Feb-28-08 | | luzhin: Once the Queens come off Topalov is not given a chance. Aronian plays such positions brilliantly. |
|
Feb-28-08 | | Eyal: A resourceful exchange sac by Aronian on move 38, but 39...Qxg2? - allowing White to grab the c6 pawn with a clear advantage, was a bad mistake by Topalov (time trouble?); after 39...Bd6 it's not clear how much compensation White has. |

 | | Open Defence: nice to see Aronian champion the English Opening |
|
Feb-28-08 | | Ybrevo: According to Aronian´s comments just after the game, he considered 37. - f4 to be a blunder in an equal position. Right or not - he is conducting the endgame in a very impressive style. After seeing Aronian´s games for a couple of years now, I think he is one of the best endgame players of our time - combining theory with amazing tactics. |
|
Feb-28-08 | | Eyal: Btw, Aronian could even play 53.Kd4! immediately, because the threat of 53...Bb6 is illusory: 54.Kd5 Bxc5 55.bxc5 b4 56.c6 Rb5+ 57.Kc4 winning. |

Feb-28-08 | | Abejorral: I dont see nothing impressive in this endgame, altought i like Aronian. |
|
Feb-28-08 | | THE pawn: Considering that it was played flawlessy, I think we should call it impressive. |

After 39...Bd6, engines think black is better, but I think Aronian's position after 39...Bd6 is more than OK,
All in all a very beautiful game by Aronian!!
Congrat to Top GM Levon Aronian!! |

Feb-29-08 | | kellmano: This must have been a very depressing ending for Topa to play. His pieces have hardly any activity or potential activity. Guess he couldn't resign due to nominal material parity. |

 | | chancho: The guy was slowly grounded to dust.
This is clearly not the Topa of old.
I actually thought he'd start the second half of this tourney in much stronger fashion. (lost 500 chessbucks on this game) |
|
Feb-29-08 | | Ulhumbrus: Instead of 24...b6, 24...Rfe8 prepares to contest possession of the open e file An alternative to 30 Rc1 is 30 Nb3 getting ready for Nc5 and Ne6 One meaning of 64 Ng5 instead of 64 Nc5 is suggested by the reply 64..Kd8. From c5 the N could go to b7, but ..Rb6 could prevent it, whereas the K supports a N on f7. A second point is that Nf7 threatens Ne5 forking the R and g6 pawn. |

Feb-29-08 | | Davolni: <Chancho> I can't believe you would do something like that!!!!!! bet on Topalov against Aronian??????
Comm'onnnnnnnnn....

I am not a Topalov fan but when compare Topalov against Aronian, Topalov is a bit stronger than Aronian(Ofcourse Levon is a very strong but not strong as Topalov)
I remember when Aronian was a 2400 player at same time Topalov was +2700 |
