 | | WannaBe: This is the article published on ESPN regarding DraftKing & FanDuel: http://espn.go.com/chalk/story/_/id... Apparently an employee for DraftKing played at FanDuel, and won second place & 25K prize money. So far, there's no report of FanDuel employee(s) playing at DraftKing and winning prize money, or an amount high enough to be noticed. Yet. Here's what I understand of how these Fantasy League works, I don't play them, but one of the regular at the watering hole do, and we chatted about it last week. Multi-tiered entry levels, the article in ESPN mentioned the $25 entry, my friend said it can go as low as $1 entry per team, and you are allowed up to 200 teams. You are then allowed a certain amount of "Salary Money", in this example, we'll say 10K. You then use that 10K to purchase/draft players for your team, e.g. R. Wilson 5K, R. Bush 1K, Megatron 3K, etc... Depending on how your "team" performs, you then get points for TDs, Receptions, Yards, Sacs, etc. "Team" with the highest points win (prize money).
My friend also told me, that 200 teams you can create? Very hard, as you have manually enter the player. There's no script you can write to automatically create the teams. And you can't upload your team via spreadsheet or as a text file. (which can be easily computer generated) |

 | | WannaBe: Let's say you have 3 really good options for QB and 3 for WR 3 for RB and 3 for LB & 3 for CB QB: A, B, C
WR: D, E, F
RB: G, H, I
LB: J, K, L
CB: M, N, O
Your first entry/team would be ADGJM, next entry would be AEGJM, then AFGJM, and so forth. It's really no different than playing a pick-6 at the race track, if you want all the combinations. So, do employees of FanDuel or DraftKing have more NFL player information than an "Average Joe"? Do they get more in-depth injury report than we can get from NFL.com or ESPN.com? The employees may have had access to which QB got drafted the most, or RB, WR. But does that really help? So, let's say everyone's hot on Andrew Luck, Indy hosting Jags, and JAX sucks, everyone knows it. I expect Luck to throw for 35,000 yards, 300 TDs against the Jags, but so do everyone else. Alas, Luck did not play... Guess who the best QB was in week 4 by passing yards? Drew Brees 359 YDs & 2 TDs. Second place? C. Palmer 352 YDs & 1 TD. How about this guy? Blake Bortles, ever heard of him? Plays for JAX, QB, he had 298 YDs and 1 TD. Will knowing B. Bortles was on 1% of DraftKing's roster aid your chance of winning on FanDuel? Or knowing 98% of players had R. Wilson on their team? Same as ChessBookie, I go and look at numbers, Svidler have 500cbs, Karjakin have 700 cbs and Draw have 4000cbs. But how does <Switch> always win? Does he work for DraftDuel? FanKing?? |

Do they get more in-depth injury report than we can get from NFL.com or ESPN.com? The employees may have had access to which QB got drafted the most, or RB, WR. But does that really help?> As I understand it, if you pick winners that goes into the pool of all the bettors who have won with those players. If your players were chosen by fewer bettors, that means the winnings are divided among fewer winning bettors. And only employees know how much has been bet on each player. The whole thing seems ridiculous to me. From what I read there is very little chance of winning a modest bit of money. You either lose it all, or make a huge killing (which of course is highly unlikely). There are people who make it a profession, working full-time on choosing teams and betting. Also, the advertising is blatantly deceptive, though anyone with intelligence will see right through it. I love the way they say, "you can win such and such on a $125 investment." That's like saying I "invested" $25 at the blackjack table. |

 | | WannaBe: Correction to my earlier post, $350K was won, not 25K. Quite a bit of difference in prize fund. http://money.cnn.com/2015/10/06/new... I've never visited those 2 sites, but I'll be willing to bet a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts that you can access who the 'HOT' players are. (Drafted by a lot of players) It's like a casino that have the last 20 numbers from the roulette wheel, or playing baccarat where you are allowed to keep track on a piece of paper. |
|
| Oct-06-15 | | Jim Bartle: I have no idea. What I do know is the vast majority lose everything and a few people win a large amount. It's not like horse racing or sports gambling (win or lose games, point spreads) where there's a good chance you can win a modest amount. |

