Feb-10-04  dippel: Wow - power play by Botvinnik! An amazing attack just like young Magnus Carlsen from Norway would do it!!
Feb-10-04  Resignation Trap: Yes, a great game, but was it really played? Andy Soltis deleted it from his book The 100 Best Chess Games of the 20th Century, Ranked. It is suspected of being a composed game, one reason being that it didn't appear in any contemporary magazines. Another Adams-Torre ?
Feb-10-04  dippel: I do not know! You can find this game at Chess Lab and in the "Big Database 2004" from ChessBase. But I have found this: "Some other candidates wererejected due to doubts about their authenticity, e.g. theapocryphal Adams-Torre 1920, or Botvinnik-Chekhover," at Chess Café: http://66.102.11.104/search?q=cache...
Feb-11-04  dippel: I have found the same game Botvinnik vs Chekhover at www.academicchess.com. You can find the game under “Brilliancies”: http://216.239.59.104/search?q=cach... where you can find a quote by Botvinnink: "Such games are rare in my tournament play, since, following Capablanca's advice, I always aimed to choose simpler alternatives."
Jul-28-04  Jesuitic Calvinist: I want to believe that this game really happened.
Aug-18-04  kevin86: Early Botvinnik-pure genius!

The sac of rook at f6 started it all.

Aug-18-04  iron maiden: Amazing attack. After 32. Rxf6 I wasn't sure if Botvinnik would have enough material left to win!

offramp: If it's a composition then it's not a very good one.
Nunn says that 24.Nxf7 is a bad move that should lose to 25...Kf8. The most that white can hope for after that is a draw.

cu8sfan: Good morning, xiaolin (-: Which time zone are you in by the way?
Aug-18-04  xiaolin: GMT-i live in england i just piked this name cuz im weird
Aug-18-04  xiaolin: does anyone know how to add kibitzing to a pgn file ?
Aug-18-04  AdrianP: Xiaolin you can add comments to a PGN file between curly brackets i.e. "" / "". Variations are enclosed in normal brackets i.e. "(" and ")".
Aug-18-04  xiaolin: thanks
Aug-18-04  AdrianP: <Xiaolin> In my previous message the chessgames.com parser has taken out the curly brackets - I assume you know what they are...
Aug-18-04  mahmoudkubba: I wonder where is the bad move happened for black?? what bad did black did I mean??
Aug-18-04  mahmoudkubba: Shouldnot black played instead of 2-...e6 , 2-...Nf6 was this a beter play than the other one??
Aug-18-04  Whitehat1963: "Chekhover," what an appropriate name in this game.
Aug-18-04  xiaolin: does anyone know any chess viewer applets like this one to load games in ? ive found one on google called sjkbase but its the only one i can find
Aug-18-04  white pawn: Awesome game? Why didn't Checkhover resign long before the mate? Did he just want to let the kid mate him, or what?
Aug-18-04  Marvol: <white pawn> Looking at the moves, they were around the 40th... maybe black was hoping for white to lose by running out of time before he himself would lose by running out of safe fields for his king ;-). Didn't work, aye?
Aug-18-04  MoonlitKnight: <xiaolin> Try Winboard. It's the one most people use at FICS (www.freechess.org).

Honza Cervenka: <was it really played?> Yes, this game was played in the 16th round of great international tournament Moscow 1935 in which participated also Capablanca, Lasker, Spielmann or Flohr.
Nov-25-04  PinkPanther: <dippel>
You must be kidding me comparing Botvinnik with Carlsen...if anything it should be the other way around.
