Jul-07-18  optimal play: I see I've moved slightly up the table but still well out of contention.

I picked Belgium to go all the way so if they win the next two games I may still finish with a respectable score.

Anyway, my tips for the semi-finals are:

Belgium to beat France
Croatia to beat England

And keep those penalty shootouts coming!

Jul-08-18  thegoodanarchist: < Penguincw: Russia is going home. Oh wait...>

That's officially very funny!

Jul-08-18  technical draw: <Penguincw: Russia is going home. Oh wait..>

Very good. You can have my job when I leave. (and not a minute before!)

Jul-08-18  morfishine: <optimal play> Yes, you can finish with a very respectable score with a Belgium victory. Unfortunately, France will beat Belgium

And then England will beat France after beating Croatia to get to the final

Diademas: I'm genuinely impressed that three persons managed to get all four semi-finalists correct. The chance of getting this by pure luck is 1/256. And given that favorites like Brazil, Spain and Argentina exited its even more extraordinary!

BRAVO!

Jul-08-18  technical draw: <Diademas> . <The chance of getting this by pure luck is 1/256>

Show me the math. It's not as simple as a combination of 32 objects taken 4 at a time.

Jul-08-18  technical draw: Number of combinations (n things taken r at a time) n=32 r=4 =35,960

Diademas: You have to chose the right one from a bracket of four, four times. Its not a question of getting all the combinations right all the way through. None of them did that.

Diademas: The round of 16 was already decided when they made their predictions

(Ps! Still sore from when I ratted you out? 😏)

Jul-08-18  technical draw: Not that simple. In the group section you have to pick two out of four. Pure luck probability is 1/3. Start from there it's 1/2 till the end.
Jul-08-18  technical draw: <Diademas> I was never sore. It was all pure fun for me. Now if you make your predictions after the group section has been decided that's altogether a different calculation.

By the way just to show you I don't take things seriously your user name in Spanish means "extra day" or "a one too many day".

Diademas: <technical draw:> I guess we can agree it is impressive anyhow.

<By the way just to show you I don't take things seriously your user name in Spanish means "extra day" or "a one too many day".> Thank you! I honestly did not know that. In the mid/late 90's I needed a nick for my ICC account (long expired now) and my eyes fell on a box of cigars on my desk with that name. I have since used it to anything related to chess.

Jul-10-18  NakoSonorense: The French have barely broken a sweat up to now and they're in the Semis. That's pretty impressive considering that they've been playing with 10 men all this time (Giroud doesn't count).

Belgium is strong, but I would be surprised if France doesn't go through.

Jul-10-18  Count Wedgemore: <NakoSonorense: (Giroud doesn't count).>

That judgement is a bit harsh, <Nako>! I think Giroud is important to them as a target man and as a supporting player for the others, particularly Griezmann. And he does a good defensive job as well, particularly on defending set-pieces.

Jul-10-18  Keyser Soze: <Giroud doesn't count).>

Hehe I kinda agree. Ribery would be a much better option but had some issues with the coach or something like that and wasn't drafted.

Jul-10-18  Count Wedgemore: <KS> Ribery is 35 yrs old and hasn't played for the French national team for many years. Shows how much you know :)

You were probably thinking of Benzema.

Jul-10-18  Keyser Soze: Lol exactly. My slip.

But hey stop your condescending tone about football knowledge. I'm very ok with that.

What are you? Morfishine brother?

Jul-10-18  Keyser Soze: But is a consesus around here about about Giraud being very discrete. Maybe today he will show up?

Jul-10-18  NakoSonorense: <Count Wedgemore> <That judgement is a bit harsh, <Nako>!>

If you've followed his career at Arsenal, you will not be surprised by the little impact he's had in this WC. How he landed at Chelsea is a mystery to me.

<Keyser Soze><Maybe today he will show up?>

As long as he stays on the pitch, there's a chance. Although he totally flopped on a clear chance in the first half (33rd minute).

France up 1 nothing.

Jul-10-18  Dr Winston OBoogie: <Count Wedgemore: <KS> Ribery is 35 yrs old and hasn't played for the French national team for many years. Shows how much you know :)>

I know right!

<You were probably thinking of Benzema.>

He was probably thinking of Pele, that's how much he knows about football! LOL. #ENGLAND 🏴🏴

Brazil <losing> quarter finalists?? 😂. He's <<<sore like never before!>>>.

"Trying to hide your <pain> hehehehe"

"finan I will troll your arse when your beloved England <loose!>".
