During the regular season, Toronto defeated Kansas City 4-3. but Kansas City will have home field. (Better over-all record, for you newbies that don't understand how play-offs work)

During the regular season, Toronto won 2 more game at home than KC, but KC won 4 more games on the road than Toronto.

Right before the All-Star break, Toronto lost 2 of 3 at Kansas City (Games 1 and 3). Then July 30-August 2 Toronto took games 1, 2, 4 at home, losing game 3.

I once saw a list of "best major league (batting) seasons at age 20." At the top of the list were Ty Cobb and A-Rod. So, no guarantee that anyone is going to like you, but a pretty good indication that you're going to be one hell of a baseball player, if you stay healthy. 150 walks at age 22 (or even your "age-22 season") is probably almost as good an indicator.>

For the record, Harper wound up with a measly 124 walks -- Williams' record is safe. They tell me Harper had a pretty good season overall, though.

The event that happened:

A. The pitch was a ball
B. On the return throw it hit Choo's bat

Question 1: So, the ball was 'live'. (If the return throw had gone into center field, the runner on third would advance, on his own risk)

What would have happened, if Choo had fouled the pitch off, and R. Martin's return throw hit the bat?

Or another way of asking: When is the ball dead, when is the ball live?

Question 2: After a foul ball, if the catcher is handed the new ball and he throws it into center, runner can advance(?)

The ball becomes live when the pitcher steps on the rubber with the ball.

I've seen numerous time in youth baseball where the hidden ball trick is allowed improperly when the ball is called in play when an infield has it.

Great win by the Jays. All the action took place in the 7th, which I guess could be called "inning of the century". Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to catch the game until the 8th...

Regarding the ball hitting the bat, oh come on, that should be ruled dead. If this happened in the KC-HOU game, the ball would be ruled dead. MLB just doesn't want a Canadian team to win it.

As for the beer and popcorn thrown on, not the first time it happened in an elimination game, during the 2 wild cards era. I recall in the 2011 NL Wild Card game, between STL and ATL, there was a controversial call regarding infield fly rule, and fans threw garbage on the field.

2 more things to say:

- If someone asked you to "umpire" a game between 2 amateur teams, would you call infield fly rule?

- Yesterday, a baby was hit with a beer can, and the fan was charged for doing so. Is that a good call?

I don't know how to answer the first question, but the 2nd one, oh c'mon. If you could afford tickets behind home plate, you could <surely> afford a babysitter or <something>. I doubt the little kid will even remember being struck with a can of beer even if it hit them in the head (no pun intended).

First time I've ever seen garbage thrown when the home team was on the fuel.

No way was that an infield fly. Would I call one in an amateur game? Assuming players were 13 or older, definitely. But every league has its specific rules.
