Julio Urias done after 5 IP in a tie game. Still doesn't have a victory after six career starts. Clayton Kershaw didn't get his first career victory until his 10th start> So, Kershaw was 1-9????? |
| Jun-23-16 | | Jim Bartle: 1-3. There were no-decisions. |

 | | perfidious: <....Kershaw was 1-9?????> One might call Kershaw the antithetical Bobo Holloman, despite taking so long to notch that first win. |

 | | Penguincw: Hate to talk about politics, but apparently politics and baseball do share some common ground: http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2016/06/24.... |
| Jun-24-16 | | Jim Bartle: I remember a Congressional game, probably basketball, in the early 70s when each side had some tactics with interesting names. I only remember, The Haynsworth-Carswell Shuffle, when the Dems just kept moving one player and then another into the lineup until one could actually play. |

| Jun-24-16 | | Jim Bartle: I love the photo with Tom McMillen towering over everyone else. He was one of the first giant high school recruits, good but not great college player, longtime NBA backup. I wonder why Bill Bradley didn't play. |
| Jun-25-16 | | Party Animal: Yo Phony, we're back on track! The Cubbies snapped a mini slump yesterday with a 5-4 victory! We Have a rookie Willson Contreras who is really something. He's belted 3 Dingers already! ; P https://www.google.com/webhp?source... |

 | | Penguincw: In case you guys haven't heard, Pete Rose inducted into the Hall of Fame - the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame (number to be retired): http://m.reds.mlb.com/news/article/.... I still think he should be elected into the baseball HOF, with his achievements as a <player> recognized. Screw the fact that he gambled on his team as a manager (wouldn't really call it gambling, since he bet on his team to <win>, not lose). I don't think post-career actions should affect whether or not one gets into the HOF, especially something as petty as this. ---
While on this topic, does anyone have a link where I can view a list of people who were voted into the HOF, but failed to make it? |
| Jun-25-16 | | Jim Bartle: <(wouldn't really call it gambling, since he bet on his team to <win>> The opposing argument: If a manager bets on his team, that can affect his use of the pitching staff, trying harder to win some games than others. Same with deciding when to rest everyday players. |
| Jun-25-16 | | Jim Bartle: Speaking of pro athletes betting: While in college I witnessed a former Stanford player then in the NFL make a bet on the UCLA game with a current Stanford player, for a reasonable amount of money. The game ended in a tie (UCLA blocked a 35-yard field goal on the final play), and the terms of the bet were reviewed, and it was decided the bet was that Stanford would lose. So my friend was very happy with his money. Funny thing is, the NFL player became an important NFL official. involved in enforcing the rules. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <Party Animal> Tigers are back off track, losing to Cleveland last night after sweeping four from the Mariners. That's seven straight losses to the Indians this year! Just one of those things. Our rookie is Michael Fullmer, who got within an inning of Fernando Valenzuela's rookie scoreless inning streak, and now has given up two runs in his last 40 innings. That' probably can't last either. (Odd. My spell checker flags "Fullmer", but passes "Valenzuela". Gotta stop buying that WannaBe Software -- too many bugs.) |

Same with deciding when to rest everyday players. > Ah, good point. Not to mention, can cause injury if overworking guys. Perhaps someone with a ton of time can actually look at this more in-depth, but for now, I'll take your word for it. < The game ended in a tie (UCLA blocked a 35-yard field goal on the final play), and the terms of the bet were reviewed, and it was decided the bet was that Stanford would lose. So my friend was very happy with his money. > Funny thing. I always wondered what happened to bets when in the league like the NFL, a game ends in a tie. Ties are rare in the NFL, but under the current rules, they can happen. In MLB, a couple of years ago there was a LAD-WSH game that was rained out twice, so they just dropped it, but it had no playoff implications. But ties nowadays are going to require exceptional circumstances. |

 | | Phony Benoni: Sorry, I forgot about today. That's eight wins in a row for Cleveland over Detroit. Must be that LeBron fellow in center field. It's like he catches everything. |

 | | WannaBe: <Penguincw> Usually in football, there's a point spread, unless you're betting money line. In case of a tie with money line, all monies are refunded. In the case of point spread, there (usually) will be winner and loser. Unless, the spread matches the final scores. Then all monies are refunded, too. |
| Jun-25-16 | | Party Animal: Yo Phony, The Cubs got bombed by the lousy stinkin' marlins today. So much for progress. P.S. On a positive note we play Cincinnati 3 games up next. |
Jun-26-16
 | | Phony Benoni: Well, <Paaty Animal>, there is no need to grasp at straws. Just inject some of Iron Man McGinnity's DNA into Jake Arietta, and tell the rest of the staff to start the All-Star Break early. |
Jun-26-16
 | | Penguincw: Still early, but check out what the worst team in baseball is doing to the team with the most World Series rings (MIN-NYY). |

Jun-26-16
