 | | Honza Cervenka: This funny game shows that GMs are only humans and not infallible gods. Instead of simply winning 16.Bxf6+ with next 17.Qxg4 Fischer played horrible 16.Ne2?? allowing an immediate winning shot a la Legal 16...Nxe4! 17.Bg3 (17.Bxd8 Bf2+ 18.Kf1 Bh3#) 17...Ng5 etc. But black missed this nice chance playing 16...Bxb2? After that Fischer could win the game with 17.Rf1! Bc3+ (17...Bxa1 18.Qxa1 ) 18.Nxc3 Bxd1 19.Bxf6+ Qxf6 20.Rxf6 Kxf6 21.Nxd1 , but he did not find it and after 17.Rb1 Bc3+ he made last and decisive blunder of the game playing 18.Kf2?? instead of necessary 18.Kf1. This time black took his chance perfectly...:-) |

 | | Eggman: I know this is a simul, but still, can this really be Fischer? Somehow I doubt it. |
Nov-11-03 | | drukenknight: No it cannot be him, these are just Fischer-haters who have concocted the game. He really was the best ever!!! |
Mar-05-05 | | ArturoRivera: poor fischer, he really lost quickly this one, and against Puto, which means gay in spanish, how cool! |
Mar-05-05 | | tud: fischer in vienna in 1964 ... hmmm |
Mar-05-05 | | vonKrolock: <tud> Vienna is the Opening. The place was, i believe, "Cicero" |
Mar-22-05 | | RookFile: I don't see Bobby allowing ...Qe3
mate, rather, resigning. For this
reason, I have my doubts about this
game. |
Mar-22-05 | | WMD: He was Puto in Fischer's hands. |
Mar-22-05 | | Runemaster: <RookFile> 21...Qe3+ is not mate. White can play 22.Kf1, and then 22...Bh3 is mate. So, Fischer resigned one move before he could be checkmated. |
Mar-22-05 | | RookFile: Lol! thank you runemaster. :) |
Nov-19-05 | | Saruman: I don't belive this was Fischer, if it was then he must have been distracted since I spotted 16.Bxf6+ immedietly. |

 | | FSR: A very un-Fischerian game. It's almost inconceivable that a player of his strength would not see, and play, 16.Bxf6+ instead of 16.Ne2?? btw, in the opening I'm surprised that Fischer didn't play 4.Qg4! It's a strong move, particularly since Black's most common response is 4...Qf6? when White wins by force with 5.Nd5!, e.g. I A Horowitz vs NN, 1940 |

 | | GrahamClayton: Erwin Puto was a member of the Western Electric team of the Chicago Industrial League when he defeated Fischer. His win was commemorated by the League by having a diagram placed on the League's official match results form: http://www.chicagochessleague.org/c... |
Jan-03-12 | | Harvestman: What?? To anyone who knows the Vienna Game, playing 4.Qg4 would be automatic. Black has a terrible time. All I can think of is that maybe this wasn't as well known then as it is now. |

All I can think of is that maybe this wasn't as well known then as it is now.> See the note by <FSR> from 1-18-08. This was a simul, obviously not one of Fischer's better games. No big deal. |

 | | Penguincw: A surprising upset! Puto must've been happy (even though it's "EXHIBITION" instead of "CLASSICAL"). |
Jan-03-12 | | chesstyro: a winning record against fischer. an elite club to belong to |

Dec-03-14 | | TheFocus: From a simul in Cicero, Illinois on May 20, 1964.
Fischer scored +44=5-1. |
