 | | WannaBe: <In the ALCS Escobar led off 3 of the games with a single, double and triple by swinging at first pitch fastballs...Harvey throws him first pitch fastball and he hits inside the Park homer. How has now hit for the cycle on first pitch ...first inning fastballs this post-season. He told me he is always going to swing at every first pitch fastball in the zone...Mets need to adjust in his next at-bats> Jim Bowden, ESPN |

 | | WannaBe: If you are watching the game on TV, upper deck, by/around left field foul pole, you'll see a section of orange. That's Mets employees and family member section. |

 | | WannaBe: This is from 2007:

But tonight, it was the first pitch!! Still waiting for Elias Sports to confirm that's the quickest/earliest run ever scored |

 | | perfidious: <Jim: Looked at the list of players with most ABs. I've seen eight of the twelve play. And three others on TV. I missed Ty Cobb somehow.> Always thought you were older'n Methuselah.
Shows what I know. |

 | | WannaBe: Thank you David Schonfield:
http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/p... Jeter in game 4 of the 2000 WS led off with a HR. But it wasn't game 1, first pitch. And he agreed that should be E8. 1-1 game. NYM just scored. |
|
| Oct-27-15 | | Jim Bartle: <perf> Cobb was in the AL, and in those days only NL teams came to SF. I did see the Red Sox play the Seals in an exhibition in 1957. |
|

 | | perfidious: <Jim> Managed to see six of the top eleven in ABs play live, plus Aaron in one time up on TV that we all remember. |
|

 | | WannaBe: I had to go allll the way to Adrien Beltre, LAD to say 'live'. Hope to see Ichiro at AT&T next year before he hangs it up. Think he's number 42 or 43 on the list... |
|
| Oct-27-15 | | Jim Bartle: I started in 1957, so I have an edge.
Mays: probably 25-30
Rose, Aaron: 4 each
Henderson, Musial: 2
Yastrzemski, Yount, Winfield: 1
Now if you combine Ichiro in US and Japan... |
|
Oct-27-15
 | | WannaBe: If you combined Ichiro in US & Japan, I still would not have seen him live. As he did not play in the last World Baseball Classics at AT&T. =)) I was at the semi-final game, where Japan got eliminated. |

|
Oct-27-15
 | | WannaBe: Funny info from ESPN radio announcers, KC and NYM have never won game 1 in their previous World Series history. And the game is tied at 4!!!
We're gonna go 30 innings in a tie game. =) |

 | | WannaBe: Midnight in New York, I think Wall St. by-law will allow opening to be 20 minutes later for every extra inning played. |

 | | Phony Benoni: Ah, yes. The only thing better than late October baseball is a 4-hour night game in late October. |

 | | keypusher: <WannaBe: <keypusher> You're in NY (?) if I remember correctly, you NYM or NYY fan?> Yankees, but I'm rooting for the Mets in this series -- shows I'm not much of a baseball fan, really. Went to bed when the Royals tied it in the 9th, since I had to get up at six. I care a lot more about the Dolphins than I do the Yankees. |
|
Oct-28-15
 | | keypusher: I've always been a little bit fond of the Royals because of my 1978 Strat-o-Matic and Bill James. Some teams were really hard to figure out, but the 1978 Royals had four clear starting pitchers and a starting lineup that seemed to consist of nine guys all hitting .290. They were the epitome of good-but-not-great. |
|
| Oct-28-15 | | playground player: <keypusher> Fond memories! courtesy of Strat-O-Matic. C-Darrel Porter, 1B-John Mayberry, 2B-Frank White, 3B-George Brett, OF-Amos Otis, Al Cowens, Tom Poquette, DH-Hal McRae (boy, could he hit!), and on the mound, Leonard, Splittorff, Hassler, Colborn... Hard to imagine what you'd have to add to that team to make it great. |
|

 | | Phony Benoni: <playground player>: A shortstop might help. I always liked Freddie Patek. And what about Willie Wilson? |

Hard to imagine what you'd have to add to that team to make it great.> In 1978? Ron Guidry, or a slightly older George Brett. Also, Mayberry was gone after showing up hung over during the 1977 ALCS, and the back end of the rotation was Larry Gura and Rich Gale. They finished 92-70 and lost the '78 ALCS 3-1, so yeah. Good but not great. They were at their best in 1977, when they won 102 games and lost a heartbreaker of an ALCS to the Hated Yankees. |

 | | WannaBe: Game 2, NYM -122 O/U 7.5
Which J. Cueto will show up? The one that gets pulled early and bullpen gets extra workout? Or will he go 7+ innings and get a quality start? |
|
| Oct-28-15 | | Jim Bartle: When is Elias going to tell us if this is the longest combined hair for starting pitchers in the World Series? |
