Mar-21-06 | | Fezzik: I like these nice, simple, forcing combinations. I also like the deferred gratification of temporarily sacrificing material with the full knowledge that it's more of an investment than a real sacrifice. Maybe Nimzovich was right about businessmen being squeamish about entering combinations which are forced and good. This is just one more great example of the quality of chess that was to be stagnated during the War years. Of course, chess is but a minor casualty of war. |
Mar-21-06 | | blingice: Very easy. If he refused the sacrifice, it is obviously done, and when he does accept the sacrifice, he is still done. |
Mar-21-06 | | Infohunter: Easy to see the winning line, but no less elegant for that. |
Mar-21-06
 | | WannaBe: I saw BxB... |
Mar-21-06 | | chesstoplay: A good week so far... two for two, but both have been basics being reviewed, so maybe not so great after all... |
Mar-21-06 | | Mating Net: Passed Pawns must be pushed.
This is why. |
Mar-21-06 | | ataturk: I think this is still in the realm of a 1200 player.. |
Mar-21-06 | | n30: too easy for tuesday |
Mar-21-06 | | dzechiel: So, does black give up too quickly in the final position? I can see the play continuing 32...Kg7 33 Rxa8 Nc5 34 d8=Q Bxd8 35 Rxd8 Nxb3 36 Rd5 b6 37 a6 Nc5 and it looks like black can exchange off all of white's queen side pawns. Does white have something better here? |
Mar-21-06 | | safar: Yes. All White does is take the knight ifrst, that is, 33. bxa4, and then take the Rook, then queen the pawn and take the Bishop. Black is done. |
Mar-21-06 | | DWINS: <dzechiel>, Black's rook isn't going anywhere. Simply take the knight on move 33 and then the rook next move. |
Mar-21-06 | | dzechiel: <safar> and <DWINS> Of course. It seemed too easy. Thanks. |
Mar-21-06
 | | al wazir: I think 31. bxa4 also wins, but it's far from easy. If 31...Bxe7, then 32. dxe7 Re8 33. Rc7 b6 34. axb6 axb6 35. Kf1 f5 36. Ke2 Kf7 37. Rb7 Rxe7 38. Rxb6 Ra7 39. Rb4. 25...b6 would have held on for black. |
Mar-21-06 | | marcwordsmith: Doesn't 31. Bxf8, followed by d7 and Rc8, also win easily? |
Mar-21-06
 | | al wazir: 31. Bxf8 Kxf8 32. d7 Rd8 33. Rc8 Ke7. |
Mar-21-06 | | coolzadar: Everything centers around the queening of the pawn on d6 |
Mar-21-06 | | marcwordsmith: Thanks, al wazir. |
Mar-21-06 | | Catenaccio: I have to this as failed for me, I did see everything but sacking the black rook on move is definitly wrong. I didn't even see the Knight being threatend. |
Mar-21-06
 | | OhioChessFan: I was proud of myself for finding BxB instantly. Oh well. Wait'll next Monday. |
Mar-21-06 | | jahhaj: Easy once I had considered d7, but it wasn't the first move I looked at. As <Mating Net> said, 'passed pawns must be pushed'. |
Mar-21-06 | | ckr: Solved this one instantly, yep just looked at the board and played Bxf8! Ok, so I blew an easy one.
Then I took a look to see if black could not take the rook and allow the promotion. Kg7 33.bxa4 Kf6 34.Rxa8 Ke6 35.d8=N+ Bxd8 36.Rxd8
White under-promotes and cleans the board.
Mar-21-06 | | Drawnomore: Yes! i found d7! And I like so much Najdorf, I love his chess, wish he was here and now at the best of career! |
Mar-21-06 | | WarmasterKron: About as straight-forward as yesterday. d7 with Rc8 was the first thing I saw. I didn't even notice that the knight was under attack until someone mentioned it. Good thing too, or I'd have taken that. |
Mar-21-06 | | McCool: I got it. Ha ha. That's two in a row, even though that's not saying much. |
Mar-21-06
 | | LIFE Master AJ: A.) I solved this one.
B.) I wonder if Black should resign?
(In one line, the end game is with Pawns all on the same side of the board, these can be VERY hard to win, if you have ever played an ending of this type. I once had a similar ending against Stuart Rachels in an AL State Championship tournament. I was unable to win the game, although I was the exchange up.) Analysis to follow.
