Nov-17-05  pawntificator: I know it's a simul game, but Fischer played pretty poorly in this game. He completely misses 19 Rxd8+, to end the game immediately. I'm disappointed.

Perhaps he was insulted at the level of play he was compelled to face.

I wonder if Old W. Murdock ever went over his score later and realized that Fischer wasn't even trying, not even really focusing on his game, or suspected that Fischer was toying with him.

Does anyone know how many people Fischer played in this Simul, time controls, or anything like that?

Nov-17-05  sneaky pete: <pawntificator> 58 games (+53-0=5). Game is from "A legend on the road", giving "original game score" (by Murdock) as its source. This score must contain errors, as is quite common in the abominable descriptive notation. I can't believe Fischer missed Rxd8+ .. twice in a row (moves 18 en 19).
Nov-18-05  pawntificator: Thanks, sneaky pete.
Nov-18-05  Saruman: Lol I get that good ol' MacGyver feeling now...
Nov-18-05  pawntificator: <Saruman>, the white, what good ol' MacGyver feeling are you referring to? Fixing your marble bishop's broken head with superglue?
Nov-19-05  Saruman: <pawntificator> The character named "Murdock" was the antagonist of MacGyver...
Nov-19-05  RookFile: Folks, Bobby Fischer used to play
5 minute blindfold chess, while drunk, and beat the hell out of strong IM's. Jack Collins related examples from the 1967 US Championship. I guarantee you he did not miss something as simple as Rxd8+, even in a simul.

keypusher: Yes, because Bobby Fischer never, ever, blundered.

Fischer vs E Puto, 1964

Dec-03-14  TheFocus: From a simul in Flint, Michigan on May 16, 1964.

Fischer scored +53=5-0.

Jan-18-16  Pedro Fernandez: Hey <keypusher>, indeed is there that surname? "Pobrecito!".
Jan-18-16  thegoodanarchist: <ookFile: Folks, Bobby Fischer used to play 5 minute blindfold chess, while drunk>

All accounts of Fischer from his contemporaries are that he did not drink. At least, the accounts I've read.

To quote Bent Larsen

<To Bobby, all liquor was quite harmful and he never touched the stuff>

Jan-19-16  Eusebius: This game is ridiculous. Not worth while analyzing.

MissScarlett: Which is why it's highly doubtful that this W.Murdock of Michigan had anything to do with the W.Murdock(s) who played Capa and Lasker decades before.