 | | Phony Benoni: So apparently the NFL is examining the "Illegal Bat" rule, and is bringing in George Brett as a consultant. |

 | | WannaBe: G. Brett: "THAT'S NOT AN ILLEGAL BAT, YOU CRAZY UMP, M(*&^$, I'M GONNA KICK YOUR F(&%@! A**" In lighter news, Ichiro resigns with Marlins, projected to be their number 2 starting pitcher. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/1... DraftKing claims no unfair advantage over prize winning: http://espn.go.com/chalk/story/_/id... |

 | | WannaBe: J. Stark picks Toronto to win it all:
http://espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2015... But do keep in mind, he also picked Dukakis, B. Goldwater, A. Stevenson, and Dewey to win, too. |

| Oct-06-15 | | Jim Bartle: Ichiro's slugging percentage was .279?? |
|
Oct-06-15
 | | Phony Benoni: I fear Ichiro is going to Early Wynn his way to 3000 hits. |

 | | Tabanus: I had to give up on S Epstein. I can give you Matthew Meyer Epstein, but don't know if he played in any US Opens. |
|

 | | WannaBe: Chris Archer needs a hair cut. =)) |
|
Oct-06-15
 | | Phony Benoni: <Tabanus> Yes, a name like S Epstein is probably too much to hope for. |

 | | perfidious: Telling tweet from Bryan Hoch, illustrating Yankees' flawed roster: <Just so we're clear about finances: the $155 million ace gets pulled after five inning (sic), the $153 million CF is still on the bench.> In particular, I have long regarded Yankees' decision to sign Ellsbury to that contract as suboptimal, to put it mildly. The man had one terrific season, bookended by two which were spent largely on the disabled list. Would have liked Ellsbury to stay in Boston, but not at that price. |

 | | WannaBe: New York Attorney General have opened an inquiry into fantasy sports, if you go down into the link, there are 7 Q& A regarding timeline and what happened. http://espn.go.com/chalk/story/_/id... Looks like I lost that dozen donut bet, sites do not advertise/list hot or cold players in fear of rigging the game. |
|
Oct-06-15
 | | perfidious: <WannaBe> is stuck one dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts. No worse fate is imaginable; I had my druthers, I'd go for a big number at a table full of top pros before losing them dozen. |

 | | WannaBe: Okay, NYY is out... Will NYM follow? |
|
Oct-06-15
 | | Phony Benoni: And Houston moves on impressively, as the Yankees go quietly. Have to favor KC over the Astros. Toronto should be favored over the Rangers, but Texas certainly has a slugger's chance. There will probably be at least one game with a football score. |
|
Oct-06-15
 | | Penguincw: And the 2 bottom teams in the AL West last year both will play in the ALDS... Keuchel has 6 shutout innings, giving up just 3 hits. Tanaka didn't have too bad of a line score either though. Tomorrow, Pittsburgh will host the NL Wild Card game for the 3rd straight season. Wild Card Winner 3-3 in Game 1 of the LDS. |

 | | WannaBe: Time for lies, d@mned lies and statistics...
Season head-to-head:
HOU 4 - KC 2, Astros swept KC at home in late June, early July, and took game 1 at Kansas City (July 24), dropped game 2 in extra innings, then losing game 3 by the score of 5-1 TEX 2 - TOR 4, Rangers lost games 1 and 3 in Toronto on June 26 & 28, then lost games 1 & 2 in Texas before winning game 3 (Aug. 25 - 27) *July 31st was non-waiver trading deadline. |
|
| Oct-07-15 | | Shams: From the twitter feed *TweetsofOld":
<Base ball was played by electric light in Indiana last week, but the fielders had to carry lanterns to find the ball after a hit. ND1883> (I presume that means North Dakota.) |
