| Jun-28-16 | | Jim Bartle: Record is 18 total bases in a game, by Josh Hamilton. Bryant had 16. One of the doubles was a liner which could have been caught by the shortstop if he'd been positioned differently. But it was hit so hard that it almost reached the wall. |
| Jun-28-16 | | Party Animal: <Jim Bartle: Record is 18 total bases in a game, by Josh Hamilton. Bryant had 16.> Thanks for the info Jimbo, but let's give credit where credit is due. Kris Bryant did something that Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Ted Williams, Stan Musial & a Juiced up on 'Roids Barry Bonds didn't accomplish. You can't sweep that under the rug with some cheap stats. |
| Jun-28-16 | | Jim Bartle: That's a misinterpretation. I'm saying it's the second greatest EVER in a single game. What's wrong with that? When somebody has a huge game, it's natural to look at what the record is. And Bryant came damn close. By the way, this may cause a change in the way everyone pitches Bryant. All three homers were in fastballs up. He won't see many of those from now on, so Bryant can focus more on breaking pitches and pitches low. |
| Jun-28-16 | | Jim Bartle: Oops, read the record wrong. That's the AL record. Shawn Green had 19 for the Dodgers, and Joe Adcock 18 for Milwaukee. Bryant's day gives an OPS of 4.200. |

| Jun-28-16 | | Party Animal: Hey Phony, Jimbo & all baseball fans check out this story & video about many vintage baseball cards found in Boston. http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidse... Here's the youtube video.

| Jun-28-16 | | Jim Bartle: Oh man.
Like millions of kids from the 50s and 60s I wish I had held onto my baseball cards. I would be rich. But if all the kids had kept their cards, they wouldn't be valuable, would they? |
| Jun-28-16 | | Party Animal: <Jim Bartle> I had a collection of cereal baseball cards you cut off the boxes. My older cousin told me back then, "those cards aren't any good only the bubblegum cards". Well like most kids I threw away my useless cereal cards & years later there was a strong market for them. : ( |

| Jun-28-16 | | Jim Bartle: Coastal Carolina is known as the Chanticleers? |
Jun-29-16
 | | WannaBe: WannaBe: <JB> Yep. Correct. Now, which "Power" conference are they from? |
Jun-29-16
 | | WannaBe: Heheheh... Left the OAK/SF game after seventh inning stretch (caught a ride with a friend) and got dropped off at San Mateo where my car was parked. Got home in time to catch the top of the 9th, right now 13-9 Oakland, so glad there's no DH in NL ball parks, otherwise this would be 21-15 game. =)) Both bullpens have given up more runs than starters for each team did. Total of 12 relievers used in this game, so far. |
| Jun-29-16 | | Jim Bartle: <Left the OAK/SF game after seventh inning stretch (caught a ride with a friend)> Not a real fan. I bet you would have left that Yankee game in the ninth when it was suspended, not even waited through the three hour rain delay to watch it finish at 3 AM. |
| Jun-29-16 | | Jim Bartle: The 3-4 hitters in the A's/Giants game went 3 for 22, yet there were 24 runs scored. |
Jun-29-16
 | | WannaBe: <JB> Believe me, if it weren't for the free ride home (or else I wait for CalTrain with all the other fans), I would have stayed and see the pitching duel. Since Giants made it interesting with a coupe of HRs in the 9th. And the pitcher that got the save allowed 3 runs. Go fig. |
| Jun-29-16 | | Jim Bartle: I went to an A's night game years ago, can't remember against whom, and it went into extra innings and it was approaching one in the morning. We'd come on BART, which shut down at one. So we listened to the radio on the way home. I took CalTrain home after the Giants' game five win in the 2002 World Series. Everybody celebrating. Little did we know. |

 | | WannaBe: <keypusher> was asking about number of HRs hit per year few weeks ago. So this is for him: http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/p... |

 | | WannaBe: Don't they do this in Little League??
http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/1... |
| Jun-29-16 | | Jim Bartle: I umpired Pony League and once a pitcher was removed he could not pitch again, even if he stayed in the game. I had to show the rule to coaches so often that I started warning them about the rule before games. |

 | | Penguincw: < Jim Bartle: ... I bet you would have left that Yankee game in the ninth when it was suspended, not even waited through the three hour rain delay to watch it finish at 3 AM. > Not the only game to finish that late last night. In fact, it looked like a bunch of games finished late (all times listed in eastern time). The OAK-SF game ended 2:09 am. The CHC-CIN game 11:53 pm. The TEX-NYY game 9:45 pm (plus however long the delay was). And of course, the TOR-COL game last night ended at around 3:21 am. Check out the weather conditions though (nice job by the ground crew to clean everything up): http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2016/06/29... The last time a Jays game lasted this deep into the night was probably TOR-SD, which lasted 17 innings (and ended around 3 in the morning). The game started on May 2013, and ended the next month. |

Jun-29-16
 | | WannaBe: Okay, that 'trivia' answer, Coastal Carolina is from the Big South Conference. Game should start in about 15 minutes, winner take all. (The bases, home plate, pitching rubber, foul poles...) |
| Jun-29-16 | | Jim Bartle: Ping!! |
| Jun-29-16 | | Jim Bartle: Rain....
At least the Miami Hurricanes are not playing. |

Jun-29-16
 | | Phony Benoni: Two moe hits for Ichiro today, twelve more needed to reach 3000. He may be batting .342, but he is certainly slapp9ng his way to the goal, as his 53 hits this year include 47 singles and six doubles. His on-base percentage is thirty points higher than his slugging average, but that's not so remarkable. Ron Herbel did it over the course of his career. |
| Jun-29-16 | | Jim Bartle: <Two moe hits for Ichiro today, twelve more needed to reach 3000. > I thought Drabowsky retired years ago.
One of I assume quite a few pitchers with an 0.00 ERA in a World Series. Of course it came against the 1966 Dodgers, so rates an asterisk. |
Jun-30-16
 | | WannaBe: MadBum will be his own DH tonight.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/madiso... |
| Jun-30-16 | | Jim Bartle: But what's the rule?
If he leaves the game as a pitcher, can he remain as DH? If Boche wants to pinch-hit for him in the DH spot, can he continue pitching? If he is replaced as DH, can the new DH bat more than once, or is he in effect pinch-hitting? The DH is a joke. |
