Eggman: Hey, this game is pretty damn cool! This would make a good game of the day, or puzzle of the day, methinks.
Dec-24-15  Abdel Irada: Let's see Basanta claw his way out of this one. :-D

Dec-24-15  RookFile: Black moved a lot of pawns in this game.

Prescient!

However, <Basanta Claws> is hardly an appropriate GOTD pun, considering he lost. Even though Christmas is coming soon.

Hey, chessgames.com, do you know that there are 12 days of Christmas and they <begin> on December 25th? They don't end then.

You have been playing up the Christmas angle recently and I will be disappointed when you stop doing so <during Christmas>!!

Dec-24-15  thegoodanarchist: One more thing - if you ever have to play 12...Kg7 you should prolly just resign instead.
Dec-24-15  morfishine: Pathetic play by Black

Agreed. I actually submitted this game with the title "No Such Thing As Basanta Claws", if I recall correctly, but alas! This isn't the first time one of my titles was rejected in favour of someone else's suggestion, as I lament here: T Southam vs J Cote, 1996.

Domdaniel: < if you ever have to play 12...Kg7 you should prolly just resign instead.> There's nothing inherently wrong with playing ...Kg7.

Except maybe when your opponent has a Bishop on the a1/h8 diagonal.

Hmmm, maybe I should have highlighted that it is move 12, since I don't think I got my point across.

My point is, if you are forced into playing it that early in the game it is usually a bad sign :)

Domdaniel: <thegoodanarchist> Yeah, I got that. But even on the 12th move, there are positions where 12...Kg7 is not a bad move for Black. In this case, it is vital to get off the a2-g8 diagonal, whatever the material cost.
Dec-24-15  morfishine: Right <12...Kg7> was not forced, 12...d6 was playable though Black has a sad position; improvements are found earlier in the opening
