Thanks!

Jun-30-18  NakoSonorense: France swept the floor with Argentina. The score does not reflect what actually happened on the field.

WannaBe: Looks like <zborris> & <sodal> missed the second stage deadline. =((

So we had 18 players, now 16.

12 people took France, 4 took Argentina.

11 people took Portugal, 5 took Uruguay.

WannaBe: Team/Country that received the most love (15): Croatia and Belgium.

Team/Country that received the least love (1): Japan and Denmark.

No every country received at least one pick out of the 16 players.

Jun-30-18  NakoSonorense: <WannaBe>

I'm organizing the WC pool at work. I got 43 people to join, which makes it really hard to win! Even with my "expert" insight, I am currently in 11th place. Some people who know basically nothing about soccer are doing better than me. Maybe I'll pick up some places in the knockout stage, but who knows.

I won it 4 years ago, but the prize was only about $150. The stakes are much higher this time!

I agree. That France team looked like mighty giants playing skinny Argentines.

I wasn't the one that picked Denmark, but I'm surprised they didn't get more love. If FIFA rankings are anything, Denmark is higher than Croatia.

Jun-30-18  Keyser Soze: <I agree. That France team looked like mighty giants playing skinny Argentines

And Messi the choker , as usual was a no factor with Argentina..easy pick.

Jun-30-18  Dr Winston OBoogie: <Morf: I am hoping/praying they play brilliantly against Brazil

They have the horses to beat Brazil.>

Amen! We're ALLLLLLLLL Mexican when BrazNIL play the great Mexico! C'mon Mexico!!! Those Brazilian babies will trash their favellas 😂

Jun-30-18  Keyser Soze: <"we allll"> = just Winston oboogie, a sad butthurted individual crying from Bradford who doesn't understand football.

Guess who is leading the standing now here?

Swell.

Good night lady.

Jun-30-18  technical draw: All those who picked Portugal please leave the room now.
Jun-30-18  thegoodanarchist: < Keyser Soze: <I agree. That France team looked like mighty giants playing skinny Argentines>

Actually it was a Messi shot deflected by a team mate that gave Argentina their only lead, 2 - 1. Your assessment is overly harsh.

Jun-30-18  thegoodanarchist: But in any event, Argentina didn't look even close to the 2014 team that got to the finals. They struggled in group stage and France looked powerful in group stage (first 2 matches, anyway).

The Argentines are too old now - need to get some new young guys.

And the French team is good enough to win it all, so I am not surprised at the result.

Jun-30-18  Keyser Soze: <Actually it was a Messi shot deflected by a team mate that gave Argentina their only lead, 2 - 1. Your assessment is overly harsh.>

*weak and bad shot deflected. That's was a stroke of luck, it wasn't an assist. Harsh why? Several European media overrated him and Ronaldo ad nauseam. I think what he delivered was too little for a guy who is painting as a Goat or ET. Again he wasn't the decisive guy..simple. He is not..

Fusilli: <NakoSonorense: France swept the floor with Argentina. The score does not reflect what actually happened on the field.>

Before the game, horrified by Argentina's horrible defense, I was predicting 4-1. Around minute 70, with the score 4-2, I was fearing 6-2 or 7-2. Argentina managed to exit much more honorably thanks to the offensive potential of its superstars, but with a defense that leaves huge holes and is always running after attackers from behind because of a mangled midfield too, it was never a contender for the title. If in addition to weak coaching you have a team populated by 30-somethings against the young and speedy French, then this is what happens.

Fusilli: BTW, my wife is French (and I am Argentinian), but we kept it civil! Besides, I have no idea what she was saying! (Well, a little, and it sounded cute.) Now she has bragging rights for the next four years.

Not much.

My first two picks both lost!

:(

Jul-01-18  morfishine: Mbabbe is a beast! I don't know what stops France now. I picked Uruguay over France, a team while looking impressive vs Portugal, seemed a bit gassed and beat up at the end

There's only one solution to the French monster squad: England!

Jul-01-18  optimal play: Although I didn't pick France, I think it's great to see them do so well.

I hope France can go all the way and be the first African team to win the World Cup.

Jul-01-18  morfishine: <optimal play> Thats funny, but a bit of a stretch, try telling that to Pavard, Giroud, Hernandez, Lloris, Varane, Fekir or Griezmann
Jul-01-18  technical draw: Well. Spain gets the early lead. Now let's see how long it will take them to get the olympic freeze.
