for the Yankees? Felix Hernandez of Mariners? David Price? Or, if you win an MLB give away, you name 2 current pitchers, one from each league, and they'll pitch against each other, who would you choose? (This is like picking All-Star game starter, without the Sunday start restriction...) |
Jun-29-14
 | | Phony Benoni: <playground player> Nostalgia aside, computerized catalogs have been a boon both to users and librarians. About the only time that cards would be an advantage is when the power goes out. This weekend, I played in a brick-an-ortar tournament for the first time in a decade. Hadn't been planning to, but a few planets conjunctioned correctly and there I was. Rust and age showed, so I quickly passed the Point of Caring Anymore and ventured a Polish in the third round. It was a poor choice against this player; he knew how to play against it and had me on the defensive the whole game. I was lucky to escape into a pawn-down ending with bishops of opposite colors. |

Jun-29-14
 | | WannaBe: Weekend quad or was it a Swiss?? |
Jun-29-14
 | | Phony Benoni: Two-day Swiss. Two losses, two draws, and a Heaven-sent bye in the last round. Probably should have won the second-round draw and fourth-round loss. My friend who talked me into coming got a bye in the first round despite being the highest-rated player in her section. There were only five players, so each got a bye. Doubly thankfully, her last round game was finished byfore my bye was finalized, and we made a quick exit. |

Jun-29-14
 | | WannaBe: 8-5 Boston on top of the Yankees. Top seventh, will this game end before 6AM Eastern Time? |
| Jun-30-14 | | hangingenprise: phony: does this mean that you will be expanding your chess library and consulting various chess books again? |
| Jun-30-14 | | hangingenprise: chess will not let you forget or let you go. you will play again. boohaaha |
Jun-30-14
 | | Phony Benoni: The Ol' 6-2-5 Double Play:
http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/video... So, is this aggressive base running getting unlucky, or dumb base running receiving a just reward? |
Jun-30-14
 | | WannaBe: Did anyone notice anything strange with Sunday's schedule?? (June 29th). |
| Jun-30-14 | | Jim Bartle: Dumb baserunning. He had no chance of advancing, with the catcher holding the ball, so why leave the base? |
Jun-30-14
 | | Phony Benoni: ,hangingenprise> This will not be a trend. I didn't get a large amount of pleasure from the experience, and won't be repeating it anytime soon unless conditions are just right. |
Jun-30-14
 | | perfidious: SS playing in, already a three-run lead: why take the risk? I'm all for putting pressure on the other guy, but blind aggression got its just deserts this trip. |
Jun-30-14
 | | Phony Benoni: By the way, the tournament this weekend had a Lake Wobegon section, whre everybody scored 50% <or better>. Figure that one out. |
Jun-30-14
 | | WannaBe: Easy, half point byes. |
Jun-30-14
 | | WannaBe: If a pitcher gets a medical visit to the mound, does that count against the two visit and replace rule?? |
